I have called him a poor man's Iniesta, and if he keeps improving, he may not be THAT poor of a poor man's Iniesta. Still a very long, long way to go, but his play style at least is very similar. The ball just sticks to his feet, especially in tight spaces. He's been excellent in these past few matches

I mean, for all the flack Berhalter gets, I think at least some credit should be given to the coach when you see these types of smart but tough displays, especially from such a young team. I think Berhalter knows who his young leaders on the team are, and he lets them lead, which is a good approach to have in my view
@MarkSutphin

It could be taught or practiced, but more likely its instinct, I've seen this in my playing days
@RDSports5
2 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Canaday To me, I'm somewhere in the middle with Berhalter. Is he a good coach, time will tell, but I definitely don't get why people rag on the guy as much as they do considering Bruce Arena wasn't a better coach, at least philosophically, and neither was Bob Bradley. Klinsmann I thought had his moments, but not without imperfection and 'his guys' either. Bottom line, unless we're talking about a handful of Premier League and La Liga managers, most are about as good as the talent they have available to them, I really believe that. If Berhalter gets this young roster past the Group Stage of the WC, regardless of how tough the group is, that'll be an accomplishment (especially if we fall into the Group of Death again). And then if you win a game after that as the boys did back in 02', then are people really going to rag on the guy then... How does that make any sense for a country that is still just building up its talent pool and starting to send its players overseas. This is a process, and it takes time, which unfortunately too many people seem to forget these days
@RDSports5
2 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Canaday I hear ya on the talent being strong, but you gotta believe it'll keep improving as soccer becomes more and more popular here in the States. In terms of hanging onto certain vets, I get that he kept guys like Zardes for too long, and I really don't know why Roldan is on the bench, but by the same token, his faith in Arriola paid off this weekend, he's a good vet to keep on this roster of young guys. Also, people had all but given up on Acosta a little while ago, and then he started to really turn a corner with the national team, and made himself more valuable to have on the bench as well. Again, I get some of the questionable moves, but I don't see anyone ever giving the guy credit when things go well. All I read and hear is bash bash and then bash the dude some more
@RDSports5
2 жыл бұрын
@Joseph Canaday Yeah, we'll see how it goes. I'm looking forward to seeing some more of the youngsters tomorrow against Costa Rica, and then the WC Draw is on Friday. We'll see man.. I just heard good news on McKennie being back with Juve quicker than expected--late April, so that was cool to see. If we can have that midfield be set by November with Pulisic, Reyna, McKennie, and Adams, the back line is playing well, keeper is okay (I still like Turner over Steffen there), and up front with maybe Weah and Ferreira, that's a pretty damn tough squad to beat

Proud of pulisic. He really expresses character that the USMNT lack a lot of the time. A lot of people think being confrontational is not a good trait for a captain, but I beg to differ. They have a really young squad and a lot of teams see them as push overs due to their lack of experience, and pulisic was having none of it. Watching your captain let themselves be pushed would be demotivating for the team. If only the USMNT showed character like this in 2018. We will go far in this years world cup tho! 🇺🇸
