this was a good time, at least Dave seemed to appreciate it

What the hell was Devindra talking about in this episode regarding Fred Savage?

I liked the film and I didn't put myself into a big inner-conflict about it like Jeff did but he does have some good points regarding legacy sequels. I'm happy the movie doesn't take itself too seriously and knows exactly what kind of sequel it is. This isn't like the recent Ghostbusters that puts the original in this huge pedestal and it's constantly trying to be worthy with "legacy seriousness". They were not trying to reinvent the wheel with the previous sequels and I'm glad time has not affected how a BHC sequel should look or feel like. Is not a perfect movie, but it is perfectly adequate in what is trying to achieve.

I think you could call JJ Abrams’ Star Trek the first legasequel. Probably still the best one

I was bored with this film. Didn't laugh once. I rewatched the first Beverly Hills Cop right before this. LOVED the first one. So much joy. Axel F was a slog. This should put a final final final nail in the legacyquel era. This film should have let the Kevin Bacon character (bad cop) be played by a young comic, the Eddie Murphy of today (no idea who that would be). But this young fast-talking, hilariously irreverent cop is the bad guy and doing all the stuff that Kevin Bacon's character is doing. Axel F is now a tired old desk cop now, but he's the only one who picks up on the young bad cop's schtick, and has to out-BS this bad cop and beat him at his own game by doing all the same stuff. I think that could have been a fun way to do this, rather than just letting Axel F have been seemingly doing this SAME schtick for the past 40 years? So dull and doesn't give Murphy anything to do.

See. Now. It's interesting because I don't have any real nostalgia for Beverly Hills Cop. I found the original to be pretty pedestrian and dull. But when I watched this new movie I ended up really enjoying it.

@@MatsThyWit Wow. I can see someone watching Axel F and saying, "enh. That was fine." But BETTER than BHC? That's baffling, lol. The plot of both movies was incredibly pedestrian. If Stallone had been in the first one, we wouldn't be talking about it today. It would just have been another rogue cop movie. The entire appeal of the first movie was Murphy's pure charm. He had the magic sauce for half a decade, and then just occasional returns to the sauce over the next three decades.
