I agree 14C28N is good - I got a Kershaw Blur 15+ years ago and it did great (and like you said - sooo easy to sharpen). ✌️

@@MitchBollig I'm a huge fan myself. It was heartbreaking when they quit making manual folders in the USA in 14c28n but...I'm sure they just followed the market.

I understand that steel has many characteristics: rigidity, stainless steel, etc. But we are talking about steel on a knife, and the main task of a knife is to cut, therefore the duration of edge retention is the main indicator. And if you compare 14c28 with 20cv, then we are talking about a 3-4 times difference in edge retention, all other things being equal. Yes, 14s28 is easy to correct on a ceramic rod or leather with diamond paste, but personally I would prefer premium steel on an EDC knife than carrying the same worksharp tool.

To each their own bro, I have never had a cpm20cv knife that has served me well. However...I've had plenty of M390 that you'll hear no complaint from me about. It's pretty much the same steel right? Edge retention is very important I agree but it's not the most important thing to me. It's cool if we are different. I've had some 14c28n that's out performed some 20cv ....even in edge retention...possibly because one was heat treated correctly and the other wasn't. Honestly though, I'll take high carbon / tool steels all day over any stainless I've experienced to date.

@@apex_alchemy_knives Could you clarify which models of knives with 20cv steel made you decide that 14c28 is better?

@@Warsmith_Honsou of course , I had a foray in 20cv that wouldn't hold an edge to save it's life. I had a cold steel 4max USA with a 56 hrc in 20cv...of course it was way too soft to hold an edge. Are you familiar with American Bladeworks ? Michael Martin is the maker over there. He would heat treat several blades at the same time, all going through the same processes, yet some blades would be 56-57 and some blades from the same batch would end up in the mid 60's. I have a para3 in 20cv that did ok but nothing to make me feel that's a superior steel to anything. I remember when it was the hot ticket s30v upgrade, and Ive bought several knives in it over the years. It's a steel I avoid now, simply because it doesn't seem to be consistent for most any maker. On that note, if you have any suggestions, I'm all ears. I'd be willing to try a model that I haven't tried if the price makes sense. What I mean by that...if I can get a maxamet pm2 or a 20cv pm2 for a similar price ...I'll own 5 maxamet pm2's before I buy a 20cv model. Like I said , I'm all ears if you have any good suggestions 😎🤘

@@apex_alchemy_knives Those are some crazy low numbers for a 20cv. There are quite a few knives on the market with 20cv below $200. The same zt 0357, AD20.5 sharkcoub, old models from WE.

Agreed on 14c28n-- it seems to be made for real, practical, use in the real world. Good D2 is good stuff, cheap D2 can be pretty questionable. 14c28n at 57 is too soft for a pocket knife. It's a little softer than ideal on a fixed blade

Right , yeah it's a little on the soft side for sure

I don't know why bestech knives aren't made that well, while other knives oem by bestech made very well with very good hardness on them. I think they don't care about selling their own brand knives?!!!
