Use the +2 strength chest instead, change extra feat to dual wielder, choose duelling from fighter instead of defense, use knife of undermountain in main hand, nyrulna in offhand. You get +2 from duelling and the 1 crit/reroll on damage rolls lower than 2 which helps all your 1d4's for a higher end damage output. Now you crit on 18s and do more damage.

Gives +2 strength Just like other guy said, use that and skip the asi at rogue 4 cause you will be at 20 str and you can take alert to go first and thin groups before they have a chance, or take dual wield like the guy above said. I have bow of awareness on and high dex so I'm usually near the front in act 2 but a lot of damage can be avoided if you act first

I am SO glad that Larian made it so cheap to respec your character - most games only give you a few chances to do so, or require some kind of consumable. 100 gold is great, I have respec'd several of my characters already to test out different builds.

I found out that The Sparkle Hands are supposed to trigger their lightning charges only on unarmed attacks, but they actually work with thrown attacks as well. Presumably, the game checks to see if you have a weapon in your hand when it rolls for damage, and since your hand is empty now that you've thrown something, it assumes that it was an unarmed attack. I've been using the pike of returning with Karlach, and I keep doing a bunch of extra lightning damage since she can hit 5 lightning charges with 3 throws every round. Also threw the Jolty Vest on her to use the extra lightning charges for an extra defense proc.

Kushigo gloves are the way to go if you want to stack more damage. The 1d4 throwing damage can be proc'd multiple times so its more like 3d4 extra throwing damage. Helldusk 1d4 fire damage only procs once on your first layer of damage. So with kushigo you get 3d4 extra damage vs the 1d4 for helldusk. Caustic band has same downside the 2 acid damage only has 1 damage instance, doesnt proc multiple times

For early game cloaks, if you're playing as the dark urge you can get the Deathstalker Mantle, which grants you a 2 round invisibility once per turn when you kill an enemy.

Throwbarb is one of my favorite builds, i was skeptical at first but the more i played the more i enjoyed. It had some goofy interactions with a lot of gear/tavern brawler though. There were times i was getting 3x strength modifiers instead of 2x with tavern brawler, while throwing. Gear like the flinging ringing just adds an extra 1d4 (2d4 on crit) to 'any' damage roll you get while throwing. It also, for me at least, was giving it's own dmg roll outside of the weapons dmg roll. so if I only had Flinging Ring equipped, it'd give 1d4 to the weapons dmg roll, then give a separate 1d4 bludgeoning of it's own(when raging this also got the 2dmg bonus from berserker frenzy). so the dwarvern thrower as an example. if you're a dwarf (or disguised as dwarf) you get an extra 1d8 bludgeoning. This roll would get a 1d4 from the ring, along with the hammer's base 1d8 dmg roll. So, the ring would essentially give 3d4 dmg on this weapon when a dwarf threw it. the gloves of uninhibited kushigo did the same thing, so these two items were giving every throw of the dwarven thrower(from a dwarf) 6d4 dmg.

I’ve noticed a few different types of attacks on different characters seem to deal damage twice when they shouldn’t, like when I use dual wield hand crossbows. It feels like even if I only fire one crossbow it’ll show damage as if I’d fired both. Meanwhile only one bolt is visually fired and I didn’t have a bonus action to fire the second one anyway. It’s strange. I’ll take whatever I can get though, tactician is kicking my ass

@@spicey4522 It's firing your offhand shot at the same time as your mainhand shot, eating your bonus action in the process. I'm not sure if there's a way to disable that feature, but I noticed it happening when I played Jaheira with her dual scimitars.

I saw a lot of people recommending to get Giant Hill Str pots from the dwarf in underdark, but no one says anything about Ethel, she sells 3 pots that refresh 100% every time you refresh the inventories of vendors so if you want to get a few hundred pots and don't mind taking some time to rob the half-ling at the entrance of the groove then buying the pots from Ethel then resetting your level in camp. I usually end up at level 4 with Ethel still in the groove, so what I do is I go to Withers in camp, reset someone for 100 gold, go back to the groove, rob the half-ling guy, then go to Ethel, buy the pots, move my thief next to the half-ling , level up, then repeat from robbing the half-ling , until I get the character that I reset back to lvl 4 then I go back to camp and repeat from the start, in 20-30 minutes with good SoH I get a couple of stacks of pots off this whole thing.

