This is a Bette Davis tribute from TCM featuring Jane Fonda, Ellen Burstyn and Gena Rowlands. Never mind the blinking clock in the corner. I couldn't help that.
When Fonda says "She never played safe" that's what makes Bette Davis the GREATEST 'cause she wasn't afraid of play any character! And she could do any genre. Viva la Bette!!!!! Love her :)

I think that Bette very often showed herself in her movies rather than the person she should portray. For example, as Elizabeth I or Judith Traherne. But she really had guts and had this special personality and that is why I love her so.

@@cance7984 Did I say she didn't? However, Fonda commenting on Bette Davis is like Pee Wee Herman commenting on Jonathan Winters.

I love Bette Davis, greatly admire her films, but Fonda's insistence that women felt "empowered" by her performances is pure feminist Bravo Sierra. Just flip it and see how stupid it sounds " Men felt empowered by Errol Flynn, Humphrey Bogart, Gary Cooper, John Wayne." A better word would be " inspired" but that's not what Fonda is getting at. To her type no longer is acting merely to be entertaining, now every role is changing the very fabric of society, correcting it's ills, it's self important virtue signaling. And Davis was not the "only" woman doing so called "powerful" roles, there's Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwcyk, Ida Lupino to name three. That they stand out now is due not only to their incredible talent but to the excellent writers who gave them the words and the director's who encouraged them compared to the insipid, self aggrandizing schlock coming out of Hollywood today.
