Boomerang in 1992 was a box office hit. $131 million worldwide on a $42 million budget. For 1992 that’s great. People did love the film that summer, also the soundtrack was huge. It’s disappointing that most film journalists put this film with Eddie Murphy’s flops, it was a success and a great movie. It’s one of Eddie Murphy’s few romantic comedies and many consider it one of his best performances during that time and people still quote the film. There was even a TV series later made based on the film. At least give it proper credit when going over Eddie’s early ‘90s career. Yes he had many flops and disappointments during 1989-1995 but Boomerang was a box office success and still one of his best comedies.

I always found BHC3 to be more family oriented than the previous two. Having recently re-watched it, John Ashton is missed in this but Hector Elizondo does a great job at filling that gap. This film does feel as though it was trying to grab a wider audience rather than being as gritty and as faithful to the previous two. Some scenes are just silly and seem too over the top like The Miniature train going “arghh” when it gets stepped on, Billy’s SWAT team on the van, Axel fumbling with that Multi - Gun to the point he puts it down after blowing up a stall etc. it’s not bad comedy, it’s just not the kind of thing you expect to see in a BHC film. I personally enjoy as it does have some memorable moments and is a childhood favourite but it is the weakest one out of the three without question.

Well, BHC III would’ve been dead if it wasn’t for its director, John Landis, who’s reputation as a director have been tarnished by the gruesome tragedy on-set of The Twilight Zone: The Movie in 1983 and the book “Outrageous Conduct” proves that. It’s a great book.
@amoeboidtendencies5137

I did a deep dive on that accident this winter. By all accounts it seems very difficult to have any sort of charitable attitude for Landis after learning the details behind it. Violating child labor laws, lying to the children's immigrant parents and paying them under the table, hiding the kids on set from safety inspectors, showing up uninvited to the funerals of the 3 individuals that died on HIS film set to do damage control, giving jurors at the trial tickets to his upcoming film... Watching the raw 30 second clip of the tragedy, it's like watching real war footage, so extreme and chaotic. Yet you don't see anything explicit--the helicopter goes berserk, tips over, and that was that.. It is beyond belief that actually happened and no one just clocked Landis in the face and shut that shoot down before his ego murdered 3 people.

What I'd like to know is, why did Eddie Murphy work with John Landis again after Coming to America, since Eddie trashed Landis so badly in a 1990 Playboy interview? He said he gave Landis a break to direct Coming to America, since Landis' career was de facto dead after he oversaw the film shoot responsible for the very careless deaths (via helicopter) of 1 actor and 2 children via helicopter with Twilight Zone: The Movie. Landis was apparently resentful at Eddie for not testifying on his behalf during the trial. Fun stuff.

BHC 1 & 2 is like Jaws 1 & 2 - the first films are bonafide classics and because of that, the sequels often get hate. But Jaws 2 and BHC 2 are both fantastic films, with great directors. The issue with BHC 3 was the story, it's so weak that they even lamented it by having a theme park of the setting. Likely Eddie Murphy had way too much say on BHC 3, meaning it went down the more childish route.

Not one time in the film does Axel Foley do his trademark lying to get into a place and on top of that when he goes to Wonder World for the first time, he is legit there on a murder investigation and agrees to pay to get in. This film is an utter disgrace to the character of Axel Foley from the 1st 2 films!!!

I saw this one on opening weekend and the theater was mostly empty. And yes, it was awful! 😂

I remember renting this back in the day as a joke, and thought it was not that great yet still watchable, one of those movies good for a casual watch, again just ok, . However makes you wonder why they would do a 4th one, yet the next one is direct to Netflix, so that really says a lot of what quality the 4th one will be.

Nah. By your logic, every Netflix movie is bad, which is just wrong.

I'm hoping the fourth film is better than the third one.