You can start 16 strength, get 1 from auntie hair, 1 from tavern brawler, +2 from the strength potion in moonrise towers and then 2 from a feat to have 22. Later in act 3 you can do the mirror of loss to pump it to 24 and have the bloodlust elixir always on. Then when you get the 23 con neck you can dump con and put it all into dex. You'll have 24 strength with no elixirs and 16 dex. With haste you can attack like 8 times per round and just decimate the game. I think the only thing more OP in game is a full armor shield monk with end game gear where you can get to 24 str with no elixir, bloodlust elixir and 29 AC if you multiclass 1 cleric for shields and shield of faith on yourself.

just for the note, the dwarfish hammer is doing more damage than the trident with shapeshifter's boon ring and with lot of "large size" bosses in game. as well as it's single target, meaning no friendly fire and you can freely throw to enemies close to your allies for sneak attack. it's just, 1) if you don't have the shapeshifter helm, there's no way for Karlach to disguise to dwarf for free. 2) if for RP reason you don't like the look of dwarf there's a 3rd option, the dagger drop from Orin. but, 1) it's close to the end of the game when you meet Orin (well, if you play it properly, you can of cos go kill Orin first before you kill Gurlash and do other companions/side quests). The other 2 you can get at the start of act3 before you get into low city. 2) i think the vulnerable effect on the dagger is bugged or not working for throwing. without the effect it's doing much lower damage than the other 2. BTW, I think you can wield a shield with all of them and it won't affect the damage. They're all with the throw tag so as a matter of fact you don't even need to wield it to throw.

Even so enemies cry in pain and shit themselves at the first sight of Karlach knowing that her spear is going to penetrate them in most unpleasant ways. Busted build, tactician feels like a walk in the park with this, cleric tank, turret assassin and warlock-pal smite. Casually walked right into the middle of the goblin camp with my pal and cleric, positioned turret and spearthrower on high ground, basically autowin. And i even forgot that my cleric wasn't the light sub-class, she's been downed once by the raging gob boss, ragzlin or whatever his name was. Well he one shotted her, goddamn retard. Every build i use is from your channel, you're cool mate, thank you. I'm going to hit a like on every single video right now. P.S. holy shit dude you have quite a lot of videos. But nevertheless, liked all of them. Might have missed some cause my browser didn't like 30+ YT tabs open simultaneously and started lagging a bit but ultimately i think i covered all.

I'm playing a fighter spear throwing build with the eldritch knight subclass, it allows you to bind your weapon, you get the effect of the Returning pike but with any weapon and you can't be desarmed. So far I've used the "Vision of the absolute" spear in act I, really easy to recover and the blind effect is pretty great to control dangerous targets, then in act 2 I'm currently using the LightningJabber for the extra lightning damage.

Great... I am playing a throw barb and was theorycrafting a build that is basically the same as this... I wanted to make a guide about it, so I guess there is no point now :D I am level 6 at the moment, and the build I have now easily takes away over 50% HP with each attack from usual enemies (which is about 50% more than my regular melee attacks).

The sparkle hands gloves are superior for thrown builds because the game codes thrown attacks as unarmed attacks so you get the lightning charges. These gloves might be the best all the way from act one till credits screen. Also I think barb/thief is over hyped. The burst damage 4 times per long rest is nice, but with Eldritch knight/ war cleric you get another returning weapon (Weapon bond) and extra feat at level 6 and can actually concentrate on spells (unlike barbarian while raging). War cleric also provides similar but not as high of burst with its bonus action attacks per long rest as well as a number of strong buff concentration spells (crusaders mantle, magic weapon, etc). The spore Druid dip is very interesting and the dmg helps with sustain. Great video :) Oh also EK let’s you get Jump, movement increase, and feather fall all as rituals. As well as Shield !!! The best spell :)

There are gauntlets you can get that can permanently set your strength to 23, which is another way to get high strength and still use the bloodlust elixir, plus it lets you dump str once you've gotten it letting you shore up your other stats.

I will suggest also going fighter 4 for the weapon bond. That can open a lot of good throw weapons, like spears, tridents, axes, etc... and the possibility to use shields. Also lategame gives you an another weapon to use when you get a returning weapon, since you can juggle by just throwing them

Throwing is a bit of annoyance in A3 due to the curved trajectory of the thrown weapon, I personally respecced my thrower (Lae'zel) for a more standard BM fighter build at that point. Throwing was amazing in act 1 and 2, also in 3 if you can deal with the annoyance.

15:58 you can toggle the light effect of Nyrulna off and on. I found this out because the legendary bow that has a similar light effect was clashing with my covert cowl effect. You might have to go to your passive tab or drag it onto your car from the spell book menu

Good thing about throwing builds is that like range height adds a +2 but for thrown weapons it also adds damage. Just remember to throw potions at the feet of allies.

