After a really terrible car accident in 2018 I've had horrible hip, leg, and lower back pain. My Drs at the VA gave me a Serola SI belt but I was wearing it wrong this entire time. I was wearing it too high and it didn't provide me any relief at all. After watching this video I found my belt and put it on correctly for the first time and it's been such a relief!! Thank you so much for this video. I hope that others who have similar issues find it and get the relief they need as well.

I also had SI joint pain (piriformes pain) for more than 20 years. I tried everything chiro, acupuncture, massage, cryology, compression, tape, on and on. I was even diagnosed with a herniated disc by a radiologist from MRI. Ten years later at Johns Hopkins showed the old MRI and had a new MRI and was told I didn’t have a herniated disc then and still do not now. They prescribed 3 months of PT. In less than 3 months the chronic pain went away and never came back. However, later the other hip hurt which I’m dealing with now. These videos have connected all the dots after all these years. I was doing a lot of lunges with a personal trainer but I’m going to refer my trainer to these videos and quit doing lunges. I also plan to get orthotics, the SI belt and do the exercises. Thank you so much for great explanations and information.

So, I watched your video a couple of months ago after doing some research into my low back pain problem. I was pretty sure my pain was coming from my SI joint but I didn't want to go out and buy an SI belt until I knew for sure. A generous person from a local freecycle group gave me her old SI belt. I felt instant relief when I put it on. I wore it until I could order myself a new one and now I'm going to pass this one on to someone else. I wear mine to bed every night and there is no more problem with pain waking me up. I'll probably have to wear it for a long time. I'm pretty sure I pulled it during one of my P90X yoga stretch sessions. I've switched to different exercises since then. You explain everything so well and your manner is very calming. Thanks so much for providing this content for us.

Doc your “WOW” is spot on. I’ve been suffering from Sac instability for several years and never diagnosed correctly till now. I have to be honest I’ve tried several of the many simple gimmicks out there and became completely discouraged. I accidentally came upon your video while searching for something else lucky for me. However after watching it your honesty about the chiropractic quick relief and how it may not be a good thing for this type pain along with your excellent explanation of the anatomy according to this condition motivated me to at least check it out. I really didn’t want a repeat of purchasing something that didn’t work but had an idea come upon me. Taking a closer look at that belt I noticed it to be made almost identical to what’s called a ‘Belly Band Holster’ which is basically the same type belt with a holster sewed into it . I’ve found this holster to be an ideal way to conceal carry and have used it for years. I took the Velcro belt and put it on as you instructed and yes “WOW” I couldn’t believe the immediate effect it had on me in relieving a major portion of that pain. I immediately ordered a Sacroiliac Belt and wore my Belly Holster belt during the few days it took for my Sac belt to arrive. I can’t thank you enough Dr. Petersen for this video and your professional advice. The crazy thing here is all those years dealing with that pain at the same time wearing a belly band holster belt that could have provided me with the relief I’ve been craving. I can only laugh at myself but it makes for a good story during social hour.

Update: Have been wearing it for 3 mos, 2 weeks wasn't enough....I don't normally wear it at night. My problem was caused by a fall where I landed on my right hip, HARD. It is now much less rounded looking than the left because it's pushed out of place. That being said, I've been wearing the belt for 3 mos, have lost weight and have been doing exercises for the SI Joint and I feel decidedly better with much less pain...I'll continue this regime for another 3 mos before I update again.

4 1/2 months after falling fracturing the femoral neck and having a semi hip replacement on the left hip my left and infrequently my right SI joint hurt as did my lower back about 3 inches higher. Many of the exercises and stretches assigned me by my physical therapist would also cause this pain and I still walked with a slight hip drop to the left. With my latest evaluation I was put in a Serola SI belt, instant relief and much improved walking. My PT now believes that when I fell I may have injured additional areas that don't show on an xray. Because I initially had postural limitations for 2 months tendons and muscles tightened and shortened but apparently the ligaments around the SI actually loosened. I also have a pronating right ankle that I hope to correct. I think my exercises are going to now better help my range of motion and flexion in my hip as I wear the belt.

Thanks for the video doc! I feel like im pretty lucky i have only had this condition that i know of for about a month. I assumed i had a herniated disc because my Dad and Grandpa both have had them in the past. But i didnt feel extreme pain when i did the straight leg test. Also my other leg was starting to hurt but not to the extent that the one was hurting. I did have sciatica though im assuming from piriformus syndrome. I ended up stymbling on to a web site that talked about Si joint pain and i thought it sounded like what i had so i started watching your videos to learn more about it, thats when i decided i needed a belt. I ordered one from Amazon but it took 3 days to get here. In the mean time i made a makeshift trochanteric belt using a shirt for padding. It was great. The first night laying down i was pain free after wearing it all day. It was even better once i got the real belt. Its been about 8 days and i feel pretty good. The first time i ever had low back pain was around 2012 and every so often my back "goes out". Could this have been the problem the whole time?

I had pain in that region for many years. I did physical therapy for it but the relief was only temporary and sometimes after I did stretch a lot the pain came on strong in the next few days. I kept doing those exercises before there were brief periods of relief but I stumbled upon videos like this and rethought the process. I got a belt and wore it during the waking hours and at first it brought on some pain...slowly though after days the pain dropped off and it started to feel a lot better. I did only a tiny bit of minor stretching in that time but now I am starting to feel like I can get back into more strengthening exercises and kick this to the curb for good.

