Temptation is when we are drawn in any direction away from God. We then must decide whether we will turn away from God to follow its call or keep our focus on God.
In the Old Testament, we will examine how David chose to pursue his own power at the expense of others. By counting the fighting men of Israel, he was calculating how many soldiers' lives he was willing to lose in that pursuit. When his actions resulted in a plague that killed 70,000 people, David realized that he didn't want anyone else to die for his ambitions.
In the New Testament, we explore the temptation of Jesus Christ by the devil. We see that Jesus was not interested in pursuing his own power at the expense of our lives, but instead chose to submit his will to the Father's to save us all. We learn from his instructions to his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane that the way to avoid falling to temptation is to pray.
This is another episode in the series entitled, "Who Is Jesus Christ, and Why Do I Need Him?" Join father and son, Timothy and Caleb, as they explore the books of the Old Testament to discover the main attribute of God revealed in each. Then listen as they survey the New Testament to see how Jesus Christ exemplifies each attribute in his person.
