I moved from Nashville to Chicago 12 yrs. ago and NEVER LOOKED BACK. I don’t have kids in the school system, but I can say in Corp America, Nashville is one the most prejudice cities I've worked in. Nashville companies refuse to promote blacks and severely underpay blacks compared to other cities for the same work. Nashville’s upper management would create positions for their white friends and coworkers. I have seen and experienced it all. I worked for a Fortune 500, well-known company for 8 yrs. and witnessed this firsthand on several occasions. As soon as I found a job in Chicago, doing the same thing as in Nashville I was paid a STARTING salary that was 20k more than Nashville. Until moving to Chicago, I had never seen a black or Hispanic CEO, COO, CFO or Director in Nashville Corporations until moving to Chicago. That is shameful. I was 44 yrs. old when I relocated. COMPLETELY SHAMEFUL!!! Nashville's city or government offer no incentives, grants or business ownership assistance to minorities like other cities including Chicago. My relocation was the best thing that ever happened to me. I now own my own home and have 2 businesses and the sky is the limit. Nashville has a long way to go in the area of equality and diversity.

SPED teacher here. We need solutions BUT we have to Reprogram our students when they come back after the weekend. When we try to correct student behavior by calling their parents and they laugh because their mama gonna come up and try to fight the teacher (this has happened 3 times in a school year and 1 was toward me) for Correcting their behavior and making them accountable. The solution starts with PARENTING CLASSES

Great conversation! I've heard these talking points before, but too often home life and/ parent accountability and childhood trauma are missing from the discourse. Is it just the fault if the schools or do the schools reflect the community they are in? In communities where an overwhelming majority of parents have structure, safety, and high standards the schools do too. I know this firsthand. The opposite is also true. I believe the school to prison pipeline doesn't begin in school, but school plays a part definitely.

The schools are doing EVERYTHING they can in a Lot of places. Sometimes it easier to just remove the 1 when you have to educate the other 24. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN HOW TO BEHAVE IN SCHOOL!!! I am black. I am a woman. I cape for my black folks. BLACK PARENTS get your children Together. NOEXCUSES when them folk get them First!!!!
You've got to get them where they LIVE before this world schools them. It is true what is said about teachers being afraid and not wanting to deal and just calling the resource officer. Dont act like kids (period) arent bad as hell and their parents enable them. We waste HOURS correcting behavior and can not teach. Arrest the PARENTS and not the elementary kids. They will start correcting their bad behavior at the house then
