Another great videoI I love this series! What stood out the most to me is that Joseph recognized his brothers but they didn't recognize him. That reminds me of Jesus. Because Jesus sees who we are long before we see who He is. SO GOOD!

Joseph understood his dreams were being fulfilled. He was seeing if his brothers had changed so they had to leave one brother behind and get one brother dear to his father. He cried out of their sight. He hoped they had changed. He gave them their silver back and this shows his mercy for them. The distress they felt was part of their test.

About the interpreter: Joseph pretended to need an interpreter because he was supposed to be Egyptian (they speak Arabic). His brothers didn't know he was Joseph and that he could actually understand their language (Hebrew).

Comparison is definitely a thief of joy. I love that you mentioned that and your hunger for learning really helps to bring thought to my readings. You are such a light. I love you 💙🫶🏾

What I wrote in my journal goes in two topics. The first topic is what Joseph did for his brothers after they left Simeon. When he gave them back their silver, I think that was him showing love towards his brothers. Because although they hurt him and he is angry, they’re also his family and he loves them. That was possibly his way of loving and forgiving his family.

The second part of my topic is for Reuben. I feel that as the oldest, his seem as a father figure for some of his brothers because it just seems that Jacob and the rest of his sons do not get along. Which is possibly the reason why Reuben stayed to protect and make sure his brothers were good. And because he learned from his past he doesn’t want the same mistake to happen to Ben which is why he is willing to put his own kids on the line. To protect his brothers.

Both are good points! Reuben had a sense of responsibility over his brothers

Oh so good. I really feel for Jacob, he had loved Rachel so much, been cheated out of his relationship with her for many years as he toiled and was tricked into taking her sister. She must have been the love of his life, losing one of their 2 precious sons was such a blow he didn't feel he could survive another. It's sad that he never connected with the others this way, perhaps because of how those relationships started ie their mother. A lesson that we should never judge anyone based on the behavior others. Those boys might have even been better men had their father treated them as well as Joseph and Benjamin! Interesting to think on! Thank you xxoo

hi thank you! when I was younger, I was mean to these two kids who now that I look at it were hurt from family separating, but I was annoyed by them and would never show them my kindness. I don't know why I was only mean to them but nice to everyone else. Anyways, I have prayed for them and hoping I can reach them one day to apologize. I know God has forgiven me, which man his grace is nice. It just hurts to know I could've impacted them for the better. Ty for this video!❤

I was thinking maybe Joseph was acting like this toward his brothers because God was guiding and directing him. I think Joseph really loved his brothers but he wanted them to repent for what they had done. I don’t know, just a thought. Again, this chapter sovereignty of God. Jacob is in so much 😩. I wonder if he is going to let Benjamin go? 🤔

I know right! I honestly didn't expect Joseph to have that much restraint and not tell his brothers who he really was

You're right. Joseph wanted to see if their hearts had changed before he revealed himself.

My study bibles say that it’s possible Joseph (or God through Joseph) was testing the brothers to see if they had changed or were still going to be deceitful and selfish.

Thank you for doing these bible studies. I am confused about something. Why did Joseph have an interpretter? Did he possibly forget the language he grew up with?
@Lmay1787

He didn't forget the language. He was pretending to be Egyptian so his brother's wouldn't recognize him easily.

I think he did show mercy but in a way he needed a little pay back even after he did show them grace when it came to giving their money back and food

Nothing to do with Joseph having grace. It is to show us that we will be tested to discern for ourselves if we have reconciled our ways and are ready for redemption.
