Hello friends, I made a pretty large mistake and I want to own up to it. The controversy surrounding colorblind mode took place in January of 2021 & I read it as January 2022. I didn't purposefully mislead anyone, but I got it wrong and that's my fault. I still stand by the video, as the entire controversy was a bad look and perfectly represents why so many are growing jaded with BHVR, but this was a major slip-up on my part. I sincerely apologize to all who I misled, though I reiterate once again that this WAS NOT intentional. As I mentioned elsewhere, I'm going to hold my research to a higher standard going forward. Much love

Does it really matter if it's literally been _an entire year_, and they've still not added it yet? If anything, I think that is the canvas upon which all the community's grievances are painted: The absolutely abysmally slow snail's pace that BHVR updates and releases content, is exactly that. Abysmal. Just about every other game studio of comparable size, and several far smaller, make better changes more quickly and in a more agile manner. I work in QA for a AAA games company, so perhaps this lends some merit to my words when I say that I understand how companies like this produce large amounts of professional content from the ground up, and I have absolutely no fucking clue what takes BHVR so fucking long.

At worst he bails on your game taking with chunk of fans with him, or he keeps playing while criticizing the company because they have no power over him and he has a perfect example and ammunition for them being petty. This achieves nothing but giving even more gasoline to your community whose general rhetoric already is that the developers do not understand their own game and are too arrogant to conceit that the current game state is bad. Dead by Daylight seriously needs to get a actual long term and legit competitor to light a fire under their ass, at this point they have managed to coax along sitting ontop of the genre simply because the competitors self imploded due to outside factors, and considering how hard they pushed for licenses i suspect they know its a matter of time before a superior game comes along. With licenses though regardless of the product quality, they can still dig into and retain users in a inferior product simply due to that exclusivity of "Well yeah X other game is more stable, plays better, and is generally more fun, but you cant play PINHEAD in it now can you". Its the video game equivalent of how inferior or bad streaming website hold the users hostage by have exclusivity rights to certain shows. They cant compete with a better product, but they can offer a specific product that they stop the better product from getting. Problem is, that can only carry you so far, especially if you spit in the face of your community while diminishing your own game health and 'fixing it' slower then molasses.

As a colorblind person, I can tell you it's FAR more complicated than 'just changing auras and hex values'. Scratch marks, blood, gens, aura's, the MIST, the CORN. All of it has to be changed in a way that works for individual types of colorblindness. Hell the basic-ass filters the game has NOW don't even work well. I had to play purely by sound when playing Killer because I couldn't see scratch marks or blood when chasing a survivor, even with the filter for my type of colorblindness set so high the entire color scheme of the game looked like hot ass. I've been playing DBD for about 3 years now and when I used to stream, it was my favorite game of all time, I couldn't ever get enough. It was honestly my idea of a perfect horror game that didn't take itself too seriously and tried to stay true to the content. After these years I agree with your statements, the main reason I don't play anymore and honestly refuse to play with friends who are playing it, is because I've grown to hate it. It's not because of the bugs here and there, not because of the long awaited buffs/nerfs, or the slow crawl of content; It's because of the developers and how they treat their fans and their game. They don't listen to feedback that the entire community is trying to tell them, such as SBMM or fun temporary game modes like 8 v 2, they just do what they want and believe it's the right choice simply, because it got them this far and they don't have strong enough competition. The community is toxic and I understand that, but I believe most of it is because of the passion they have for this game and they see it dying more and more after each update. Even though BHVR definitely doesn't like criticism, or even bother reading any kind of feedback, the issue is that they don't care. BHVR is the only game of its genre that has ever done well, and any competition it has ever had failed. They don't need to listen to feedback, they don't need to accept criticism, cause at the end of the day, they're the only option when it comes to the horror asymmetrical genre. It's like that South Park clip, with the cable company cables, and they don't need to change anything. If they had a solid competitor, then I'd agree that their game is a risk. Until then, they just don't really need to do anything. They can just continue to update their game with chapters, and add a ton of cosmetics to the game that you know a lot of people will buy and give them income. BHVR, and to an extent recent companies, have been doing this shit for a while. Ignoring the community when they provide important, game-saving advice or fixes, and implement half-fixes months later, as well as almost instantly banning innocent people instead of the actual problem. The meme of "BHVR fixes game in months, but bans innocent players in a week" rings too true, and it's stupid. Your game is dying, slow or fast, and it's the truth. Take a hiatus from releasing Chapters and fix the problems the game has, and not by band-aiding them with small "buffs" to things that need reworks and overhauls, and nerfing perfectly fine ideas or "fixing" them in the wrong way I live this game, but the Devs are acting like idiots. As for the point with one developer responding to one question somewhat rudely, I think it's unfair to apply his response to the entire DBD team. While yes, it might not be the best look for the devs, he could literally be the only one in a team of hundreds of employees that thinks like this. *Always* give people the benefit of the doubt. About Dowsey, while he does probably also provide some positive feedback, it's heavily outweighed by negative one (I personally only see some of his content on twitter or in KZitem recommendations, and imo, that's the content that counts because it's shown to a wider audience. And that content - from what I can see - is mostly negative. I will of course give him the benefit of the doubt and say it's not all like that, but again, it's what reaches a wide audience that matters, because it will influence people's opinions) More negative than positive in of itself isn't too big of a problem, but the way you present feedback is extremely important. From what I can see, he doesn't do it in a constructive way, but instead in a destructive and often even rude manner. If somebody constantly gives me negative feedback and never even compliment what I do well, and *also* is rude to me, I'm not gonna like them either. I'm sure Behavior appreciates feedback, but this community has a tendency to be overly toxic and as the developers, I wouldn't want to reward this kind of behavior either. Coming from Overwatch especially, the devs seem to really care about the game, put tons of effort into it and try to make it the most balanced and fun it can be. We get regular updates and new content, fun events and the game is mostly balanced. Not enough people appreciate that and I think content creators especially should be a role model, not feed into the hate.