Thank you for the video, so clearly explained. My SI problems came on gradually, maybe caused by hoisting my elderly Greyhound into the back of the car, and I have been going to a chiropractor. However, the pain got worse with that treatment and has been causing disturbed nights. I have recently bought an SI Belt after watching your video (and a few others also!) and now realise that maybe I've had it on too tight as it hurt more with it on when I walked than without it. However I did sleep better last night (without the belt on) so maybe it is helping! I will try sleeping with the belt on tonight and hope for the best!

I've been pretty much bed ridden and sleep is impossible. I finally found a great doctor that didn't want to fuse me up higher, but found it to be my S I joint causing this pain. Your video led me to getting and properly wearing this belt. I was able to sleep 5 hours straight!!!!!! Will most likely be getting my SI joint fused. Surgeon states that because my SI joints have been taking all the pressure from my fusions for so many years that it should be fused. Do you have any opinion on such a procedure? I've been having pain for the past 3 years, at times it is debilitating and just generally makes me feel old before my time. I believe it is SI joint pain. I'm going to try this, I have a very strong feeling it will help. I have also just started to take collagen peptides.

Thank you for this video! I have Ehlers Danlos and really bad chronic SI and back pain. This was super informative. Just an idea--any videos to cover those of us who need to wear belts and braces chronically and some life hacks/tips/tricks would be AWESOME.

This was excellent. But it does bother me that most healthcare professionals don’t mention ankylosing spondylitis, which is by far under diagnosed. Please do a video on this autoimmune disorder as the belt could possibly make it worse. Thank you.

I've bought a belt influenced by you and I'll try that. I've noticed before that every time I wear pants that require a belt I feel less pain. That belt may solve my long lasting pain. The thing that made me comment though is that you keep telling us to work things with our doctor, but how can one believe on doctors if the vast majority seams to have no clue of what they doing? I've been to a bunch of them and, apart from one that made me do some McKenzie inspired exercises and healed my hernia, no one seemed to know what they were doing.

Yoga can be a great form of exercise, but if someone has SI joint instability yoga and deep stretching that involves the sacroiliac joints can sometimes flare things. I hope you get back to feeling 100% soon!

My gf just got one of these. She was recommended one to help with her hip pain brought on by pregnancy. Some hip dysfunction brought on by normal hip ligament stretching, the running theory is her prior misaligned hips and twisted lower vertebrae (brought on by childhood injury she didn't realize she had until more recently) are worsening the pain. We've tried everything from ointments, creams, patches, and hot/cold pads, but she struggles to walk and any degree of exercise (including yoga and walking) can make her unable to walk properly or at all the next day. We're hoping this helps until we can find a good chiropractor, and further mitigate her pain as the pregnancy develops. (She's 5 months along, but been in pain for 3)

Update. She wears it a bit lower and tighter than the video suggests (after some trial and error) but she's actually walking again. Well hobble walk but she can actually function without her cane and do far more walking without regretting it after. She can't sleep or sit in it comfortably so she just wears it during the day. We've noticed she sleeps better regardless, and isn't in near as much pain when she wakes up in the morning. After months of her crying in pain and taking almost 10 to 15 minutes just roll over to get out of bed, she's able to get up much quicker, and with less pain. It's honestly given her some freedom back, and decreased her stress. We were worried she'd lose her job due to her pain and inability to walk but she's able to do more than she's done in 3 months. She's not 100% and may never be till after the baby. She still has some moments where her hip tries to give out, or where she sneezes and cries because pain shoots through her hip and leg. But all in all she's doing so much better. 20 bucks well spent.

Completed an Ironman Aug 2019 - soon after I started getting SI joint pain. Fast forward 2 years and countless treatments … this is the first time I’ve heard about these belts and their use for healing. I’ve been biking, yoga, stretching as recommended by physio and no relief. I’m glad I watched this video and pray that I get some relief finally. Would using a rowing machine cause shearing of SI joints? What about running? (I’m thinking running is a no go). Thanks again.

Dr. Pedersen, I had an injury at the L5 S1. I have a history of SI joint pain to begin with. Worked with a chiro to do laser therapy the first time I had SI pain (this time also). Would wearing a trochanteric belt be advisable with a well diagnosed L5 S1 injury? I would love to try this. I can't walk more than 15 feet without a walker and can't stand without pain more than 30 seconds. I'm gonna buy this, but I didn't hear anything about s1 injury. The injury happened while on my knees in small space loading heavy luggage. I turned sharply from the left to the right. The torque I'm sure caused this to be more traumatic than expected. It's been 4 months. They're going for the epidural, but if this works I won't have to do this! Thanks doc! NEVER heard of this belt.

I have been watching your videos on SI instability and everything you've described is spot on with what I'm experiencing, except that I have pain down the front of my left leg instead of the back of the leg. It starts at the knee and goes down into the top of the foot. I'm wondering if that could indicate something other than SI instability. I also have pain on the side of the hip which makes me thing possibly the bursa.

Hello, can you injure the SI joint by lifting and carrying a very heavy item?
@PositiveMotionChiro
7 ай бұрын
I have seen that happen before, yes. Carrying a heavy item can also cause injury at the lower back and lumbar discs, amongst other areas.
