Something people need to consider when asking these questions is that when the various gundam series got released, they weren't always keeping Mobile Suit specs in mind to be appropriate for the One Year War era. Case in point: The Gelgoog Jaeger had ridiculous specs that even surpassed the high mobility type, and dozens of mobile suits that wouldn't be fielded until the Gryps Conflict or even the Neo Zeon War, which is just stupid altogether. That said, on paper, the GMs technically already surpassed the Gundam because they had the same thrust power, but were lighter in weight.

Simply put, Nemo out performs both GMII and Hizack custom. As for Barzam, it was suppose to be Titan's replacment for all of their grunt suit. I have a couple: 1. What was the most underrated Mobile Suit during and even after the One Year War? From both Zeon and EFF. Just for good measure, even an overrated MS. 2. How much would the final battle of A Boaque have changed if Amuro had gotten the RX-78NT1 Gundam ALEX earlier as planned by the EFF or if Amuro had the time and chance to upgrade the RX-78-2 Gundam to match his skills and abilities at the time? 3. Do you believe that Amuro and Char were holding back their skills in Zeta? I know Amuro is a bit rusty but have been training new recruits in MS combat, but Char? 4. You think the beam weapons during Victory and Crossbone Gundam are far to powerful than anyone expects it to be that it damages the Gundarium/Luna Titanium armor of the Mobile Suits easily since they haven't updated the armor resistance or is it that they are using the alpha version of Gundarium for mass-production?
@lokix19azxc13

4) The later beam weapons might not be more power in terms of output, but due to smaller and more powerful reactor, they are able to utilize more efficient weapons like VSBR whom is able to penetrate beam shield and there are beam weapons that have the capability to overwhelm the I-field (Crossbone gundam Ghost), in which would render the Gundarium alpha useless.
@marcosdheleno
4 жыл бұрын
1) the Gyan, the goulf could be here, but since it did get some special custom builds, we cant really call it underrated. 2)possibly not much, sure, he would get a massive upgrade in both reaction time and speed, but at the end of the day, the Gundam's biggest contribution(in that battle) was taking out the Zeong. and because he wouldnt have that much time to fine tune it, nor get used to it, he would mostly do the same(or, he might've even underperformed slightly). 3)i dont think they were holding back, specially char. amuro was jadded, he had no desire to fight, and only did so because he felt there was no other way. if anything, there wasnt really a need to go "all out" for him. 4)beam weapon technology is weird in late UC. visually it acts virtually the same, throughout the multiple series, with only that weird "magic coating" that made the older model useless in mid zeta to actually change something. its very possible that, those weapons are more powerful, but not by a massive margin, if anything, only the beam magnum from unicorn and the VSBR could be described as trully more powerfull.

@6:40 whoa whoa. The RGM-79N was meant for mass production, it did enter limited production. and though its a percussor to the RGM-79Q, at the end of 0083 during the ending credits, with scenes of the titans forming, several RMG-79N's in titan colors are seen being unloaded. later during the Gryps conflict the AEUG used both RGM-79Ns and RGM-79Qs to fill gaps of having access to mass production of new suits.

I think another thing to keep in mind during these comparisons are armor materials. The GM II and GM Custom have Titanium alloy ceramic composite armor as opposed to the Gundam's Luna Titanium alloy. I know I doesn't matter as much when beam weapons are the main weapon used on the battlefield, but against enemies using solid-ammo weapons, it makes a big difference.

Apparently the GM ground type from 08th MS Team actually has Luna Titanium alloy armor, but that was a limited production unit and couldn't be used in space

i think there are variants of the GMII. which created such a great dissonance with listed specs and those that are on the field. first is the upgraded GM, during Stardust most GM type c/kai got destroyed. so instead of mothballing the surplus GM from the OYW, they rapidly pushed for retrofit plan and Anaheim agreed for some concessions. Anaheim probably submitted the GMII plan before stardust, these are built from the ground up and are the true GM II spec wise. thus there was 2 models number. that's why at the start of zeta gundam the GMII pilot said it was an antique, he knew his machine was an upgraded GM. monocoque designs mean that whatever tech has to fit the shell, the upgrades for the GM to GMII specs meant that some corners were probably cut to use the abundant GM units. probably using lower spec parts to use the same mountings without having the machine slowly shake itself apart from rated output of true GMII. the overall skills of the pilots also suffered due to stardust, since it was their main pilots attending that "parade" at solomon/konpeito. which meant most OYW veterans died and the remaining ones that appeared in Zeta are the reserves. those that didnt die at konpeito parade most likely joined the titans. so the general federation pilot skill pool diminished even further.