I like your content, very good, also your points are very unbiased and just your thoughts. I love DbD and my thoughts on all of this is yeah we all complain about the issues dbd has but end of the day we love the game design, characters, Lore. I think our main issues are balance and how buggy patches are. Dowsey has a point about the devs don't understand the game cause going with kills doesn't mean skill. My example is face camping with bubba for two kills and does that make me more skilled then a clown who goes for 8 hooks and by how I see the game, the enitiy wants pain and suffering so I would assume the game should based on hooks since that causes more pain why moris don't give as much of points for the emblem system. An example of me being a bit critical and I will admit it was when I was upset cause billy was nerfed. Billy is considered blight in his old state. High skill high reward but beatable unlike nurse or spirit and very fun and engaging. He doesn't suffer from core game flaws and honestly hitting curves or chainsaws are satisfying. It is actually pvp of who is better. Billy mechanics like curving, chainsaw faking, body blocking, zoning. Etc. Billy's pvp gameplay is like huntress and huntress is normally refered as a very good killer design. Other than her hit boxes. It is the skill and knowledge of the players. Billy is simple as a starter but becomes more hard to play at high ranks when players understand how to counter you. Billy's overheat removed the fun and added more skill to a killer that already considered one of the most skilled based killers at the time. I even say billy is more skilled than nurse. Cause billy players are some of the best chasing killers cause billy still has to endure all pallets and windows. He doesn't completly remove options survivors has like nurse does. Billy was nurse and spirit should be in design
@DasFood

Thanks for the kind words! And you make a good point, Billy & Huntress are both very important killers for the game’s health. Both require lots of skill to play well and can absolutely be outplayed. That said, great Huntresses & Hillbillies are TERRIFYING.

Played a couple of games yesterday, and almost lost my composure due to the unresponsiveness of the interactables in the game, like pallets and windows. The former, because the 'E' prompt doesn't pop up _while I'm standing right next to it,_ and the latter, because even while running _the vault will be the slowest one,_ as opposed to the fast vault we're supposed to do. Result: downed, hooked and then camped by a Leatherface (seriously, why is this trash killer even in the game?), because of course he would.

So despite you being incorrect on when the color-blind thing happened, it's still important to remember just how utterly callous they were towards the subject. It needs to be pointed out, this wasn't a subject about the game that was a month, or even a few months happening: This was a topic for the game for LITERAL YEARS. It was something that was known in the community as a massive issue for a portion of the playerbase, the community kept asking for it, and then we get someone asking one of the Devs directly and that was the answer we received. To say that there was backlash in the community is putting it lightly; about 2 days later BHVR itself had to make an official statement detailing how it was coming in the next patch. It was THAT bad. But that isn't the only time this Dev Team hasn't done stuff that just makes no sense; aside from how they said Dowsey was doing 'targeted harassment' towards Patrick by mocking what Patrick said (which was a really stupid comparison). They removed the Fog Whisperer from both TruTalent and Morf from making weird (note: high pitch) voices about people they were dealing with, saying that both of them were mocking the mentally handicapped. So it has lead to this whole thing of having to 'walk on eggshells' for the Devs. They ignore the Fog Whisperers and the Community at large when it comes to problematic perks (The recently buffed Deadman's Switch was an issue Otz complained about during the PTB, which they didn't address and still haven't addressed), which caused him some real irritation in that they just...ignore anything that might be helpful. On top of that, they had the incredibly buggy release of the Twins, which required two massive bug patches before they went on Christmas Vacation that year...but for some reason opted to put a last minute change to the Moris in those bug patches. Yeah, while the game was in a nearly unplayable state around Christmas 2020, they were making tweaks and changes that could've waited. They said a change to Keys was coming in....and it took almost a year. So this was frustrating to Killers who had their 'easy win' item removed, while Survivors got to keep theirs. When BOTH changes should've happened TOGETHER. Never mind how botched the RE chapter in June was; which was when they had their biggest playercount ever. But the issues with the RPD map were numerous, and kept the map out of normal rotation for almost 2 months (and even now, the RPD doesn't follow regular hatch rules that it follows on any other given map...). So the playerbase has been slowly shrinking ever since. Their buggy patches and their attitude towards the community has had a bit of a chilling effect, and people have left for greener pastures because they got fed up with it. BHVR needs to wake the hell up and stop it, or they're going to be like the F13 game or anything else the moment something else even remotely popular comes along.

