We visit Big Bell ghost town 30km west of Cue on the Great Northern Highway, Associated with the Big Bell goldmine from 1935-1955 the town had a population of 800, with modern services, the pub/hotel, picture theatre, shops, school, churches and more. With fatalities at the mine and the harshness of life out here its a palpable feeling of desolation and despair as you walk around what remains of the town. With a few buildings still remaining its a fascinating place to spend an hour or two and experience just a little bit of what it must have been like to live and work here.
Well worth a visit and easily accessible from Cue.
No facilities exist so BYO drinks, chairs and shade.