I'd go with the lightning on unarmed strikes gloves instead, since your hands are free when the weapon deals damage, game considers it an unarmed hit for some reason, at least for now they might be the best option. You should also be wearing a shield, only reason not to is to benefit from versatile property of the trident, which increases your damage dice from d6 to d8... which is just 1 damage loss compared to getting shield that gives you bonus to initiative for example.

Doesn't wearing a shield negate unarmored defense? I mean if you're wearing armor already it's fine, but if you're going armorless, I was under the impression that wearing a shield would nix your Dex+Con AC.

I guess I'll use Karlach with this build, and spec Laezel into your monk build to find out whether or not a throwing barb, or a monk does more damage for future playthroughs, because both of them really look like the highest single target damage builds in the game for now. Maybe I'll try an EK thrower build for laezel instead of a barb one and make Karlach the monk.

For those like me who had Gale gulp the Returning Pike, I suggest taking 3 levels into Fighter/Eldritch Knight to get the Weapon Bond. That way the weapon that you bond with will return to you. At least until the beginning of act 3 when you can get the next returning weapon. As always, this is a very interesting build. Thanks!

Pretty sure this is just unnecessary. Since the returning pike and the trident both already have the return feature, bonding them is only giving you the benefit of not being able to be disarmed. You're only getting the full benefit if you're throwing a weapon that doesn't have the returning property innately. Ultimately, I believe the feature is intended for an EK that is primarily a melee combatant, but wants to occasionally throw their weapon to deal damage to enemies that are too far away to reach in one turn.

In act 2 you can buy gloves from the Daamon the smith that does 1d4 of fire damage instead of the regular 1d4 damage. It gives you some more versatility in dealing with resistances and as it's the same damage you should just replace the act 1 gloves

@Hephaestus_God i believe it's because helldusk only adds the additional damage to your weapons inital damage and that's it. Kushigo is not limited to the weapon's damage because it states additional 1d4 damage with throw attacks so the extra 1d4 is added to your other extra damage tavern brawler. that's how I understand it from my brief testing

@noahbarfield5628 Yes, I believe Kushigo is best in slot for a throw build focused on stacking damage. Sparkle hands may have done similar damage pre patch #3, but after that patch lightning charges were nerfed only doing 1 point of extra lightning damage. Though if you could reliable stack up to x5 lightning charges maybe it could get similar damage. Still won't be as consistent as Kushigo since there's no setup required.

my first play through for bg3 was traven brawler just by looking at how broken the stats are. there are some really annoying downside. you can't start off a battle with surprise throw weapon, the weapon will not return. the game sometimes take 1 or 2 seconds for weapon to return to your hand. if you throw and end turn too fast, or battle begins the weapon does not return, even then sometimes the weapon will just not return randomly without any interruption. the Nyrulna is even worse, the weapon hit box is massive, its only usable in big open area. you cant even stand near a wall when the wall is behind you. The path of interruption is your biggest enemy. It was a huge dissapointment after rushing to get it in Act 3. I find myself using returning pike more than Nyrulna. in the end i just started a new playthrough lmao. To be honest i was a throw barb in the first play through, but then i respec into pure fighter or 11 figther / 1 cleric for much smoother game play. 3 attack per action, enough feats to pick alert.

An important note is that you can get karlach to 20 STR thanks to a potion from the Moon Rise Tower. All it requires is astarion, biting Arajs' neck and drinking her rank blood. It's rather unfortunate, it's not a random +2 to any stat instead of just being to strength.

Barb 3-4/Fighter 3-4/Thief 3/Paladin 2. • You get another fighting style from Paladin (Duelist, so you can melee with throw weapon and shield) and also Divine Smite. • You get pact weapon from Eldritch Knight, and a few more spell slots to fuel Divine Smite. • Thief's extra bonus action. •All the Barbarian goodness. Sounds good to me, but might be wrong.

This build is amazing in a vacuum but I've found that the aoe thunder explosion is a liability if you have other characters in melee range. Do you play this with mostly caster/ranged party or do you just deal with the explosion or target enemies far away?

I will be using the Gloves of Hill Giant Strength because. 1. Extra 3 str (23str vs 20str) because Tavern Brawlers adds strength modifier TWICE to the damage AND attack rolls, will equal more damage than a 1d6 roll. 2. I can respec my str to only base and pump it all into Constitution and others since the gloves boost it no matter where it is.

