This basically happened to me with my oldest! I had my 40 week appointment earlier that day and they confirmed she was head down but posterior. My water had broken but no contractions yet and they thought it was her position so sent me home to do some stretches and movement to try to get her to align better. Well, she decided to flip the wrong way! They didn't know until I was fully dilated. My midwife didn't do breech vaginal deliveries either so she called in another local midwife who did, and baby popped out like 15 minutes after she got there.

It is I believe. The reason why it's often not done is the risks involved are much higher than just having a c-section. It requires some a lot of skill, some luck, and a healthy/uncomplicated pregnancy usually for a vaginal breech delivery to go well. That is outside of emergency situations, where the outcome is much poorer.

I was going to ask how they wouldn't have known that the baby was breech. With as many ultrasounds and appointments that pregnant women usually have in the US (gotta keep racking up those medical bills so that they can get more money, the insurance companies and health-care systems obviously don't have enough), you'd think that something as important as a breech would pop up on their radar, literally. But I didn't realize that a baby could turn itself completely upside down in just a day! I figured once their head was down in that part of your pelvis and they had "dropped" as they say, that it would actually be really difficult to rotate 180°, or even move much at all. That's insane!

Me and my twin brother were like this. The nurses didn’t believe my mom was in labour, and it even said on monitors she wasn’t. After hours of extremely horrible pain the nurse said fine and felt butt. She litteraly screamed and called the doctor down. The doctor she got after was extremely kind and apologized for the nurses behaviour (she got fired). I was the breech baby so they had to rush to do a c-section. Unfortunately we were also premature so my brother had a clasped lung and had to be rushed to the baby area (not sure what it is called). Thank god for that doctor because if I was in breech any longer I would’ve had severe injuries. And my brother was fine, we just had to spend 2 months in the hospital.

My first child was born vaginal breech. I was expecting labor to be much worse, so I was already 10cm dilated when I rushed to the hospital after my water broke on the couch. There was meconium everywhere, and the doc poked baby when she checked my cervix. I immediately had to start pushing and got an episiotomy twice with zero pain meds. It was very traumatic. But my miracle baby is now 4 and I'm pregnant with #3.

I actually had somewhat of the same experience. I had an incredibly high-risk pregnancy, especially with my daughter (I was 38 when I found out I was pregnant so I was already not the "ideal" patient lol), so I was seeing a doctor every day or every other day towards the end of my pregnancy. I went in to see my maternal fetal medicine doctor and he said fluid was low at 35 weeks so it was time. I go into the hospital, they start by doing the tape, that's in for twelve hours and then they pull it out and check me, I'm at a fingertip. So they try the balloon. This was in for roughly eighteen hours, and I walked through that labor and delivery ward like no one's business. The weight and being upright and walking were supposed to help dilate me. They took it out, and they were really optimistic that this one had helped. Yeah, it didn't. Still at a fingertip. So they start with the big guns, pitocin. And boy, do they push it. I get an epidural and all is well......for 45 minutes. Then I can start feeling my legs again, which is weird. The nurse finds it incredibly odd that I'm able to continue moving my legs. Then it starts to hurt, and you can guess where. The nurses are flabbergasted, the epidural worked for a while, so why isn't it working anymore? The pain gets worse. And worse. And worse, until I'm screaming bloody murder every single contraction. I couldn't help it, I literally couldn't stop the scream from coming out of my mouth. The pain was just too much. So they called the anesthesiologist to do another epidural. I'll give you a guess what happened! Yeah, didn't work. So he did another one. Then another, and another. I was in labor for two and a half days and ended up getting 13 epidurals, none but that first worked whatsoever. You should have seen my back afterward. Seriously, it looked like I had been beaten badly by a rod. Turns out I had something called a "hotspot" which is an area that the epidural does not work on and it was just my luck that that area was my cervix. So all that pitocin they were pushing and all those horribly painful contractions? Guess how far dilated I was after two and a half days? FOUR FREAKING CENTIMETERS!!! So at 2:05am the doctor comes in and tells me this and that they are going to do a c-section, but since they obviously cannot numb me they are going to have to use general anesthesia and put me completely out to take the baby. At this point, I just sobbed and begged them to just do it to make the pain stop. I was delirious and had no clue what was going on. They came back in a minute later, handed my hubby the scrubs and booties and took me to surgery. My daughter was born at 2:22am. Turns out, there was absolutely no way she would have come out of me if they hadn't cut her out. My daughter wasn't down far enough, she hadn't "dropped" and even though they had tried to break my water three times it was somehow still intact. She just wasn't ready and just plain out refused to come out of me. Knowing her now and how stubborn, strong-willed, and tenacious she is, it seems like she just wanted to prepare us for the road ahead hahaha. But we love our little four-year-old force of nature. She's not going to ever take anyone's crap.

@kathleenheck7910
Ай бұрын
@sensualnina83 thank you. I don't think, as crazy as it sounds, that either of us were in any real danger the whole time, like some mommies out there, we were very lucky. They just ended up having to do it because I wasn't dilating and at that point I had been screaming my head off for so long I'm sure the people in the next room and the nurses were pretty done with me. I can tell you, I've never felt pain like that, it was all-encompassing. I literally couldn't do anything but lay there and scream. And every time afterward I'd apologize lol. It was definitely a crazy experience, especially compared to my son. I had pre-eclampsia with him so they had to give me magnesium sulfate and bumpers on my bed haha. But I got an epidural pretty early after I started feeling things and then pushed for ten minutes and he was out. All in all a very easy birth. And he's an amazing, pretty easy child so there's that. He just turned 11 last weekend. I *might* have cried just a little bit that he has grown up so much so quickly. They tell you it goes so fast but you don't realize it until your kid is 11 and you're in the bathroom sobbing because he isn't your little baby who always runs to mommy when he gets a boo-boo anymore.

My bff's first was breach. They couldn't figure it out because the fetal heart monitor seemed to be in place and working. He must've settled down low for most of the pregnancy because his legs were tucked up really tight. He had the little round impression from the monitor on his bum for a bit too. it’s still crazy to me that the majority of the times when they realize a baby is breech it’s straight to C-Section, even if the mother and baby are not in distress. it’s even crazier that doctors who deliver babies day in and out are not “trained” for breech births or refuse to try to keep natural labor progressing when nothing other than the position of the baby is going wrong.

Something similar happened with my twins. Baby A was head-first like normal, so he would come out first, but Baby B was breech. They really wanted to do a C-section, but I was firmly against it, so we made a compromise that I would deliver in the operating theater in case anything went wrong. That way, the team could easily switch to doing a C-section if an emergency came up. My delivery was easy-breezy, though. I laughed and cracked jokes through the entire thing, and delivered two babies vaginally 11 minutes apart. When Baby B’s butt came out, and he was being squeezed so tight, he peed all over the doctor! We all had a good laugh at that, too! 😂

I would dilate with my second past 1.5cm so they gave me therapeutic rest and sent me home said it was going to be 8-10 hours. I left the hospital went home and my water broke. Then I tired to make it back to the hospital and I didn’t so I gave birth on the interstate
