You inspired me to do a zoom presentation for my class. I was able to use what I had on hand which was a lapel mic, stream cam and gehtto 3 point lighting. All I did was buy a cheap green screen and I was able to walk inside my PowerPoints passing it through OBS. Thanks so much! I aced the presentation and everyone was very impressed!👍

Just saw the edit about the SM7B! I got too curious about XLR and all my favorite KZitemrs (okay, Potato Jet) have one. Now I just need to plaster foam all over my walls because cleaning up the audio in post was 😱 lol. It beats my favorite Uhuru but only when I get my settings right. It's been interesting to see that with the more pro gear, it doesn't necessarily sound/look better unless you have the skills to go with it. Learned that with color grading too.

@@JulieSchiro The SM7B is too far away from you mouth that's why you are getting reverb as you had to add slot of gain in post. Try a shotgun microphone, options for tips Podcastage or Curtis Judd. Rode just released a new cheap one.

Excellent content as always - great to see you back. However, given that most people’s real world use case is for online meetings I think there are some really important additional items that would be worth factoring in to reviews. First, how does the product work without software? (For most corporate users, they will be unable to add manufacturer or third party software to their machines - what is the out-of-the-box usability?) Second, how far does the camera sit off the monitor? (Vloggers can look straight at camera, but us mere mortals on Zoom need to look at our screens; if there’s a big disconnect between camera and screen, we’ll look disengaged and inattentive - arguably coming across much worse than the difference between 720 and 1080p) Finally, real world use wants a tight, not wide, field of view (we want our colleagues to see our faces, but they don’t need to see the edges of our rooms). I think if smart reviewers such as you could cover these aspects, it might finally help manufactures get their heads around the actual specs that now matter to most of the market: it’s no longer gamers and vloggers, just us drones ;) Thanks again!

Hi J! Apologies for the late reply to this! Thanks for the nice comment 😊. Regarding your questions: Out of the box: none of the webcams look as good without manual adjustments. I'd say that the Dell and Facecam win here. The M50 or iPhone with Epoc Cam (phone app) would be the only that you could modify without installing software on the computer of the ones I show here. All of the webcams can sit on top of a screen. For the M50, I put it on a tripod and just remember to look into the lens now and again. Regarding FOV: I'm not sure why every webcam I've ever tested uses such a wide FOV. Another reason I like the mirrorless camera option. I think you're right - the manufacturers are thinking of gamers vs. the rest of us, haha. Great points. Saving this comment so I can reference it for next year's review :)

Super comparisons. I chose the Razer kiyo pro from Amazon UK last week with the expectation I might have to send it back if they gave me the old firmware version with auto focus issues (Based on old reviews that seemed like a possibility). However, they sent me a version that I could upgrade and the autofocus is thankfully fine for me. I got it mainly for team meetings, so probably overkill, but for less than 100 euro it’s a decent cam.

I basically did my own webcam comparison last week (just for my own reference to know which to stick with) and it actually came down to a choice between the Facecam and the Logitech Streamcam and I actually opted for the latter just because of the huge difference in price and I was extremely impressed with it's quality as I would say it matched or bettered my Sony A5100 through Camlink. But yeah, another amazing video, keep up the great work Julie!

Thank U very much, Julie. I'm a fan. But I've a question. U use a Elgato Camlink with the M50. Why? First, there are cheaper HDMI USB capture sticks. Second, I mostly use a Canon M50 (and a 600d) with the Canon EOS Web Utility software for zoom conferences. Why should you use a Camlink?
@JulieSchiro
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Christian! Thanks so much for the nice comment! So, I'm using the Cam Link because it yields the highest quality image. In last year's video I tested a cheap capture card ($10) against the Canon Software. The image out of the cheap capture card was sharper but the colors were less good. Since then, the cheap cc might be better than they were. I decided to go with the Cam Link because I've heard so many good things and now it's all I want to use. (Better color, better motion, sharper image than just the software or the cheap capture card). Hope that helps!

Kudos for adding in the green screen comparisons! I've hardly seen anyone else consider this in their webcam reviews/comparisons. I've actually reverted back to my £21.99 Wansview webcam because (surprisingly) in my setup it green screens a lot cleaner than either the Logitech Streamcam or Logitech Brio 4K, which really shocked me. I sold the Streamcam, and sent the Brio 4K straight back within the 30 days for a refund. The Elgato Facecam is very tempting, and by all accounts, seems to be what the Streamcam promised and failed to deliver (at least for me). I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. It also didn't help that I could never get the Streamcam or Brio to output anything except 1080p at 30fps in (very noisy) MJPEG, despite the Streamcam being (in theory) capable of 60fps, and the Brio 4K being (in theory) capable of...well...4K. Any attempt to get them to run on USB3 just gave me a garbled fraction of an image, at about 0.2 frames per second (if that), and the solution being offered online was to use a different make of motherboard. I thought we'd left compatibilty issues of that nature back in the 90s! But that's a different rant. Great video!
@JulieSchiro

Hi Jamie! I'm glad you appreciated the green screen tests - I hadn't seen many comps doing this either. That's really surprising about the Wansview. I wonder what determines whether a camera is easy to green screen with. I know, the Brio and Streamcam don't make it easy to pick those settings unless you're running it in an intermediary like OBS. I don't get that!! Thanks for the nice comment 😊

