Sanjay, I truly hope that you feel how tremendous you have been to the musician, producer, artist community. You put in so much work into helping us, spending your hard earned money on so many things just to give us reviews and insight to spend our money more wisely and intelligently based on our own music goals. What excellent selections! So often these round-ups are pretty random, but your comparisons here are all, it seems to me, the particular mics that a smart buyer would want to look at (well, I might have considered the Samson G-Track Pro as well - and some people, NOT me, would want to see the Elgato Wave, which has been praised too much already - but you can only do so many). Fantastic job -- thanks for doing this.
@jcchaconjr

Great comparison! Since the Shure MV7 was included, it might have been a little more interesting to have the Yeti Pro go up against it, since they retail for the same price. Given that it also has XLR capability, it would have been interesting to see if it has anything else to earn it the “Pro” moniker.
@SanjayC
3 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea. I should compare them both. But honestly, the classic sound of the SM7B is definitely there in the MV7. I doubt the Yeti Pro would beat it
@jcchaconjr

@@SanjayC Gotcha - I think that the biggest factor would be whether the hefty increase in price from the USB version merits its “Pro” designation. A $120 premium seems like a lot just for an XLR input if all other things are equal between the two models.

First, nice song; I liked it! Second, I definitely preferred mic 2 in the blind test, so I was pleasantly surprised at the reveal. My daily mic is the Shure SM7B - going into an Elgato Wave XLR to give it a gain boost and modern USB mic perks. I guess it stands to reason that I'd prefer the Shure MV7 in a blind test. At any rate, great video; I'm glad I found you. Subscribed. BTW, one of the most important features most of us look for in a mic is background sound rejection - especially HVAC noise. Mic reviewers have treated rooms or ideal environments that many of us don't have. It would be SUPER helpful if you could run a fan or something in the room and test how each mic picks that sound up or rejects it.

*Commenting on the blind test before I proceed* 1: Good, not too much background noise, sounds the most natural by far. 2: "Congested", but seems to pick up the least background noise of them all. 3: Not too much background noise and the most analytic one - upper end sounds slightly more present than #1. 4, 5 and 6 sound a teeny weeny bit nasal like #2 again, and while 7 is actually okay, there's an annoying hiss in the background.

I'm a musician and I use USB mic's for the convenience they offer. For online lessons, recording practice, making quick recordings, and especially these days online Zoom discussions. I use an AT2020 that I've had for over ten years now. Now that we're in lock down times I have music workplaces in two rooms so want a 2nd USB mic so I can setup it up and leave it alway at the ready. I would prefer a stereo mic for recording piano and one I can mount to one of the desk boom stands. I was hoping for some samples of recording instrument(s) and not just vocals, maybe another time. Of the mic's you tested they were all pretty close except #6 the second the sample started the sound was like the mic was inside bottle, a definite no way. The only other mic that sound was okay but to me a bit off was number 3.

Thank you for posting.. I’m not really interested in USB mics... though it’s interesting. I have a Shure 58 and I will be upgrading at some point. Have been planning on Shure SM7B. Mostly for voice over work, speaking and who knows, maybe some singing with effects.. I know it power hungry. I think I saw your video comparing the new Shure USB to the SM7B... so I will have to check that out again. For me since I now have the Roland VT-4 (very cool live effects for voice) I’ll need to have XLR output native on a mic.. though if this newer Shure is good and perhaps easy to use in USB form as well as XLR depending upon my needs, it could be an option. But I’ll trip over to your other mic reviews for XLR before I buy. For people starting out? I think a USB or like this Shure USB/XLR would be a great choice.. work without the need of a interface for a year or two, and if you want to move to a live effects board and not put a strain on your computer by using a Roland VT-4 or other interface, it seems like a no brained.. honestly all of these USB mics sound great for starting off. If someone is starting out? Just get a USB mic to start something... I already have Shure and Sennhiezer mics so I have no need.. well the Shure USB 7B copy is interesting... perhaps it would be a good choice instead of the SM7B for me? Who knows....

No love for any Samson gear? The G-track pro is a significant leap from its predecessor, and the Go Mic is surprisingly not bad for its tiny form factor. Nice job, you should mention that the Icon also comes in xlr version. It is a great mic for voice and streaming but it doubles as a decent mic for other things. .. and no I don’t work for them.haha. Just a fan. I also get why people choose mics that color the sound. Earthworks gives you accurate when you want it.

Hello I noticed you mentioned to leave the reason why we’re looking at USB Mics. I’m a digital artist and I work off of an iPad Pro M1 chip but I also like recording music and realized I can record music off my iPad as well considering how expensive laptops can be and also how powerful iPads are nowadays I’m looking to use a USB mic to record with my iPad on cubasis. The type of music I’ll be recording will be rap lyrics and singing over a beat pretty much and I’m considering the shure mv7 but I’m extremely indecisive considering I’m on a budget but thinking of investing in myself by getting that Mic. Also I’m a delivery driver for a weed company so I’m on the road a lot and can record portably so that’s another reason as well. what do you recommend for someone in my position that’s willing to spend 200+ for the MV7is it worth it? Thank you so much all your videos have been extremely helpful so far hope to hear from you! Greetings from Cali 🙏🏽 🌴☀️🌴

Sanjay you are amazing... thanks once more for your reviews. As you ask to tell you why to look for an USB mic. My decision is due that is basically for my wife's youtube new channel.. but I would like to be able to do some music with it as well (basically singing I'm a terrible singer..LOL).. So I wanted something easy to install and use, even for my non tech wife, keeping a decent voice quality recordings for a low budget, because I don't know how long she will be happy doing videos, so I was thinking on having a second use for it as a musician... I also save the audio box that is another item on the desk... and more wiring around. So that's why I look for an USB mic. Probably the Blue Yeti as it has bidirectional option and for face to face podcasting is very useful. Thanks again for your great videos

I think any one of the mics with a wide frequency may be nice - condenser preferred. So either the Mackie ($99) or Blue Yeti would be great.

I want to do voice over. I want to record my poetry & Singing professionally. In which I get high quality. But in my poetry some lines will go in high tone and some lines will go in emotional low tone. Suggest me a good mic, headphone and audio interface.

I think the PreSonus Revelator is a good mic for you if you record to a computer. And I suggest using the compressor to fix the high and low (I'm assuming loud and soft) tones.

On the go with a zoom H5..I can capture stereo and use MV7 via XLRto narrate in multi-track mode . (I have other XLR mics that I’d prefer to not carry around). Then on the same trip, if I want to Vlog/podcast without doing to much set up. I can just plug in the USB, fire up the phone A/V apps and grab some quick thoughts/scenes without needing to fly audio tracks in from an SD card, without having to power up the H5, without having to connect a lightning cable to a lightning adapter to a Focusrite etc, etc. This appears to be quick in one instance of my needs and versatile in other scenes.

The yeti can capture in stereo but not also give me a separate narration track.

Hello Sanjay! Love your content. Could you please cover the AKG Lyra USB mike? Been considering it vs. the Mackie EM

@@SanjayC just a quick question, is it okay to use the audio interface as a tool for teaching online classes and not just for recording? Thanks in advance.

I also agree with you that the mackie sounds better on your vocals, and your video just goes to show us all that we dont have to spend a lot of money just for a branded mic to sound good, nice video
