Now I understand how people rate show level Betta and willing to pay hundreds for one. My female Betta is just a rejected fish by a breeder in my area. They are kept with hundreds of others in a tub, waiting to be given to LFS. She is given to me free by the breeder, I think these rejected Betta fish are more suitable to people that doesn't bother about show level fish, like me. LOL..

Absolutley great video!!! Your one of only two people that ive found on youtube that actually show how they choose for breeding according to IBC standards, societal preferences, and of course your own unique style. So informative👍 most just assume its all about color and the rookies only breed for color without really doing any research and damn the consequences later when they cant care for the fry and more than not have bad form.

My first impression of you was from the video you did about setting up Grandma with a Betta tank. Nice thoughtfully gift for Grandma, but my impression was of a cute yuppy chick getting kicks out of a few fish in the home, but not a serious breeder. This video completely changed my mind. When you cull your stock down to the few with extremely strong qualities for your next generation breeders...if you are not now, you will be a force to be reckoned with in top quality Betta breeding or show stock, and now I subscribed and put you on my short list. Breeding is not about what you started with, but what you ended up with through sellectiv breeding. I have so much more respect for real breeders like you, than the lab rats who shortcut by splice genes with nellyfish, or koi & bettas to make otherwise mutant none existsnt species. It takes much longer to get want you want through selective breed in and much more rewarding. Keep up the great work. 😁

@@SimplyBetta He He, I didn't mean Yuppy in a bad way. Half of the videos out there act like they're experts but actually are not. When I research stuff like Bettas in this case, I have to weed through the millions to find a few that have really solid info. Turns out, you're one of the few. In fact you and a guy named Dexter in the Philippines are the only two I have found who offer good solid info on Bettas. I watch a lot of Betta breeders in the orient, but can't understand a word they say, so I look at their fish. Back when I was 20 I successfully bred a pair of Bettas but the 25 page Betta book I had, said to boil lettuce and feed the babies the bacteria it made. The bacteria killed all the babies. So I quit trying. Now because of you & Dexter, I know what to feed them. I bought 2 pair this week, a Cambodian color Premium Rose Petal male and a Cambodian color Crown Tail, for one pair. Then I got a blue & red King male (I think it maybe the same as a Giant) he's twice the size of my others. And a blue Half Moon. This week I plan to buy 4 more pair, and will hold there to see how successful I am at rearing babies before I go any further. Thanks to you & Dexter I think I will do just fine. 😁

Since you documented and showed us the fish you selected to breed, is there any way you could do like a mini-series of this particular spawn? Like one video where you prepere the breeding tank, one where you condition them, one where you show them mating, the first, second, third week of the fry, etc? I remember this is why I started watching Kasia's channel, when she documented her first koi spawn. I have a feeling that if you were to make such a series you'd get a lot of new people interested.

I am paused at @10:00 and this video has given me so much more info than any other has. THANK YOU. But I'm curious on the male and female fish you disqualify. For instance, the females with the tear drop versus oval, you say you don't like the oval, is that just personal preference or is there more to it than than when it comes to breeding? Like do the teardrop handle breeding better? (My expertise is more toward mammal livestock and I know more rotund and wider hips is desirable, for example). Same goes for a female being "stout and eggy", originally that's what I thought was a good trait, so I'm so confused! lol Are any of these traits just what you prefer or are they sort of like what is... I guess the best word I can think of is "trending"? Or what the customers want? Or what fits into show quality? (it definitely reminds me of dog shows where certain lengths and angles and heights are all particular) Edit: Sorry! For some reason I just need to know all the info and.. it really is a hinderance for me. It's like.. "this does this which causes this" and I will be entirely confused until I know WHY. I need to know everything and all the whys. And if I don't, I'm so confused and lost and feel like an idiot.

@SimplyBetta

Thanks! It is considered inbreeding to pair siblings, but controlled and responsible inbreeding is a necessary part of controlling genetic traits. There is a smaller inbreeding coefficient if you do backcrossing, or introduce new unrelated fish now and then, or work with multiple lines so you can pair unrelated fish (while still controlling traits) after a few generations of inbreeding. If you do some searches for guppy line breeding, there are some good explanations out there. Also, inbreeding fish isn't as big of a issue as with mammals, keep that in mind

But my only fish that are in good condition to breed are my female crown tail and my male veil tail. So I’m going to try it out and see if I can sell some to get a little extra money to buy some good quality fish. What do you think about this pairing? The male is purple, white, blue, and red and the female is completely red. I’m interested to see how they come out. She’s got a large belly full of eggs and he’s already made his bubble nest and I plan on putting them together tomorrow. Just let me know what you think, thanks.

@@SimplyBetta It's a wonderful experience. Not only have I been to four of them, I was an auctioneer at the one in 2009, which included wild species. I got to hold a pair of Macrostoma in my hands, the first time I ever got to see them up close and personal. I hope you will have the pleasure. Your channel is terrific and should inspire more fish keepers to get into Bettas. Have a great weekend, and continued success.

Good video, imo I think breeding plakats is better since they don’t really get rosetail/x factor and can swim better. Just keep in mind that some dragon scales can develop tumors and that melano/pure black females aren’t fertile. Also, the stockier body might be an indicator of doubletail.

Question! Is it healthy to breed siblings? Would they bring health complications?

by your criteria female B should have been chosen. She has a longer tie, just like you're looking for. Would do btter with the chosen male.
