Hey guys, we just want to address the "Bella as Ellie" comment we made and point out that the issue some of us have with her are not motivated by looks as much as the behaviour of the character and the way Bella played her & Just loyalty to the original vision of the character which I prefered. As Mentioned in the video, I believe Ellie in the game comes off as more Innocent and kind, Ashley as Ellie in the game is curious and hopeful but Bella reads the same lines as annoyed and passive aggresive. And I personally work as a film editor, my job is to read actors and make them fit the narative, I've also been doing this for over 5 years at this point, I'd say my oppinion is not just one motivated by "ohh, I don't like the looks" No..I like Bella, I loved her in Game of Thrones, I just don't think it's the best choice for Ellie, it doesn't mean the show isn't good, In fact we all really like it, if you like her, it's completely fine, I'm happy you feel this way, so do we, just not as much as some of you it seems, we can all still be friends despite this so let's keep it friendly, cheers!

That's funny how differently people can feel about the same things because to me her performance was the closest to capturing the spirit of the original character than anyone else's in the show. Game Ellie is also often passive aggressive: all the time towards Bill and for a good stretch to Joel after he criticized her for using a gun. Even run aways from him at one point. While Bella's is not entirely the same, she just has that "ellieness" as the showrunners put it. The biggest difference I see between the two Ellies is that Bella's seems to be more energetic and excitable. To me it's the Show Ellie that's more curious and hopeful. Show Ellie genuinely hopes to fly to the Moon and makes plans for after while Game Ellie by the end acts as if she knew she was gonna die. To me, it's Pedro's Joel that's a different one. He's a huge softie by comparison to Troy's Joel. He laughs, cries and is able to open up to others which is something that Game Joel would have never EVER done. Pedro's Joel is so different that they had to even remove some of the character's iconic lines like "He ain't even hurt" or "You're treading on some mighty thin ice here" because they didn't feel right coming out of Pedro's version.

I think given how Elle changes over the course of the two games, I think Bella is the best choice as was the tweak to the personality in season 1. I think it will connect better vs take someone who can only play the innocent Elle and not the spit & kill Elle later on.

Personally, I loved Bella Ramsey as Ellie. I think it’s important to remember that this is an adaptation, Craig stated that every character will be changed to fit the storyarc. This show was not made for the gamers, but to showcase a narrative for television. Also talking about new casting is a bit of a slap in the face, Bella Ramsey has been Ellie for 2 years…she’s put years into the character. It’s fine if you don’t like her as Ellie but there’s so much discourse around this it’s becoming old. This unfortunately just facilitates hate, where Bella unfortunately went off social media due to its severity. Regardless, I’m excited to see all your reactions to season 2.

Cheers, I like this comment and I agree with it! Many have indeed talked about it, but it's the first time we are discussing it. We did say, we like her performance, it's just different to the original in a way I personally don't prefer. Reason is, Bella generally plays her more aggresive in Comparison to Ashley who played her more hopeful, really it's a thin line, Bella I feel like, played her really well in tense moments, Pedro also plays Joel different, there it's the oposite, he seems to play Joel softer in comparison to Troy, these are not just the actors, it's the directors and the writing. What you say is fair about her playig Ellie for 2 years, it's an investment and it would suck for her to be replaced, but it's happend to other characters and actors on tv, for example in House of the Dragon where they swaped one of the main characters due to a time skip. Still that sucked and I imagie it would feel similar here. What sucks is that bella gets hate for her looks, what we state is different, it's the energy that we prefered in the original ellie from the game, which is also due to directing. Overall that little comment seems to be the only thing people took from the video and it's a shame. Coz none of us hate Bella, it's all a bit exagerated, as if they didn't hear the part where we say we like her and just would have prefered a different take closer to the game. But oh well. Thanks for being civil!

So this one guys criteria for the actress to portray the character of a video game Is that she has to look like the character from the video game, she portrays Ellie perfectly She captures her essence, Her attitude and humor.
@CouchPatroll
Күн бұрын
Go back, and listen again, I said it's not about her look. It's the way she is directed and the energy she has, literally the same lines from the video game come off as aggressive by Bella where in contrast they sound hopeful from Ashley. Thing is its my job to pick an actors best take, studied it 4 years, worked for 5, I can appreciate her as an actor but I can also spot tge difference between the two and I preferred the idea of Ellie being innocent and hopeful than angry and aggressive. I know plenty of people judge the look alone, that's misguided, she is a good actress and she did well in season 1, especially in dramatic scenes where she used the machete for example. Coz she plays with aggression very well in general.

I am a gay man. So I may be bias on the story in both TLOU games, but I appreciated the dual point of views in the game. I can see how some may see it as two different games layered on one game. However I appreciated the conflict it puts in the glands of the gamer. As. TWD fan, I also appreciate the situations that make the viewer conflicted on the actions of the characters. There is always the killer & the killed. There are going to be people who loved one or the other, regardless of who had what intentions.

