The manual focus tip using AF in the Lumix app was SUPER useful! Thanks mate []-)

Thanks I should definitely practice what I preach and use it more I found I used it a lot with my Sony cameras everyone goes on about how good there af is but don’t tell you that a large amount of there lenses suffer from focus breathing making the face af not hugely useable due to all the pulsing and hunting going on in the background.

I've had the camera (s5) for about 6 months to use for vlogging and currently using -1 for speed and -4 for sensitivity with face tracking which I find at the moment is the sweet spot for me. Picture profile I tend to use either vlog with the paid gamut lut which is really nice or the CineD2 profile. I find if you want to do product showcase stuff Area with face tracking works fairly well although I tend to stick to just face tracking for my needs.

Thanks for sharing your settings. I actually purchased the gamut lut yesterday grading is 100% a weak spot. But I find it so much easier than slog hardly any adjustments needed after apply the gamut lut. I will try your showcase setting. More why I'm keeping the Sony is more for demos when Im not in shot generally as an overhead cam. The S5 to be honest is fine for that but as I generally don't monitor it I know the Sony is a lot less likely to hunt about.

Hey!! Thanks for the video. I have been looking for an AC adapter for the S5 and I have not been able to find any. What's your setup like? Do you have an ac adapter + capture card? Or do you just plug it in through USB or something? Any help would be immensely appreciated!

Just usb at the moment a dummy battery is on my shopping list I left the camera on by accident the other day it was on for two days plugged into a capture card before I noticed 😂 so handles heat well

@@thefullsetup Ohhh So you just charge it through usb AND use a capture card?

Maybe the 'sensitivity' slider should be inversed and named 'stickyness' or so.

What do you suggest to keep the whole area in focus, like for Vlogging out in nature where you would want myself and the background clear. not sure if i am making sense ??
@thefullsetup

Do you mean no blur background/bokeh you need to be shooting at a high aperture for that. As long as your keeping yourself roughly the same distance from the camera these settings have been fine for my limited tests. Id just use these as base and adjust from there I would start with turning the sensitivity up first before af drive speed.

I always had Sony cameras and i am about to buy a Panasonic S model. I am really disappointed at the Sony a7iv and want 10bit colors so i think ill go with the Panasonic S1 but i am not sure yet. I like bigger body and full HDMI but the S5 is also an option. From my understanding apart from the physical features they are almost the same

I wasnt massively impressed with the IV either and due to wanting a flip screen and having a lower budget it left me with the a7c probably used but loved as the only option. Yes it's a great camera but when spending that money I wanted something a bit bigger with more dials. And not having 4k 60 even if it is with an apsc crop I just couldn't see the point in upgrading to full frame over my current Sony's + the extra cost of full frame lenses. Like I said still keeping my zv-e10 for now as I do like there af for when I'm doing product showcases that aren't b roll based. And then if I get a iv in a year or two can use my apsc lenses for and 4k 60 work then just get a nice prime for talking heads. As for the hdmi yes would of loved to of seen full sized or at least mini. But it does feel much more solid that Sony's micro hdmi. Hard to explain i just feel I can trust it more when I plug it in. I'm getting a cage for it anyway so I'm going to get the small rig hdmi adaptor which coverts it to full size 😁

@@thefullsetup The S5 is probably better for most since its more compact, but i want to rig it out anyways with v mount etc. so a bigger body is nice. I hope Panasonic releases a S6 for 2022 with a new AF System

Hi, for someone starting from scratch looking for a hybrid camera (mostly travel videos, some vlogs and photography). I am looking into this S5 (first gen), Sony A7C or Canon R8. Any suggestions?

Personally I would go with a7c and ended up selling the s5 not long after purchasing for video features it’s amazing but the mk1 autofocus is just not up to scratch compared to canon and Sony. If your just starting out I think you would love the a7c also if you haven’t already seen it. Check out Sonys gyro stabilisation it’s extra work in post but you get gimbal like movement. My vlogging setup at the moment is the zv-e10 and 11mm f1.8.

Can they probably dedicate Standard profile in doing AF, so you can go use V-LOG and not worry about contrast AF. Not sure if the processor can handle it.

That was very good advice and convincing results as well in this video! I have a GH5 II which to record long video podcasts, the software and AF is very similar to your S5, thanks for sharing your settings I'll try that soon and report the results 😃

One of many great S5 videos! Did you have the chance to experiment more? What settings would you use when using a gimbal and following people walking? I use the Lumix S 24mm, 4K 50p - which gives me roughly 35mm with the crop. 50p, because they say that the auto focus works better at higher frame rates. I keep the speed at -1 but I am never sure about the sensitivity.

Thanks for sharing this, it's a good resource of what works for different situations. I own the GH4, G9, and S5, and have been frustrated with the complexity of the autofocus options. When I'm on a job site trying to meet a deadline, it is hard to remember all of the settings and when to use them. This helps to simplify and explain the options better (especially the speed and sensitivity settings) so that I can retain the knowledge and have it ready when the situation calls for it. I need to experiment more on my own to also help retention.
