Braid also works well for fishing small hooks for catfish if you get a snag you can bend the hook and save more tackle and money. Not to mention the time you save tying hooks.

Thanks for the tips! When doing the double uni-knot, I like to double over the braided line because sometimes the braid slips. Last I thought you were crazy about using the black marker to disguise the line, I will be the first to say, my hook up ratio has gone up. Thanks again and keep these videos coming.

Thanks for great info.Mr. Martin. I’ve been using braid for over 25 years and agree with you on all. I always used Green Marks a Lot with split tip to camo line end thinking it would blend with vegetation (and fished a lot at night). I will start using black, and also been using Leaders for 1st time.

Braid is the way to go.if I've got a little bit more clear water conditions I'll still throw bread but I'm usually tying a fluorocarbon leader on. Generally about 18-24". There are a few situations where I'll tie a mono leader on but for the most part the fluorocarbon leader. Most TOP water I'm throwing straight braid. I use a Alberto knot or a fg knot. Love you Roland!!! LEGEND!!

Good tips, I love the braided line its lack of memory is a great benefit. I use glow vis at night, it lights up under a blacklight. I met you at a boat show in Louisville Ky years ago after that classic on the Ohio River. We were both young men then, I understand the old man part. I'm in Okeechobee City now but headed back to Kentucky next week.

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge Roland. I used 30# braid / 8lb diameter as my main line with about a 3 foot 8# fluorocarbon leader on my worming and top water rods tied with a blood knot. As of now, I will be using a double uni knot. Why? Because Roland Martin says so. All the tips that you have shared over the years, through your television show and now KZitem have helped me in becoming a more successful bass fisherman. Yep the year Spiderwire came out all those years ago... I haven't used mono since. Switched to fluorocarbon leaders. I have no problem with that! it only took 15 years!!! However, watching you fish with casting reels is making me want to buy one again. I probably can't afford your casting reels..but still might get one before summer ends. We finally have a Bass Pro Shops locally! (Daytona Beach)

As always great stuff. I love braid. I started with braid in my spinning reels because it has no line memory. Can set up a feel for awhile a not have to worry about tangled coils. Started using it on baitcasters. Learned a few things. Lower test will "pinch" into itself if you load it up. 30lb is as light as I go. So many variations of braid out there. If you don't like the first braid you use don't condemn using it. Try a different brand. I like power pro. But it takes a day of fishing to quite being noisy thru the guides but it doesn't wind knot and backlashes come out good

Putting 15 pound braid on my medium light fast action spinning rod made a HUGE difference in my fishing. I can fling a weightless senko or a super tiny jig head really far even in wind! With that braid I can feel every bite, hooksets are easier, and I can saw through the grass and junk to wrestle a fish out. One thing he didn’t say is you might want to consider putting a little bit of mono or flouro on your reel first, then tie braid on top of that. Keeps the reel from slipping and saves your expensive braid! The fish I catch either can’t see the moss green braid or they don’t care, cause they bite anyway, even without a leader.

Lol. I straight up thought Roland was gonna use his teeth to cut the braid. Like a boss. Lol. Yeah as a braid to leader guy I absolutely hate micro guides. I use a blood knot mostly. But still….micro guide especially at the tip doesn’t work well. Main reason for using broad for me, in spinning, is the lack of memory and line twist issues. Actually I spooled up a spinning tee with all mono today (working out of town, went and bought some gear to go fishing and was in a hurry). I bought some braid but was in a hurry so I just did the mono. Will be putting the braid on write the next outing. On a baitcaster….braid is so good. Casts great, I get less bird nests. But more importantly if I DO get a bird nest, I can get it out AND the line is still good. Get a bad nest in mono and you managed to get it u tangled that line will break somewhere where that nest was.

Roland, you state that micro guides are not suitable for braided lines with leaders, and I understand that. But the Pro Series casting rod that I just bought from Favorite -- the rod that you consulted on -- has micro guides, making it unsuitable for braided/leader line. How did that happen? Did Favorite ignore your advice? You can't tell from Favorite's web site, by the way, what kinds of guides a specific rod selection uses.

Where could I find one of those power fishing butt deals on the bottom of your rod? I've been using 65lb braid to a hammer hook and senko and I cat h good size fish here in NY. Those butt deals probably make the hook set a little more comforting?
