Researched the emergency radios for months on end. Finally called it and went with the Kaito Voyager KA500. Very pleased with it.

I think the hand crank feature is essential for the possibility of being without power for long periods of time. An emergency radio once it’s out of battery and doesn’t have a good hand crank is a door stop. I’m not a backpacker so I think when I can I’ll get the Eton. Thanks for a good video review.

Cowabunga matey.! Got a similar one (3 actually) made in China. Put it through field test, it's quite rugged too, dropped it a few times & still works. The best part is that all of them are battery operated, USB & solar charge. Got AM, FM & SW 1-5 as well. Cheers for sharing mate. Greetings from Australia. Stay safe for 2022.

Can you clarify something please? Is the weather alert system something different from the emergency alert system? If so what would be an good backup option for receiving emergency alert system broadcasts. Will EAS just be broadcast on am/fm? Is there a radio that will monitor the frequency and alert to an EAS broadcast.

Couple days ago I ordered a newer version Running snail MD 090P it has has some ehanced features from previous version . Says the battery is Li-ion 18650 4000mah. Since they can be replaced I thought a couple more charged spares on hand would be handy so I'd back up a battery with more batteries but not have to buy and stock on AAA batteries for it that may not used often . The 4000mah appeals verses many others that are 2000mah or less. Like for a cordless drill,, smart to have a back up battery that's easy to swap out. I haven't received it yet , cant comment on solar or crank.

How do you like the radio?
@slick777go
4 жыл бұрын
@@johnstouchpad6437 For under $35 I like it !. The description and function of it is accurate. Just got it today. I live out in the country reception is good for a small radio and surprised on a good signal how loud it was with good speaker sound . It will pick up NAOO without antenna raised here. The finish is good not slippery. I may take the wrist strap and make it a strap on top to carry. The lights are bright even the reading light will light up a room. They take a while to charge , I noticed the solar charger kicked in under my coffee table lamp. I plan on getting some more batteries for it , solar is more for maintenance and hand crank is better than nothing but it turns smooth. My Samsung charger plugged into it also has an adapter for probably iPhone. The power was out almost 5 hours the day before I got it.. I think it's a good device, I really really like being able to have interchangeable chargeable batteries one way or another.

I prefer radios that bring in good reception during storms. That are easily programmable to alert my specific location. I dont care about solar cells or hand cranks or menial features.

Uh, the most important thing about a crank radio is how well the crank works AND how long it works. If the batteries are dead and it's night-time or overcast, is it' going to work just cranking or does it die right away. Sort of a huge thing to leave out.

One thing with transmit is there are serious emergency exceptions usually. Don't be a dick with it without a license but if its a life or death thing I doubt you'll be held accountable. It's very easy to pinpoint violators.
