Few Photographers have inspired me and have pushed me to try new things. I already enjoy your down to earth personality, sense of humor and the fact that you shoot with Canon, like come on.... (no shots at Sony users or any other ones) but I appreciate these videos because they give me another thing to try with my photography. And truth be told, if I didn't see this review and your take, I don't think I would be comfortable with just getting it. Appreciate the vid and keep killing it, the Northeast misses you!!!

This is great. I think that post work is still part of the process and is an extension of the artist’s vision. I started photography back in 2000 when my favorite teacher in high school put a camera in my hand, and mentored me. All the way up to 2020 I never used photoshop because I was always taught to get it right in camera. I decided to play around with PS and immediately loved the ability to expand my creativity with post. I spent 20 years without using programs like these but I find it very refreshing nowadays to have the ability to create beyond what traditional methods will allow. Great video and I have always admired your work🔥🔥🔥

Two words… “digital art” nothing wrong with doing that with our photography. It adds another level of artistry to our work. I know “purists” will disagree with these concepts and argue that “this isn’t photography”. I can agree on that point and I have a heart for “getting it right” in camera especially coming from the days of film and darkrooms. But even back then masters in photography used numerous darkroom “tricks” to achieve their final results as they perceived them in their mind and not necessarily what the eye actually saw at the time the photo was taken. There is much to be said about both sides of this equation and I can agree that there is a time and place for both. Oh and BTW I enjoy your videos and professional work!
@brianleonard507

I totally agree with you. There is a difference between photography and , I call it, photographic art. If I am hired to do a portrait of someone. Photography. If I am out making image for myself and there is something in the image I don't like and I move it or delete it....photo art. This just give the photographer the assets to let their imaginations run wild

My $0.02 as follows ===> I think you give the customer what they want. If they want their wedding (or other event) to look like a CGI scene from Marvel comics complete with 'Spider Bride' then give them that. This software you demoed then becomes another skill in the photographer's black doctor bag. If, on the other hand, they want pictures which truly capture the moment, then give them those images accordingly which they will have for the rest of their lives to look back on. I also don't see an issue with using this software in post to simplify the generation of images which alternatively would require special strobe/lighting effects (such as simulating the golden hour on a cloudy day). I especially think this software would be very popular in product photography where the marketing hucksters run wild.

I'm torn. Part of me things of the cool things that could be done. But then I think about clients that would only want those types of images, and how much it could add to my workflow. But it still looks intriguing. The other part of me is wanting to keep photography more realistic (I know, we manipulate late, use props, etc. to change a scene, this is a step or four above that :) ), and keep things as they are.

I too, philosophically, like the "get it in the camera" school. But as soon as I realized that once I shot something on black & white film then diffused it with a chunk nylon stocking (which is a whole other philosophical discussion) I was altering the source reality. It’s my opinion, there are two different art forms with respect to photography, especially digital photography. There is the art form of photography itself and then there is “Post Production”. Personally, I don’t like a lot of post production work or changes to images, because I feel like it changes the reality of the image. I do appreciate the art of post production and I think it’s cool and neat what can be done, but I feel like it’s overdone way too often. IMO

Love your way of presenting this. Strong words work as both sides of this fence no doubt have strong feelings about this subject matter. Personally I like the more honest and true version of photography ..... but how true and honest is that really with lens, format , perspective choices playing a huge part in the final photograph. I do draw the line at adding light in post..naa do that shit in camera where you can. As for skin work.. I favour doing a little as possible. No one has uniform skin texture.. no one. but sadly it seems too of become the norm in retouching and in the MSM. I often wonder what affect it will have psychologically on younger generations. Nobody is perfect.. yet everyone is perfect as they are because they are a work in progress.

“Fixing” means making it match what I saw in my vision. If you’ve ever used a gel to fake golden hour, for example, you’ve done the same thing with a different tool. Ever used a non-functioning prop? One could argue makeup is just ‘out of camera’ photoshop. Any effect applied with a brush is effectively a composite. Somewhere there was a painter complaining about how photographs took the art out of painting, and now they laugh as they are back in the game. Do you like the picture at the end? Does your client? If so, you did a good job. If I absolutely hate your image, and I am not your client, what does it matter to you?
@rossshain1893
2 жыл бұрын
@@v3rlon I agree with this. In analog days, photographers used manual dodge and burn techniques when printing and chemical development processes to achieve their vision. Software is just another tool that can be used creatively, tastefully, or over the top. One thing I like about the Optics plugin is it is not using AI... many of the effects in the Optics and gels section recreate historical stocks, physical lenses, gels, and gobo patterns. I think the argument is a bit dated for 2022.

When I was a student in Daytona Jerry Eulsman was the Darkroom Magician, nobody compared to him. He often used up to 10 negatives in producing a final image. A Masterpiece of darkroom magic. Then I start the software, now it's asking me if I want to buy or use the trial. I say trial. It once again asks me for my name, phone number, email address, etc, just to request activation for a trial (I thought I did this already on their website). You've got to be kidding me.
