Stellan Skarsgard is always an amazing actor as well, and he was damn good good in this performance. Emily Watson was also incredible. Overall this limited series was one of HBO's best ever. It was hard to watch at times for the sheer horror of how horrible this accident was and how much it cost. Chernobal essentially bankrupted the Soviet Union. This series did a great job on showing how people dealt with the horror of it all as it unfolded.

And honestly, more terrifying than any horror film I've seen in recent memory. Not just because this event actually happened, but the very nature of radiation and what severe doses like those suffered by the plant workers and the firefighters, does to the human body. They wouldn't even show Akimov in the HBO series because his face and body was so badly burnt and disfigured, even the woman scientist in the series tells Legasov that "his face was gone".
