agree w/ Jav D, Great video. A couple of fyi's, on the adaptive cruise, in vehicle settings you can tell it how many mph over speed limit you want to go, the cruise will add it to the posted speed limit (the little speed limit sign on the dash). Also you can set the number of car lengths you want to stay back using the toggle on the cruise buttons. I have had my 2021 for 5 months and I love it! One more, not advisable but using the self driving features in city traffic is a hoot 😎

I just drove my 2018 2.7L EB to Afton Wy and back, a 250 mile round trip. The first and last 25 miles was at 80 mph. The rest was at 65 except for a short period of about 10 miles each way in 4WD due to ice over a 7600 foot high mountain pass. The truck recorded 23mpg on that trip. I always use 91 octane ethanol free in my tank. Just FYI, these motors do deliver great mileage. Good info on the adaptive cruise. I have a 2021 Lariat that should be delivered within the week and I will be towing a 6000lb camp trailer with that truck. My '18 XLT does a great job but I can't wait for the Lariat to get here.

Yeah, every now and then it gets tripped up by the trailer and it starts to induce trailer sway. They could've tuned it a little better. But it still works pretty well. Glad the truck doesn't disable it when towing.

Yup.... lanekeeping works like a champ while towing. We were wondering the same thing. We also couldn’t help but notice that the “gold standard” of self-driving cars (the Tesla) disables Autopilot while towing. So the Ford has really upped the ante. And better yet.... you aren’t pulling over to charge every couple hours. Towing will destroy the range on a Tesla, and make a lot of long drives impossible. On the Ford, you just have to stop for gas a little more. No big deal.

Be careful using this feature towing especially with heavy loads and wide trailers. 1: As mentioned in the video it can get close to other lanes on occasion. Wider trailers will end up on the line or over it. 2: As CoPilot 360 does its job keeping you centered it can make quick steering adjustments to the truck that can increase or even cause the possibility of the dreaded death wobble on trailers especially those with heavier/uneven loads. Does it work with trailers? Yes. Should it be used? Not so sure. Stayed with experience on 2021 F-150 super crew short box 4x4 with CoPilot 360
@ArmyProperty
3 жыл бұрын
@@teamyardlers4615 thanks, and as always the driver is responsible for everything the vehicle does or fails to do. In terms of death wobble, that happens to trucks with solid front axles. If you mean uncontrolled swaying, yeah that's definitely something to be aware of. But we've towed in stiff crosswinds and the CoPilot 360 does a pretty job of keeping the trailer under control. We also had the trailer stability control kick in really aggressively one time (while towing with a 2019 Expedition) when the trailer was starting to sway really badly. So we think overall that this is a really good system.
@teamyardlers4615

@@ArmyProperty I agree with you. Maybe ‘death wobble’ is the wrong term. I thought that meant uncontrollable sway based on safety videos I’ve watched. Either way we love the system and think it’s great even when towing. I mentioned what I said in previous comment based on a couple instances using copilot 360. We would agree it does work very well in heavy crosswinds and many other situations. Just think people shouldn’t be overly confident using it when towing. Thanks for your additional comments to my reply.

We have the same ping pong effect when towing. You really have to keep weight on the steering wheel to prevent it. However, even holding firm and going over angled bridge abutments, the truck wants to ping pong such that I have to disengage lane centering. My 2018 Tesla Model 3 I don’t even need to think about steering, but it can’t tow my 5000 lb trailer 🤷♂️

Lane keep is different than lane centering. With lane centering the truck takes over the steering. Lane keep you just kind of bounce between the lines and is helpful if your drifting.
@OldAndGettingOlder

I agree and disagree. Dumb idea to let go of the wheel? Okay. One can think this, but then one would be against Blue Cruise. I am not. You can hack lane centering by weighting the steering wheel. You can then let go. It works and works great. Of course you still must do everything to drive the truck except hold the wheel, but you must be ready to take the wheel just in case....no different than using Blue Cruise. I hacked my Maverick's lane centering and it works perfectly hands free on highway drives. Where I agree is that lane centering is a God send on long highway drives. It's a little hard to comprehend this until you've actually tried it. Once you do, then you'll fully understand.

Is your trailer a flat nosed or wedged front end? Also how tall is the trailer, 7ft or 6ft? I’m just trying to estimate what kind of mileage I would get. Thanks!
@ArmyProperty

Our 6x12 has a slight wedge / v-nose on the front. It's approx 6ft high on the inside, and rides about 1ft off the ground, so the total height is about 7ft. We noticed that when we rented a 6x12 U-Haul, which has a slightly lower overall height, our MPG's went up a little bit -- even though it's got a flat front end.

Tesla has Navigate on autopilot. Does the Ford follow the navigation, on ramps off ramps change lanes?
@ArmyProperty
3 жыл бұрын
Definitely not. All the Ford does is to keep you in the lane. It won’t navigate or anything like that. If you want to change lanes, you get on the blinker and it temporarily turns off lane-centering, and you change lanes manually. Then, once the truck detects that you’re in the next lane over, it’ll pick up lane-centering automatically. Pretty basic system but it does the job.

Does it work on city streets or stop for stoplights/stopsigns? Does this system auto change lanes and center for you? This doesn't seem as advanced as Teslas system at all. Why does the driver have to center first? Tesla is light years ahead here. Only working in pre-scanned highways and STILL not being able to auto switch lanes is kind of a joke really. Not having chimes tell the driver that status is a no go. Hopefully they can update the software.

@@TypicalBlox yes "215 supported cars"... but look at the fine print. Most of those cars are really just variations on one or two vehicles, and many have marginal support or severe limitations. I.e. of those 215 cars, 58 of them use the stock Adaptive cruise, not openpilot, more than half have say that ACC is experimental, may disable Automatic emergency braking, etc. There are 24 vehicles listed as "supported" but that don't do any steering, and 45 can't resume from a stop. Realistically, Comma only works on cars that already have all these features to start with, and even then it's basically Honda, subaru, nissan, and Hyundai. They list Toyota, but then state that it doesn't actually work on any new cars. If you look at the headline page for "good" candidates, in brand new cars, it limits it to the Kia EV6/Hyundai Ioniq 5 (same car) or the Hyundai palisade or sonata (both last year's model) And funnily enough, those "recommended" vehicles fall into the category of disabling your automatic emergency braking to make work, so I'm not sure I'd call those the "best" candidates! I really like what comma.ai is doing, and I wish them all the best, I'd even consider being a customer if I could ever find a vehicle I'm interested in that it would work on. But they're fighting the entire automotive industry, and they aren't really winning.
