I’ve got the flotool oil pan too and my vent kept popping open as well. I fixed that by reaming the hole out a little bit and putting a tire valve stem in place of it (with core removed). No leaks and just twist the cap off when venting

I have the same one with the same issues that I bought for $15 bucks at Advance Auto. Its a POS and pisses me off. When I haul my oil off to the recycling center i have to put it in a heavy duty contractors bag and take brake cleaner and paper towels with me because of the risk of the vent cap popping off and spilling oil everywhere. Too shallow of a catch, too small of a drain catch hole. I forget who makes them, but I have another at my brothers somewhere that has a huge 14" spin off catch and cover with removable plastic screen.

I like the one with the red caps because it seems more durable to me. Plus it holds more oil. That’s a bonus for me because I don’t always remember to empty and recycle.

You can get mesh filters for large bore funnels. If you drill out those 2, small holes in the flotool pan, you can just pop one of those mesh strainers in there to catch the sump plug you inevitably drop 😂

If you don't aim the oil into that little 2 inch hole the oil splatters all over the surface. Why in the world would I want to have to clean up that whole area the oil drains on to? I have used the Lumax for years, Remove the large 8 inch cap, drain the oil and replace the cap. No mess. No Cleanup

Joni English Yes, when I started draining the oil from my car, it hit those raised sections of this drain pan and oil ricocheted right out of the drain pan and all over the floor !!! I would think both of these would splash around with the high top when the oil hits it?
@jasonmichaeljones
Жыл бұрын
the rectangular one does big time. i felt like i needed to tip it upward to minimize splashing - even with that i had a 48" radius of oil splatter everywhere around the pan including all over my hands and forearms and all down all sides of the pan. The small holes from the top plate to the inner compartment are also panic inducingly small as it just about overflowed as the oil was draining. Basically, the pan could barely handle the flow from a straight 6 3 liter gas engine - it is not like i was using it for some industrial engine. Overall - i would rate it about a 2 out of 10 as far as design goes. i wish i had just used a traditional pail.