the parent analogy is perfection, nevada. the idea that behavior would foist its bad behavior (as is implied by Ethan's attitude regarding colorblindness) onto its kids is classic projection and something terrible parents do. "look what you made me do" type shit. it's abusive when parents do it, but when it's a developer people still dont like it. behavior has spent *years* ignoring their player base, only taking criticisms if they could no longer ignore them or endure the heat from ignoring them, and continue to demonstrate in Q&A streams and other forms of PR media that they simply do not care about their players or their opinions. this is their house (game) dammit, and as long as youre under their roof you have to obey. real shitty. i kinda dont play DBD anymore. i used to be a somewhat active survivor and killer, though i find the way killer plays so intensely stressful and unrewarding that i hardly ever play it (a real shame because i love the idea of playing a slasher villain) but the consistency with which BHVR ignores big critical voices in their community (big because their ideas are popular) is a giant red flag. if you dont listen to the people who play the game, who paid for it, who invested in it, not as a parent, but as a friend, how can you possibly consider those friends allies to your goal of raising a good kid(game)? ultimately, the thing that kills me is that DBD is what happens when the power roles of a slasher film are reversed. it is the victims who have the upper hand. imagine if Jason Voorhees spent the whole movie getting blinded, pallet stunned, and looped, before all the counselors lived. the movies would suck massive chode. we wouldnt watch that. why are we playing that? BHVR needs to realize what they are doing to their game. they need to watch Hatchet.

Dbd isn't on it's worst balance spot right now, there is such a big roaster full of iconic killers and survivors, and has a unique kind of gameplay. What holds you far from it? For me(even if i play frequently) it's not the community as toxic as can be, the bugs or mean stragies and gameplay. It's the fact that most people in the community loves, worry and care more about Dbd that its own devs. KZitemrs and content creators make a lot, A LOT, of videos talking about the game health, what could be improve or implemented with very precise descriptions. And takes them a long time changing a number from 1 to 2. We get that their code is a mess, but their attitude and how they deal with the community creates this enviroment of "if you don't listen i'll shout you, if you shout us we don't listen"

That quote wasn't EXACTLY word for word what the dev said but it was...what he said. The fact they took that as an insult proves to me how insecure and in a bubble the devs are. They're doubling down and not trying to recognize why that was wrong or empathize with their fan base. If a playful jab makes them feel insulted I can't imagine what a hateful comment makes them think.

This whole scenario reminds me of a card game I used to play before Covid called magic the gathering. Idk if you’ve heard of it before but it went down the same exact path dbd is going down and I hate to see it. The power creep of both games caused a stale meta of only a few builds or in mtgs case only a few decks being viable in competitive environments and it made everyone sickly bored of playing them because it wasn’t fun and it was the same generic gameplay they’ve had for the past months and arguably years. They never listened to their main player based and only wanted to focus on a very vocal but small minority who just whines and complains about everything and they just say screw it we’re not doing anything about it anymore and instead just kept adding more and more busted stuff and sent the game into a spiraling doomsday where pretty much everyone agreed that a lot of things are very wrong and need to be changed but because of the constant feedback they kept getting before they still didn’t do anything. Ultimately leading to tens of thousands of people quitting and leaving the game if not for good for a good year or 2 minimum. I just hate seeing this all over again like a bad dream with both of them being things I used to love playing.

I find that MtG is what you make of it in a big way. The problem is less WotC and more of their parent company Hasbro iron-gripping the decisions. Recently I've been enjoying EDH, because that's the only format that isn't dead as dirt, but I'll be damned, WotC somehow, without hasbro knowing that they were putting some mid value cards into the decks, made prebuilt EDH decks cost effective and able to preform well. Mine actually came with all the standard fixings for the format, including the 2$ Sol Ring and $4 Thran Dyanmo, plus some valuable cards specific to my deck in the form of the 6$ Strionic Resonator and the 10$ Seedborn Muse. All in all I spent 45$ at my LGS for the pack, and buying the cards online separately would have set me back nearly thirty dollars more then that, so they seem to have some actual, genuine value in them. Mind you, I pretty much never beat the 1200$ custom made decks at the table, and I literally cannot play against the 2000$+ decks. But when I did play a match, I was never the first guy out. If you want my advice if you want to play MTG in the modern day, Draft Kamigawa Neon Dynasty or another 4$-per-pack set if you have some school or work friends, Draft keeps it fair between players so it's great for a small group of mates. Otherwise buy an EDH Prebuilt to join in for EDH games at your LGS.