I find it almost scary how similar your build youre uploading are to my evolving setups. I started my monk 2 days before your monk upload and now after trying out throwing babarian yesterday you upload the throwbarian today. If your next upload is a Astarion build with the sniper feat and/or gloomstalker hybrid im calling the cyber cops.

If going Barb/Rogue/Fighter, I would do 4 fighter instead of rogue for the health. I was thinking of doing this build, but want to go 5 barb / 7 rogue. Give up action surge, 1 AC, and crit chance for evasion/uncanny dodge, expertise 2 skills, 3d6 sneak, cause you can sneak although unsure if thrown weapons count as sneak attack, maybe with a dagger or do a ranged attack. So get far away, hide instead of throw on a bonus action if you can.

Dwarven Thrower has the advantage if party members stand close to the target (6m AoE of Nyrulna is a lot). Fortunately you don't need to pick, just have both in the inventory ^^ Also I like to start the fight with Halberd of Vigilance for the +1 Ini

Another early game option for gloves is the sparkle hands. The throw attacks count as unarmed attacks so each throw gives 2 lightning charges, pairs pretty well with the lifebringer circlet for some extra hit points and damage.

I think i would go 3barb/3rogue/6champion, cause it gives you 2 feats still (if you need more than tavern brawler) and the lower crit number is crazy since we are stacking all this dice to double.

I don't know how it works with it auto equipping the trident when it returns, but a trident is a versatile weapon and can be one handed, so equipping a shield feels like a no brainer. Could also possibly work with another weapon if you pick up the two-weapon fighting feat at some point (If you can spare asi for it). Another thing you can do is put your first level into fighter instead of barbarian for heavy armor proficiency. I think that way you can get the same skill proficiencies and everything else and just heavy armor proficiency in addition, heavy armor will disable some of you movement bonus and things, but it's always good to have the choise. I'd also just add my opinion on action surge being more urgent than thief extra bonus action and you can get it earlier.

@@TheFlibidy It does not. It's only monks who don't get to use shields. Not only do Barbarians get to use shields, but can use medium armor without losing their speed bonuses or rage bonusesof course they don't get their unarmored defence then. But if medium armor is better ac, I don't see why you wouldn't wear it most of the time.

I am going this build but i went barb 1 into thief, and used hand xbows while I got past the first act. Drop dex to 8 and use the gloves to boost to 18, boost wisdom for perception expertise

i like the version with eldritch knight multiclassing with mage or something so we can cast haste and others usefuls spells. We can choose others weapons to throw cause we can bind weapons. And we also have acess to action surge.

It would appear that the problem with the Frenzied Throw is that it causes you to suffer a cumulative -1 to hit... which is quite the cost for a bonus-action attack. Maybe this was a change from an update?

Well with 20 Str and tavern brawler you have +10 to hit on your attacks, far more than anyone else is getting (most talents that are cornerstones for builds like GWM actually penalize attacks) so you have quite a bit of cushion to work with. Like 10 bonus throws before you're suffering the same drawbacks as GWM or Sharpshooter. It also resets after frenzy ends, it's not really that big of a deal.

Observation: Defense fighting style doesn't work if you're not wearing armor (and Karlach in your example isn't wearing armor, only clothing). I'd rather pick Archery for those rare occasions when you can't throw your weapon (such as when there's an obstruction) and need to make an attack with your ranged weapon.

@@Medic112 The reason why it's usually presented as 5 Barb / 4 Rogue / 3 Fighter is because that's the ideal order when leveling up, so that you can get your 2nd feat at lvl 9 instead of lvl 12. Ideally you would respec to Rogue 3 / Fighter 4 at lvl 12.

until a full guide is made, go with this start with 17 dex and whatever else you want for the other stats, dump strength, con is always good wisdom and int if you want to succeed in checks at level 3 pick either thief for sustained damage, or assassin for burst one off damage (I prefer thief, haven't tried trickster) at level 4 along with auntie ethel's hair you get to 20 dex and you're set after that go with 2 levels of ranger if you don't have fire resistance or 1 of fighter if you do, this gives you the two weapon fighting style at level 8 of rogue (10 if you went with ranger, 9 if you went with fighter) pick the dual wielder feat to be able to dual wield rapiers or the mobile feat which will free up your bonus actions when doing hit and runs, in theory mobile is safer dual wielder is on average 4 more damage per turn assuming you don't try to hit and run otherwise it's far less damage the ring of reckless attacks (or something) is great for this build so that you don't have to rely on others for sneak attacks, but you'll need some defences, so I recommend gnome (advantage on mental saving throws) or halfling (reroll bad saves 1/day) for races side note, don't use the sneack attack ...attack, activate the sneak attack reaction on your reactions without the prompt to ask, that way your character will automatically sneak attack when there is an opportunity to do so. on act 3 there is a rapier that makes it much better to play with 1h melee and off hand empty, if you go that way then change two weapon fighting for dueling and get the mobile feat.

