The old zippos were tight. The current ones are made looser with a linear stamped bar at the button which makes manufacturing cheaper for zippo but they leak fuel easier. Perfect example of zippo going cheap to increase profit margins. The zorro inserts are like the old school zippo(well fitted with tight tolerances). Shame on you zippo for going cheap on quality.

Zippo is such an iconic lighter. The fuel evaporation was it's only flaw. Great review!

The hinge is also a flaw. Could be much better.

Hmmm... I'll need to check these out. I only use my Zippo a few times a year, and always have to re-fuel it before every use, which is pretty wasteful.

I will say, while the zippo does evaporate because it uses fluid, they always light in the cold. It takes less time to warm up. They are very reliable as long as you keep them saturated with fluid.

I haven't seen these in years. Didn't know you can still get them. My dad was a smoker he always had zippos. I remember him allowing me to add fuel when they were empty. If you added to much the excess would leak out in your pocket, and you'd end up with very uncomfortable rash. Thanks for bringing back the memories Dave.

Didn't know you can get zippos? They are everywhere where i live... Personally i don't *yet* own any Zippo, because they're too expensive for me and i want to find one with a perfect design for me, but i do own a lot of knockoffs

actually thank you for this video. I wanted a nice lighter as I started smoking CBD cigarettes and I hate using BICs or just general plastic lighters that are pretty much made to be disposable. Zippos are obviously like the first thing I (and most people) think of with a nice lighter, but seeing the insert on the Thunderbird had it sold immediately.

I bought a black crackle zippo from 1943 eBay for 350$, then I shot it with my 357 and sent it back in to zippo to see if they would “ repair it”. They gave me a new insert, and fixed the hinge that got ripped apart when I shot it. I even told them, hey “ I shot this vintage zippo with my handgun on purpose” they didn’t care! I’m sure I made someone sick though bahaha!

As far as I'm concerned. When you pay 350 fucking $ for a lighter that doesn't cost 20$ to make... You are permitted to their 30 year guarantee

@@WikterRor2807 Not even $20. The Zorro's are better quality and the pricy ones cost like $15 with the shipping included.

I'm sure there has to be a better way than cotton to. Keep the fuel in... Is there no way for an container?

There used to be a product called a Supertank that replaced the cotton with a container. I don't think they make them anymore.