Stuff like this is why I, despite buying the game and all of the killers in it, almost immediately uninstalled the game after making said purchases despite how much it costed. Behavior can keep that money, but I'm just done with the game. I'd rather focus on games like VHS and Identity V that actually deserve to be successful and have devs that not only listen to their player bases, but don't have a toxic "Us vs Them" mentality when it comes to the player base...which, slight tangent, I'm aware, but might I add that it is becoming more and more obvious that Behavior is actually scared of VHS coming out based on the sheer amount of "coincidences" surrounding the two games? For example, Behavior just so happened to have a Blood Moon out of nowhere on VHS's launch week, but only for the weekend when the game temporarily went into Open Beta.

DBD wouldn't get so much shit, if they would at least address and update things that take NO TIME AT ALL to implement. They could in their own power, walk in at 8am, do a very basic update or tweak with no risk to bugs, and finish before lunch. They just don't. It's not important to them. If it takes you forever to do anything important, AT LEAST do what can be done right now. Just looks like an abusive relationship at this point. Like that one episode of South Park and the cable company.

The responses from behavior can be seen as slightly justified based from the response that they receive from the community at all times, there’s a larger group of people showcasing the bad compared to the people showcasing the good in the game, if you were a singular person working on a slightly big game with a normal sized group of other people working on the game, and people personally go to a form of communication like a twitch chat or personal Twitter account, and multiple people continuously say looked down upon things for the stuff that you created for a game or they continuously ask for a specific thing to be added to the game (although you really have barely any say on the matter), it gets on your nerves. With the amount of attack the community has built for the devs of this game is crazy, so when a dev makes a somewhat aggravated response to the person, in a personal area or a place distanced from the entire team, it shouldn’t be used as a showcase of ‘oh this company hates the fans when they show flaws in their games! Add this to the list of comments to be made in every single public post they make!’ situation, of course I’m probably making no sense or anything like that, I’m very new to DBD’s community stuff, but I do have the bare minimum of past issues of the game, so I hope that serves enough for this.

BHVR's attitude is a big reason I take time away from DBD and play other games. It's not that I hate the game itself it's simply due to the dev's not wanting to listen more to what the community is saying will help the game be accessible to more players. They don't seem like they care at all about the fanbase and that really doesn't sit well with me. When Cyberpunk77 released it was a buggy mess, and yet CDProjekt took the time to send out patches until the game was in a more stable state. They did this because they care about their fanbase and don't want to drive them away. BHVR is basically doing the exact OPPOSITE and people wonder where the player base has gone. All BHVR seems to care about is money and a majority of players (myself included) are just tired of the dev's not wanting to listen. I hope that one day they pull their heads out of their asses and make the game a little less buggy and a bit more playable for the WHOLE playerbase. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

Honestly we need a new Dbd, cut this dead weight and find a new type of devs that care about their players

For sure. The core concept is amazing - as is the community - but the execution has been terrible for years now.

I like the game but they need devs that actually care and will actually fix things. Also they never thought dbd would actually blow up so it’s been running on spaggetti noodle coding since the beginning and because of that the anti-cheats are terrible. If they wanted to do something they’d have to remake everything

It's one game for a game to be frustrating to play, but when the devs are complacent and aggressively so about it? Literally what is the point of playing? That is why this game is losing players. The game is one thing, but people are quitting because the devs are downright unlikable and are OWNING their stupid Behavior with pride. Who the fuck wants to support people openly insulting their intelligence?

You’re on to something there. DBD has been buggy & unbalanced for years, but people are only now getting to a boiling point because the devs have become outwardly hostile (not all of them, of course!).

I had 1.5k plus hours in dbd when I stopped playing and honestly the only reason the ship hasn't sunk yet is because they have a monopoly on the genre of the game, its the only game of its kind so it is what it is.

I think a big take-away from all of this, is that the DBD devs are immature, and unprepared to handle a game of this size and the responsibility that comes with it. When it launched it was just a handful of killers, four survivors and perks that quite honestly were easy enough to balance out, but now we stand at a point in time with 27 killers, 197 perks and counting. I doubt they had any idea that the game would explode into what it is today, but that doesn't excuse their response to extremely justifiable criticism or fans asking innocent questions. As for color-blind mode, it should have been available at launch, and the fact that it's taken 6 years to add is just ridiculous.

In answer to your question in the description: no. A fish rots from the head down. I don't see new leadership in any of their important departments coming in any time soon. So no.
