You have to keep in mind that at a lot of venues (and basically all regional events) there aren't good screens for the arena viewers to see the close camera angles you can see from home. They aren't hearing the commentators and may not be seeing any replays. Some of the audience are barely making out what is going on, and they see that suddenly the ref has stepped in and stopped the fight. So you have to cut them a bit of slack for not immediately seeing what we see on close-up, slow motion replays.

Im curious what does his course entail?
@TwoBitty
2 жыл бұрын
@@dun0790 I'm a year late, but its a 2-3 day course where you have to spar, show proper techniques, and understand the rulebook to a T. Then for an exam you have to referee several sparring matches where the fighters WILL preform illegal moves and do attacks that are tough calls. If you miss something or need work they will train you and teach you. However in the exams a single mistake can cause failure. This is because passing the COMMAND course is basically a license to referee, if you miss a call, you aren't ready. A missed call is like not knowing or remembering which is the break pedal on a car. You're going to get someone killed or maimed.

I'll always respect Marc Godard. Sadly, I can't remember which fight it was but here's what happened : Fighter A's back was against the cage, while Fighter B was trying to take him to the ground. Fighter A grabbed the fence, and in the process he ended on top of Fighter B. All because he grabbed the fence. Marc Godard stepped in immediately and told Fighter A that the position he had gained was illegal. Godard stood them up again and resumed the action. Quick thinking, was smooth and was one of the best call Godard could have made. Can anyone remember what fight it was?

@Arca Menel dunno the fight, but he needs to be on this list. Between "Coach your fighter, not me!", noticing that Gustafson poked Texiera in the eye, and watching in horror as Steve Percival let Magny & Lumbard go at it too long - Goddard is an amazing ref.

Can't believe that I'm replying to a 3yr old comment...but I remember the fight lol... it's Jacare vs Romero - round 2, Yoel grabbed the fence, defending the takedown, ended up on top and Goddard stood them up... remember it because I'm a huge fan of both fighters 😁

Big John was the best. He had the best timing to stop the fight and know when not to stop it.