Finally. Question to anyone who'll answer though. In the modern day UC gundam wouldn't the OG RX-78-2 amount to the highest quality GM(Jesta, Jegan, you get it)? If even that?
@HeadCannonPrime

Yes. The RX-78-2 wasn't really all that special OTHER than the armoring, which was better than anything for most of the war because it was considered too expensive and dropped for the production models (and the core block system).

I see the GMII as the point when the AVERAGE mass produced MS caught up to the Gundam in performance. Iirc the Gelgoog was considered on par with the RX-78-2. The GM Custom and Quel were certainly better but they were expensive and meant for smaller units of ace pilots. The Federation has a pretty big military from what I've seen and they certainly need a lot of units just simply to cover the amount of territory the Federation has to cover and even with their economy they probably can't afford to mass equip everyone with GM Customs, add to that the likely military budget cuts at the wind down of the OYW and I'd imagine large numbers of classic GMs of various forms were still serving up to Gryps almost.

Well that and they pretty much jumped an unprepared garrison with also mostly outdated machines that had no time to organize a defense. The element of surprise has historically caused better equipped and trained forces to lose badly afterall. Wich in turn meant that one superior MS wiped the floor with allmost all old Zeon MS that entered the base after they lost the element of surprise and that the remaining attackers where wiped out quickly as soon as an organized force with modern equipment entered the fray

Serious question, or as series as one can be when discussing the lore of a franchise revolving around giant mechs and people making massive evolutionary leaps over the course of two or three generations. Are there any sources that delve into groups akin to The Kurds in MSG? Nomadic groups, stuff along that line. Do they exist? Are they involved in the conflicts? Do they get support like Mobile Suits? It doesn't have to be UC if that helps you or anyone who sees this and cares to tell me some sort of an amswer. If you answer, then thank you. If not, then I still thank you because I love your videos, especially the Gundam Lore as you bring to light so many things that I have never even heard of.

The Galbaldy Alpha had a few early production models fielded at A Baoa Qu with a single squadron being built. And most of them were built from a mix of Gyan and Gelgoog parts. With a few combat tests being during the end days of the war. The designs were taken after the Federation's one-year war and refined into the Galbaldy Beta and deployed as a stop-gap messure until newer machines could be made.

I'd say the GM-Kai it's the blue and cream colored GMs that had defended Torrington during the raid that stole the GP-02. Mass produced, good pilot compatibility, and sadly, it's the reason why the Federation had to resort to the upgraded GM-2 during the Gripes War. All the mainline GM kai units were lost in the GP-02 attack on Solomon. All retired GMs from the OYW were pulled from salvages and quickly Frankensteined with whatever compatible parts from the Kai ver. were left in the production floor to create the GM 2. Sorry I may seem like head cannon but that's how I saw it.

I want to mention something from an old game I played: Gundam vs Zeta Gundam (before it's status as canon is immediately written off; The game simply follows the story of the OYW and Gryps War, with chances to change the timeline and get multiple outcomes, structured around the 2v2 gameplay that can still be seen in newer "Gundam VS" games) The Gundam MKII was designed with the new movable frame concept... but it was specifically mentioned that it in the game's museum that with all these advancements it merely equaled the RX-78's performance. This might have just been the game's way of keeping the OYW suits from being irrelevant fighting later models, but if ut's true the GM Quel was as likely phased out for the GM II for maintenance and cost reasons. With that said, the Gelgoog was also mentioned in the game as effectively being equal in performance to the RX-78 as well, so finding MS that hold their own against it would also mean it could hold it's own against the RX-78... assuming the game can even be taken as canon.

I'd like to think that a GM Sniper II could sortie into battle with a sniper rifle and keep a machine gun stored in its large shield for when enemies get into combat range. Thats how I would customize my GM Sniper II if I was lucky enough to be given one. Or even better, I'd slap some hardpoints on it to make it like the Sniper Custom! Problem solved!

simply put you have to think of it like the real world most logical nations make something with the purpose of having a working shelf life. GMs for the most part had as this video and others have shown a good 7-8 year run do to ease of variation. this versatility also grants alot of good resource managment meaning money saved and faster production in factories. Zeon did the the wrong thing by making completly diffrent production lines in MS hence part of the reason they lost the war. it wasnt till the final months they launched the UMP (United Mantience Plan) to streamline MS for production. the Jegans Frame is the reason the federation was finally able to spread out cause all the machines post its mass production incoperate a large amount of the Jegans parts into them meaning easy of production maintence and cheap.