Crusader's mantle requires concentration, so isn't that cloak kinda useless on a frenzying berserker? Edit: Same goes for haste from the bow, right?

Probabily lae'zel is the best starting charachter for this build , because misty step . More of that she will have a reason after lv 5 to get angry and at lv 8 she will trow a lot of weapons ...

interesting, when i first watched this i would assume you'd go fighter (EK) for both action surge and a bound weapon that returns to you when thrown.

Yeet. I personally prefer my karlach as... high risk ranger with that hat from act3 that gives you extra bonus action. 2d4 each attack per attack when making 5 attacks per turn adds up. High risk because she's constantly at 30%hp to get the extra bonus action from the helmet and her helfire engine without having to rage. I'd also keep her dex at 14 since that's all she needs to get most out of medium armour.(for your build ofc)

I took eldtrich knight as fighter sub class to bind Baldurian Giant Slayer but it does like 10 dmg when thrown xd Maybe I did something wrong but I'm kinda dissapointed it didn't work as I thought

There's actually a bug that happens often in combat with me. If you equip the Tyr great sword, buff yourself with it's shield of fate, and throw the returning spear (In combat only) you dont loose tyr's buff. And can change for whatever weapon after

I'm wondering if warlock's bonded weapon is worth it over action surge from fighter. You lose the extra action, but you can basically use any weapon on paper, though I don't know if there are huge damage differences on weapons unless height is involved.

Would there be any reason to dual wield throwing weapons? If not, what about Eld Knight instead of Champion? You lose the crit bonus, but you can then make any weapon bound to you, so it really opens up a lot of options...

I think the nicer version of this is Barb5/Rog3/EK4, which allows you to turn every thrown weapon into a returner and EK4 simply gets you more than Thief4. Obviously the big issue with the zerker barrelmancer is strain, so the usual aim of these builds is to allow you to use Enraged Throw as little as possible. I found it strange that you go in great detail for equipment but do not cover this much more important aspect of the build.

The thing I cannot play with is that enraged throw gives frenzied strain so I find myself always trying to avoid doing bonus attack if not absolutely necessary... I'm wondering if it's worth decreasing hit chance by 1 or more per turn. Maybe against a big boss but on average battle not. Still I think I would do Fighter 6/Rogue 3/Barbarian 3 even if bonus actions are mostly wasted.

I think the Tavern Brawler feat mitigates that a lot, at 20 STR you get a +10 to hit from the STR modifier. So you can frenzied throw six times and still have a normal +4 to hit - the same as if you just had 18 STR and didn't take the feat. With extra bonus actions from getting the rogue's thief subclass you can also end your rage to clear the penalty and rage again. The OP trident is also a +3 weapon (!!!) so your bonus to hit would still be higher than with a more usual +1 or +2 weapon. Haven't played this style yet, but with all that damage I'm guessing that most fights just won't last long enough for Karlach to suffer from 7+ stacks of frenzied strain. That would be round five of combat, where Karlach has made 5 attacks (rage, 4 throws with action surge, 1 frenzied throw) in round 1, then 4 attacks turn 2, then another 4 attacks turn three, and another 4 attacks on round 4 for 7 frenzied throws total. That's 17 attacks, and early ones are almost guaranteed to hit from the high attack bonus. Each is doing about 13-36 (average 24.5!!) so if those 17 attacks hit about 70% of the time (conservative estimate because that ring that gives you advantage should make your hit chance higher than that usually) then the expected value is about 292 damage. And that's just to the primary target! That damage and hit chance gets even higher with 27 STR and/or that OP bless staff (Mystra's Blessing) for +2d4 to hit.

I'm playing Karlach as Barb 5/Thief 3/Fighter 4. In my experience, after picking up Tavern Brawler, her chance to hit is so high already that the hit chance reduction from Frenzied Strain normally doesn't make any real difference until after the fight's over already anyway. This goes double if you can consistently give her Advantage, like through the Risky Ring you can buy at Moonrise in Act 2.

Nope, you should be able to throw them by default, but Tavern Brawler REALLY increases Throw damage & to hit chance!

would use giant STR gloves instead, that + the health amulet lets you respec and put CON and STR at 8 so you can have better DEX and mental stats. :)
