This novelty song - which went viral in 1936 - was recorded by many top artists of the day including Tommy Dorsey in the USA and Henry Hall in the UK. But having listened to them all I really think that this is my favourite. It's an astonishing performance by Mae Questel and the hiccup at 00.58 is sheer genius!

I first saw this clip in the 1960's as a young boy...always thought it was funny and was attracted to the melody of the tune. It....was only today - 21 March 2022...that whilst listening to old time Jazz that Google Home randomly played for me....that my ears perked up at this familiar lost song...and then....flashed back 50 years to when I first saw Curly singing it....only now correlating the two. Big grins and moist eyes. Amazing times we live in.....

As a kid, I heard Curley singing while they loaded the cannon and I figured there had to be something to that song. I love Betty and this version is nice, but the Boswell Sisters own this number in my book.

From Wikipedia: Mae Questel (pronounced "ques-TELL"; (9/13/08-1/4/98) was an actress and vocal artist best known for providing the voices for the animated characters, Betty Boop and Olive Oyl. Born as Mae Kwestel in New York City to Simon and Freida Kwestel, she attended Morris High School and studied acting at the American Theatre Wing and the Theatre Guild. ...at the age of 17 Questel won a talent contest held at the RKO Fordham Theatre in the Bronx by imitating Helen Kane.

@bernardin1996: Toot's Character from "Drawn Together! was based on Betty Boop, Both Being sex symbols. Toot is a "parody" or "spoof" of Betty Boop. Where Betty is sweet and attracts many people, Toot however, does the complete opposite.

@TuberOnTheLoose - yeah....and? Of course, There is nothing new under the sun. It's so funny how people think that in the "old days" everything was so perfect. That is such a misconception. It's called sin, Hello? It has been around since life began!