I've read that the gm II was upgraded directly from the classic gm so i think the gm quel was an exclusive mass produced ms for the titans so it may be a lot better than de gm II because it was made to be standard for ace pilots. If I'm not mistaken the gm II would be the best the regular federation forces could do with the limited budget they had because of the titans. PD: I don't know if i expressed myself clearly, english is not my mother language.

Isn't a big part of what made the Gundam so effective the Luna Titanium armor? The GM II and GM Quel had titanium/ceramic armor. Those got taken out by machineguns while anything with Luna T would tank machinegun hits over and over. So even if the reactor and thruster performance was the same the durability wasn't.

Haha I wanted to say GM Sniper 2 for Range and to fly away quickley in one direction. It's Space so if you are running you do not need a bunch of directional thrusters to weigh you down as you arent trying to dodge but outrun. Another thing is that the gundam brought up the fact it had a learning computer that gathered technical data so it also got even easier to pilot throughout the show. With that said amuro also became such a good pilot he was still pushing the system well beyond its limits. It would be safe to assume most federation machines (atleast ace type, along with the gm early types) would have some sort of learning computer to gather technical data as well

I enjoyed seeing the limited production mobile suits as possible answers before seeing the first"true" mass produced MS that was superior. @Kakarot197 the Jesta is said to have performance equal to a gundam type mobile suit, not directly of course, but its implied that the suits were designed to escort the unicorn models and assist them, keeping any enemy that was beneath the unicorns at bay to free up the unicorn models to concentrate on killing newtypes. the issue arises when you consider that to act as an escort for a unicorn type gundam frame, you have to be capable of at the very least matching a gundam in performance: my question then is exactly what kind of gundam types performance level are we talking about here?

The GM Quel was in fact mass produced after 0083, but since it was primarily used by Titans, the regular forces needed an upgrade and the GM Type C was not it. So the GM II was made by refurbishing whatever vanilla GMs the feds had laying around at the time as another stopgap measure of sorts. They were not meant to surpass the gundam in any way and was just a cheap solution for a lot of the regular forces to be able keep up with the titans.
@macrossMX
4 жыл бұрын
I guess the GM Quel could fit the definition of "mass produces" as it is the workhorse of the Titans until the GM II entered service. Also even earlier than the GM Quel and GM II would be the GM Kai (type-C) in 0083 but actually saw service during the final days of the OYW fighting in A Baoa Qu's E field. While the Kai has slightly less generator output over the Gundam (1250kw to the Gundam's 1380kw) , it has superior thrust (57480kg to the Gundam's 55480kg) and being lighter as well (base weight of 41.2t to the Gundam's 43.4t) which probably evens out the reduced energy output. So I guess from the final days of the OYW onwards, the moment the Federation completely outfitted their forces with the GM Kai is the moment the Federation has a mass produced Gundam that surpassed The Gundam. But I guess it still stands that the GM II completely surpasses the Gundam as the GM II does have superior stalls across the board. but the GM Kai is the mobile suit that allow the Federation to reach performance parity with the Gundam.

Its like comparing the F-14 and F-16 to any modern fighter jet a decade later. Their an antique, both extremely impressive antiques but in any modern sortie they'd be completely outclassed not even going into the F22 or F35. And that's the RX-78 its a mobile suit with out of date thrusters, limited field of vision, armor that while it became the standard for UC MS it was still extremely suscepitble to the increasingly powerful beam weapons.
@mechataku

i think one of the other big factors that made the Gundam so powerful was it's learning computer. my memory of the early tech is a little shaky, but if memory serves, weren't the GMs originally meant to be mass productions of the gundam just with easier to manufacture/procure parts? so no core block system, and no learning computer. gundam particularly being a testbed for a lot of federation technology means it's absolutely not surprising to hear that it got outclassed by other fed MS extremely quickly. heck, even looking at side stories, there were several other gundam type suits (looking at you thunderbolt) that were fairly effective testbeds that outstripped grandpa. long story short, federation wasn't exactly sleeping on the data they got from the gundam, and very quickly developed a lot of mass production models with that information. and though the federation was producing quite a few specialty suits, they were also very good at putting that data into their mass production models in order to outcompete the large variety of specialty suits that zeon kept trying to field.
