Era One features large scale battles with ships of different classes and specializations which can use formations in combat as well as tactical flying orientations and stances. There are many types and sizes of weapon systems from Gatling Guns to Plasma which produce dynamic visual deformation and damage on ship hulls. Coming to Early Access on Steam in October of 2024.

From humble beginnings come the best things. And so it is with modders, turned indie developers over at Team Complex who started out modding Homeworld a few decades ago and with their upcoming Space combat and building RTS might soon surpass it.
The game has a host of standard as well as unique elements like asteroid harvesting, modular and totally customizable space station building, warship designing and strike craft equipping as well as an option to take control and manually dogfight. There is even a character named James Karen in Era One, which is a nod to Homeworld’s main protagonist Karan S'jet.
Era One the developers have shifted the focus from stationary objects to a system of modular building of space stations and warships where you as the player can design everything piece by piece and have totally unique fleets. Down to the paint schemes and exterior decorations. To fund all this construction you of course have to harvest resources for asteroids and there are three types of these in Era One.
Beyond asteroids there is another kind of resource that you can find and collect to be able to run research inside specific modules on your ships and stations. That is scrap found at wrecks of enemy ships after battle. Meaning you need a module to send out drones to retrieve this scrap but also research modules to use it and unlock new tech for your fleet.
Besides tech research, resources and power another management aspect of Era One is population. Specifically, crew needed to operate your various types of ships. And while Homeworld kept the crew as just part of the story but not as a gameplay mechanic, developers of this game went that extra step. Here you have to construct additional crew quarters on your space stations to increase your maximum crew capacity and replenish losses.
Formations are a crucial part of combat here, so it is no surprise you have most of the favorite ones: wall formation, delta, sphere, as well as those that are for a mix of ship types one for fighters in the front and another formation for figates taking the lead. Most importantly the formation system in Era One is designed to keep units in formation, no matter if they are flying patrols or in combat, but you can use an option to allow them to perform independent maneuvers and return to formation only after completing their orders.
Era One will feature a navigable sensor mode which doesn’t just show the whole spacescape but lets you move your ships while in it and the mini map will also be interactive. But anyway, when it comes to unit’s tactical options for engagements you not only have the stances like inactive, meaning passive, guarded which would be self-defense, and offensive but also specific flying and movement orders.
These let you choose will a strike craft, or even some of the medium ship classes, just shot and fly by enemy ships, maybe hold at a certain weapon range or orbit them as they engage. Cherry on top is the option for bigger ships to pick the side you want to be facing to the enemy.