For me, I thought Bella Ramsey was perfect for 14-year-old Ellie, as she looks like a kid, so she was perfect for that Ellie, but Ellie for Part 2 is taller, she looks much more mature, her voice is raspy, more savage and badass, etc., so I wanted them to recast Ellie for S2-S3, as Bella doesn't fit Ellie from Part 2, she will still do a good job with the material she is given, as like I said, she is a great actress. I won't be surprised if she gets another Emmy nomination, but Cailee Spaeny and Kaitlyn Devers fit much better with Ellie from Part 2, and for Abby, they needed to give a muscle suit to the actress; Abby being so strong is such a big part of the character, and I am sad that they are going to change Ellie and Abby to fit the actors, as I loved so much the version of the game, but whatever, I'll take it as it's own thing, and I just hope I like these versions of the characters, but this teaser looked incredible so. And Abby being that big is not super unrealistic. Where she lived at WLF, they fished a lot, they had farms and crops, she ate very healthy food, and she trained like a madman as she wanted to become the strongest person she could to get revenge, so it's not super unrealistic; she had the body similar to a powerlifter. And if you want to talk about unrealistic, talk about how a 50-year-old man like Joel was superhuman in the first game, talk about how he was stronger than men in their prime, how he was faster than men in their prime, talk about how he fell from a 3-story building and should've died by hitting his head on the floor, or from having impaled a dirty old metal bar, or from all the blood he lost, so do not try to bring logic with one character if you are not going to use the same logic for others. I hate when people complain about something from a character and then don't keep the same energy for their favorite character. Most video game characters are superhuman, so there's no point in using realism. There’s a reason they changed that scene for the show, as it’s nowhere near realistic. And the writing got complaints about people that didn't even play the game, bombarded the game with 0/10-1/10 even before it came out, and people that have no screenwriting knowledge and act like they know anything about it. TLOU2 is one of the most acclaimed video games of all time; it won GOTY, it won best narrative and writing, and many more nominations from people that actually have knowledge in writing. TLOU2 is one of the best, most complex, devastating, and emotionally draining stories in any media, and do not be surprised when the show also gets nominated for best writing, showing once again that it is one of the best written video game stories. And I am not gonna lie, but it is such an asshole move to spoil her. What happens to Joel should've let her experience it for herself.

Hey there, long comment, let's answer from the back - That was an accident, the sharing of Joel's death, he didn't know she wasn't aware of it :( - The writing: I agree, the same way there are "woke" people there are those on the other side that act out of line and hate on something because youtubers and other influencers formed their opinion for them. Most people can't write anything even remotely good to what we got in the last of us part 2. With that being said, I do have knowledge of writing, studied film making for 4 years, including writing and then worked another 5, and..I appreciate the writing, I see why they did certain things, and I think it's a form of inovation, naturally it will have some pullback.. I think the directing of the game and the choice to have us play Abby is what made most people mad to be fair. About Abby Her physicue etc, is really a very minor thing, not really a big deal at all. People that like the game, are just filling in the gaps for themselves and make sense of it, people that don't, go against it, based on what I've seen in my life, and the rest of us, we don't see women like this anywhere, and we know some very tough women, we do a lot of sports, gym, martial arts etc..Women can be tough indeed, but abby's design is to almost look like a man, that for me, is not realistic in this world when I spend so much time around women that train daily and they are nowhere near as big. As you pointed out though, the game is just a game, so people that use her looks as a main point to hate on the game are just too much. For us, it's just a thing we ain't buying, purely because of the world they live in, nothing wrong in that I think? :D Bella is good, she did not have the innocence imho comapred to game Ellie, but good anyway, It is for Part 2 that we are worried more, she looks almost the same as in the first season, even though she is 21, a re-cast made sense to all of us, but anyway, I am sure she will do a good job regardless!

@@CouchPatroll Neil Druckmann created Abby to emotionally manipulate us. He wanted us to play as her to demonstrate her personality.Druckmann wanted players to hate Abby early in the game but later empathize with her through her flaws and redemptive actions. It is a very bold and risky move, but I respect him for being different and original than not making Abby a playable character and just making her a basic villain that killed Joel, and the whole game is just Ellie going after her. I loved her more than Ellie in Part 2. Abby was my favorite character. I loved her complexity and how strong and badass she was. And the women you are around don't train to get that big because women generally don't like to train the upper body or get big, but there are a few powerlifters and bodybuilders that are women. Is it as common as men? No. But Abby was one of those few women. And it's not unrealistic, as like I said, Abby wanted to become the strongest version she could to get revenge, and she was always into lifting weights, as in the flashbacks she still had a good physique, so her training like a madman to become the strongest version she could and getting so big is not unrealistic, as she always had a full gym, the motivation and also had the food to do so.

@@reynaldolorenzo8409 Completely agree on the first part of the comment, 2nd part..it's really down to suspension of disbelief, many bodybuilders go for performance enhancing drugs etc, it is very highly unlikely to maintain this, I see you have your opinion, and I have mine, and there is no point in going back and forth on this, I respect your opinion to say...maybe, in any case, her built is such a minor detail that we only commented on because the actress playing her is more lean and how I'd actually imagine a real woman in this world.
