i was cool with the way this season was going, right up until the point where jag won hoh twice in a row. The power had been constantly shifting back and forth and the gameplay was very fluid. But then Jag was allowed to win hoh twice. Then it was a complete steamroll. Had that not happened, Cirie was the closest to winning hoh, and she would have put up Matt and Jag, Jag would have saved himself Bowie Jane would go up, amd Matt would have probably gone home, Bowie Jane would have won Next Week's Hoh, putting the power back into the hands of that duo, and getting rid of Matt. Felicia actually managed to be second place in the double eviction veto behind Matt, so Any of Blue America Cirie or even Jag could have gone. But instead we got a steamroll at the end which was SO dissappointing

@definingmoments7
8 ай бұрын
"matt has been the better player this whole entire time" is flat out incorrect. jag has been the decisionmaker and comp winner of the duo for like 65/100 days. majority of the people on the jury were closer to jag (blue/cory/america/bowie) speaking to his better social game - he straight up betrayed/took out cam using bowie's hoh - took out cory - then blue - then america - then cire (who was key to matt's game) - then felicia - then bowie - and still had a good relationship with them/owned up to his game for them to happily vote for him over matt
@iambeanss
8 ай бұрын
I disagree, being the person to win the comps does not mean you were the person pulling the strings, round after round, vote after vote, Matt was the one convincing jag what to do, when Cameron left, Matt convinced Jag, who both then convinced Bowie, when Cory left, Matt pushed Jag to do it, Blue was the target the whole time, America was Bowie blindly following the duo, I’ll give you Cirie and I think that’s a key factor to Jag’s win, but that is one out of the first 5 jurors. And then Jag took Matt to the end THINKING he was gonna lose and he said that himself. I just don’t agree with giving Jag all of this credit aside from winning all the endgame comps and was literally unable to be voted out, which he certainly would’ve if one comp didn’t go his way

Halfway though the season I saw BBUK was starting up. I’d never seen it. I was aware that the format is completely different..there isn’t really a strategy game, in fact it’s very frowned upon and the “live feeds” are shrunk down to a 3-5 hour stream every night. But BB25 was making me miserable, Izzy was gone, zombie week had just happened and the house was turning into the Mojo Dojo Casa House.. so I decided to give it a shot. AND holy shit. Just a complete breath of fresh air. I thought I would miss the feeds, the strategy part of the game, but no. I could literally write like a whole thesis about it. But the diversity was amazing, the fact that EVERYONE could equally participate in all the activities was great (there wwas a houseguest that uses a mobility scooter), the “showmance” is better than a fricken romance movie (I don’t even want to call it a showmance because they’re still together.) And then there’s Yinrun, literally the purest soul alive. BBUK was infinitely better than BB25 this year and I will die on that hill lol.

Survivor 38 broke my Survivor fandom. I was already growing frustrated at the new-school game and the growing emphasis on idols, and especially the F4 firemaking (which killed the one "pure" round of Survivor there used to be). But Devens running through the season while not doing much socially/strategically, and everyone hyping him up as if he was the only person playing the game, was draining. I was waiting for him to inevitably win (as everyone who was reading the edit thought) and was dreading how much his winning game would be hyped, to the detriment of people who play socially like Lauren or Victoria on that season. Instead, when I went to watch the finale I accidentally spoiled myself by starting the reunion first. And I was absolutely dumbfounded when I saw that Chris won a million dollars, and literally wondered if he might have won $1M in some alternate way other than winning the game. It was so incomprehensible to me that he could have won the game, and the more I went to watch the finale, the more frustrated I became. Chris got to go straight from the third boot to the final 6, and as if that weren't enough, a (split) idol handed to him by production. He was literally _greeting_ people for the first time, in a scenario where there only three rounds left until the final tribal council. The final 5 round had no genuine element of strategy, but instead had a tribal where literally everybody tried to play an idol, and the only thing that mattered was whose idols were real and whose weren't. Lauren wasn't voted out by a majority, but the social game had been so buried by the idol-game that it was an afterthought which people barely even noticed. Then we had the final firemaking challenge, for a million dollars, between not one but _two_ people who had previously been voted out. They had to have it in a new location (near the voting booth I think), which to me just underscored the absurdity of it. The final tribal council also really frustrated me; the fate of the finalists was in the hands of other people who had _lived with_ Chris, and who also had the same opportunity to come back into the game, inevitably biasing them towards thinking his game was legitimate. The "game was not on trial", even though what you thought of Chris' game was inevitably going to be tied into what you thought of someone who played 1/3 of the game being able to win. With all of that said, I got through season 39 but sort of half-heartedly, and I naturally did come back excited for season 40. But with the lull between 40 and 41, I've never really found it valuable to go and dig into the new era. I really don't like the modern game, and I've grown dissatisfied with the lack of feeds to give us all the information anyway, so I just haven't felt that it's worth it. On that note, I wonder what the long-term implications of BB25 will be for me. On one level, you can say that Jag's win isn't as bad as Chris' win, because Chris skipped _so many_ rounds of gameplay, while Jag didn't skip any, and his twist really wasn't that different from many other twists, which saved people who otherwise would have been eliminated (like America's Player saving Evel Dick, or the Backstage twist saving Taylor, or numerous cancelled evictions and other twists saving people throughout history). But on the other hand, what I've seen from Jag's gameplay in the early-to-middle weeks (4 through 6) was so horrendous that it makes me start to put this win, and by extension this season, into the "joke" category, from a different angle than Survivor 38. Similar to how I'd previously felt that Survivor had been ruined by the emphasis on Big Moves and idols, Big Brother might similarly be ruined by the emphasis on brute-forcing your way to the end (by predictable competitions, this time, rather than idols). I've noticed that the runtime and production focus on competitions has ramped up, and especially with Reindeer Games coming I wonder if BB isn't trending in a direction where they want comps to take up most of the emphasis on an episode-by-episode basis. I'm interested in Big Brother insofar as it's a social game, with comps just being a complementary side-piece which facilitates the social game. Unfortunately, production might be feeling that Big Brother is primarily a show about competitions (and wacky punishments etc.), with the social game just being the extra condiment stashed on top. I'm not sure if I'm broken the way I was broken after Survivor 38, but if the trend continues I might be broken sooner rather than later. We've had 4 comp-beast men as our winners in the last 5 seasons, with Taylor being the sole exception (and even her season was dominated by Michael and then Monte). If this happens two, three more times in a row, is there really much value in continuing to watch?
