I know it’s not how it’s intended, but I have found the game becomes much better when having an overseer “gm”, especially when playing with unexpired players. Having a person who are on both sides and can help with questions and make all the “rulings” if there’s something that the guid doesn’t explain or there are some confusion and you’d not want to slow the game down to much. This game can get pretty complex if you don’t know what your doing, an overseer just make it more accessible. Plus you won’t run into the problem with the person knowing the game using it as an advantage for their own gain.

At which point do you hand out the cards who determines who is the traitor? What is a "distance" attack and why are you talking about it? How do the monsters show up and who plays them? So if you get a haunt card you can put it to the side for a while?
@GamesMadeEasy

Hi Maria, whenever a player draws a room tile with an omen shown on it, they must take an omen card and make a haunt roll at the end of their turn, meaning they must roll six dice. If the resulting total is less than the current number of omen cards held by all players, a haunt occurs. You will need to check the haunt chart to see who the traitor is and what haunt scenario will be played. It should say there if Monsters will be part of it or not. I hope this helps! Enjoy the game :)

Note that sometimes you just get unlucky in this game. Once, when I was playing a virtual version using Vassal (although technically, that time I was playing by myself as different characters writing a fanfic using the game as a basis for each chapter), the Haunt started very early because a bunch of Omen cards were found in the first turn or two. It ended up being an interesting experience for me as that round was the first time in the story where the traitor won the game. I've simply been too busy with IRL stuff and distracted by other things to continue the story, but I may want to return to it, especially since I've gotten Tabletop Simulator in order to play the Widow's Walk expansion as well.

This has quickly become my favorite game, but I did have some negative thoughts and I was wondering if anyone else felt the same: 1. In order for the game to be fair and balanced everyone has to know all the rules. And if it's too confusing the haunt becomes less fun because the traitor will likely not understand one of their special rules and inevitably they'll have to ask for clarification by showing the other players the traitor's tome. 2. When you become trapped in the basement, it's really hard to get back out. You basically have to have someone else come rescue you with a secret staircase or the mystic elevator. This would be fine but it happens a lot. 2/3 times for me. Anyone agree or have we just overlooked something?
@GamesMadeEasy
2 жыл бұрын
It's very valid what you've said. I remember the first time we played it and the haunt was tricky and it was the first game for all of us, it was hard! But once you play it more often it gets easier. Agree on the basement!!

1) When I use this as a gateway game, no one leaves the room. We all go through the traitor and survivor rules so we all understand the gear change. 2) I warn everyone of this possibility! The basement is definitely more dangerous, but there are some cool rooms down there too.

well presented really! , we've been playing it frequently but we came to a bit of a disagreement about a part of the ruling which I hope we can get some clarification on; If a player reveals the haunt during his turn - whether they become a traitor or not- does that player's turn get immediately skipped upon the haunt reveal? meaning that they can't use items or actions normally before passing the turn? because upon reading the "Play the haunt section" it said that the haunt starts from the player next to the traitor, but it doesn't clearly mention whether the current turn has to be immediately fort fitted as the haunt got revealed or not.

Thank you for asking this! The rules handle this aspect dismally, even in the third edition. We were all confused and played this incorrectly. Im surprised no how to play videos address this. And Im wondering if the response here is accurate. To GamesMadeEasy: We are playing the fantasy version of the game with the catacombs, streets, and rooms. In this version there is a weapons shop. So it would seem logical that any character should be able to enter this room and draw an item card. Thoroughly confused. Without more items being available, this game seems a bit too tilted towards the traitor and/or monsters. Otherwise one of the better videos Ive seen. But still missing a good description of movement; much like the rules. Also surprised that that sleeping orange giant monster slumbered so calmly and didn’t destroy all your characters on the board ;)

My apologies for the late reply, it was a busy week. Most item cards can be used on your turn only (page 11 in the rule book talks about items). However, if you have the Armor, it specifically says 'any time (not just in your turn)'. The Bell and Amulet of the ages increase your traits, so they passively help if you are attacked in those traits. Omen cards would work in a similar way too. I hope this helps, enjoy the game!

If the haunt is triggered then you look at the chart at the beginning of one of the tomes. You refer to the room the haunt revealer was in and the omen that has just been revealed. How does the vault work? You draw the event card....which has asked to do a sanity roll. I gain 1 sanity. Then what? The vault has 2 item symbols and says you can do a knowledge roll of 6+ to open and empty the vault.... what does that mean
@GamesMadeEasy
2 жыл бұрын
Hello, I am very sorry for the late reply but it's been so busy! The Vault is a barrier room. As you discover the room you draw an event card. You can also attempt a 6+ knowledge roll to see if you can open the vault and discover two items inside, represented by drawing two item cards. Thematically you spend all your effort trying to open the lock. If you fail your knowledge roll you do not crack the safe and your movement ends there. If you succeed your knowledge roll, you crack the safe and discover two items. Draw and resolve each item. What each items does completely depends on what you draw. If the room had already been discovered and you fail to crack the safe, you still cannot leave the room this turn as the Vault is a barrier room and if you fail an attempt to cross any barrier room (in this case to get inside the Vault) your movement ends. Also, you do not 'enter' the vault as a distinct location. On your next turn you can leave the room as normal. Once the vault has been cracked, the vault is ignored in normal play, you can enter the room if you wish, but no actions take place there. If a haunt lets you lock someone in the vault, there will be specific rules for this in the haunt scenario. I hope this help :)

@GamesMadeEasy
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lizzie, You're welcome, I'm glad it was useful. If you want to discover a new room, you keep drawing cards until you find one that is on the floor you are in and play it. If you don't want to discover a new room and just want to move rooms, then your movement will be the number you have in your character's speed. Every room counts as 1 movement. When you enter a room you've just discovered and you draw a card, that will end your movement that turn regardless of how many movement points you have left.
@WrestlerMonkey123
Жыл бұрын
That is not how stealing works. You do not trade 2 points of damage to steal, you trade your entire attack to steal. If you were to deal 4 damage, for example, the way you described it would be that you deal 2 and trade 2 to steal. The rules, however, state that you can EITHER do damage OR steal an item if you were to deal at least 2 points of damage.

Draw a card ends your turn, not just your movement.
@GamesMadeEasy
3 жыл бұрын
The rules state that "You can perform actions (such as using an item or attacking) in the middle of your movement. However, whenever a game effect makes you draw a card, for any reason, you must stop moving for the rest of your turn.” This could be interpreted as you couldn't attack or use items or make a roll once you got in that new room and drew a card. Because it wouldn't be in the middle of your movement. However as it has been stated in many forums, the rules state the relevant part themselves: "you must stop moving for the rest of your turn". There wouldn't be a "rest of your turn" if that was supposed to end it! The fact that you can take actions in the middle of the movement is not meant to mean that it’s the only time you can take actions. You can also do that before or after your movement. As stated in the rules: ON YOUR TURN . . . … you can do as many of the following actions as you want, in any order. So if you want, you can roll for an event after you’ve placed it (like the vault or the closet). Hope this helps!

“ Learn to play faster “ yet the video is 14 min long and there’s videos that are 5 min that give better explanations in short time …… hmm 🤔

Thank you for your comment Yozora. I agree with you there are a lot of videos out there that briefly explain how to play this game and do it very well. What I try to do in my channel is cover as much of the rules as possible to not have to go back to the rulebook all the time. In Betrayal, there are a lot of rules, that’s why I ended with a 14-minute video.
