Bifacials unlock solar in cloudy areas. Been researching and testing this for ages now. On avg, tested on a mini grid up to the second changes with victron BT equipment. About 25% of rated, so ex from a 445w about 110-150w, ground mounted, less on the rooftop. Bifacials are the best. Heavier but if thats a shipping and labor cost best the payback is just a few months, so worth it.

I wonder if you put mirrors behind the bi facial panel how many watts it would produce. I just ordered some 440 watt bifacials and im super excited. Bifacials are great for ground mount, which is what im going to do. It'll be interesting this winter when there's snow on the ground on a cold clear high pressure day

Not sure I really understand this. So are saying for an extra 1.5% extra power one should and buy more expensive solar panles??? I think you need to compare the cost of the two types of panels so we can make a better informed decision. Depending on how much more expensive the bifacial panels are I would honestly stick with the monos.

Most of the people I help are off grid which makes a bigger difference. Also bi facial panels don’t typically cost any more than a mono facial at this point.

@@BeeneEnergy Thank you for your reply. I am currently living off grid and would like to add to my current solar array. Cost of the system is a real big deal for me. If the bifacial panels are not more expensive then it's a no brainer. Thanks again for pointing that out

Question. I’m mounting a bi-facial panel and want a background panel made from corrugated steel. Should I go with a galvanized panel or w white panel? Which will give me the best reflection producing the most wattage?

Very interesting. I know ow we've talked about this but in my experience, flat panels Perform better in overcast. I'm wondering if this applies to thr bifacials as well. BF flat versus angled BF vs flat mono.

You mean that 0 angle is better than guessing where the sun actually is on overcast days? That would go along with solar trackers pointing at a white wall instead of the sun on cloudy days. Ha ha

Have you tested flat with BF because if you put a bifacial flat it doesn't get any light or reflected light to the backside it defeats the purpose of it being bifacial. If you're saying you've tested a bifacial flat and it does better than lifted I'd be interested in seeing the proof. All testing has shown that bifacial should be 90 degrees to catch all available light.

@debidee5548

The bifacial has to be lifted so that the Sun and reflected Sun can get to the backside. If you put it flat on a roof it's the same as mono. The best position for a bifacial is 90°

Ok sure but extrapolated out to a 10kw array that’s 325 watts mono facial or 495 watts bi facial. For grid tie no it doesn’t make a difference as they both stink but off grid that might mean the difference in 1kwh of production for the day.