I tried my iPhone using Camo but I can't seem to figure our correct placement of my phone so it looks like I'm looking into ppl's eyes when I'm talking but also be able to look at my computer to view the outline of my notes for educational videos. It always looks like I'm either looking off to the side or down. I have to look directly at my iPhone camera with it placed directly in front of my face which blocks out my computer screen so I can't read my outline, then when I finally got it positioned better by moving my phone over inside the holder so the camera was positioned better the holder claw pushed the side buttons so it wanted to call emergency services. Ugh! I wish it would work for educational recordings as it's such a cheaper option and looks good but...😞
@JulieSchiro

It can be a hassle to get just right. Glad I'm not the only one having trouble with accidentally dialing emergency services. There is an option in Settings to turn it off (but then you have to remember to turn it back on if you want it on). I've found that with any camera, it isn't possible for me to have the lens in perfect alignment to my notes. Instead, I just look between them. I'll look directly into the camera and then off to the side where my notes are on a screen.

I'm with you on the low video content thing. I started my channel in November 2021, only posted 2 videos because life is absolutely insane (not to mention anxiety). But my content is doing fantastic for having only 2 videos on my channel. I think quality content over quantity is the look (I know the narrative about KZitem SEO & consistency and such) - but I think with correct keyword research and good titles, thumbnails, descriptions, tags (if those even matter anymore) and above all, quality content, you can get away with going at your own pace and putting out videos you know stand on their own. That being said, for your 5th video, this is fantastic! And I feel like I'm paying it forward because I'm giving the same comment to you I've received on my 2nd video. Hi @B Catalin! Thanks for the warm welcome back! 😊 Oh man, the irony. Ah well, at least you get to enjoy your setup! And I have to say, I have the streamdeck and I'm obsessed with it. So great for changing scenes in OBS and a million other things.

@@JulieSchiro So now I'm super confused! I've been watching videos all afternoon regarding using a Sony a6400 with a Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens as a webcam instead of a webcam. Lol. Kind of liking the idea! Picture quality is amazing with the blurred background which makes it look extremely professional.

Very surprised with the Elgato results. I may have to take a closer look at this camera as I often steer away from most usb cams. I still love the Cannon M200 as my main cam though :). For fun I also use three separate Samsung phones at the same time in meetings, and randomly change cameras (keeps those watching on their toes). They come up great on greenscreen using droidcam obs.

Hi Tim! Thanks 😊. The kit lens is totally serviceable, but I got the EF-M "pancake lens" (22m f/2) and it is even better! Lots more bokeh and so crisp.

Considering the fact that the Dell UltraSharp 4k costs nearly 400 dollars in my country, it would be much nicer to get a CamLink compatible (Clean HDMI) camera like a used Sony A5100 which you can find in mint/good condition between 330-400 bucks WITH a kit lens, it's crazy how expensive these web Cams are, it definitely makes more sense to go DSLR/Mirroles camera especially if you plan on doing streaming/recording on a daily/weekly basis, it's a much better investment, and the opportunities are endless with the lenses (Even buying a new Canon T6I, which is super budget friendly and pair it up with a kit lens for starters, and it has a clean HDMI signal , something that my 6D II doesn't have hehe, but the EOS Webcam utility would do the trick). Great video, you have a lovely voice and you're very informative and fun at the same time!

Hi @DG Reacts! Thanks for the nice comment and wow, that is waaaay too much for the Dell! One of these days I want to buy a bunch of under $200 DSLR/mirrorless cameras off of ebay and put them to the test against these webcams.

Do you have audio syncing issues when using the m50 with cam link?
@JulieSchiro

Hi Daro! I haven't, but someone else mentioned this to me. Are you using a Mac? If you use an intermediary like OBS then you can offset the audio and the video to try and correct for sync issues.

Thank you for the 5th Video! Looking forward for new content 😉 Downscaling in Videoconference is even worse, than you said. Zoom e.g. is only 1080p in 2 Person Meetings. Everything above is max 720p. Your Videos were extremly inspiring. In the End I got a 3 Point Lighting and a nice Background made of Stagecurtain....

Hi Jens! Thanks so much for the nice comment and also, whoa - I didn't realize Zoom dropped to 720 with 2+ people. Crying inside a little, lol. I'm really flattered to hear that, and it sounds like your studio is rocking! Stage curtains work just fine. I'm going to do a green screen video using a plastic tablecloth. Spoiler alert, it works fine. Lol.

Do you have any suggestion for camera that doesnt involve any software pc side? Right now from my understanding my only option is to use a camera and à capture card but I was wondering if there were cheaper options.
@JulieSchiro

Hi Jonathan! Sorry for the late reply on this. That's a tough one. If you want to use a phone, EpocCam lets you do your tweaking on the phone app. Facecam saves settings to a flash on the camera itself, so if you set it using another computer and saved it, the settings should carry over. I haven't tested that though. I forget that a lot of corporate computers don't allow users to add software!

@@JulieSchiro I ordered an Elgato Facecam earlier today to test out how it works out in a corporate setting. With the whole work from home my setup is static but I still work with the corporate world limitations. I cant say I have seen many content creator talking about this feature one KZitem even while reviewing the camera itself. If it works how it should, that camera is gonna be a gamechanger! (at a budget lower than a DSLR of course)

Hi Donovan, thank you so much! As for the arm, it is actually a stand! (www.thomann.de/ie/km_27105.htm). The SM7B is so heavy though. You can see it dragged the mic down until it hit the coffee table (I'm sitting on the floor in these videos lol). I need some sand bags to get the mic to stay suspended in the air.
