I can't believe that 2 hours ago I had never heard of this band, or seen the film " Restless natives ". .. Came on TV on a little watched free channel, I gave it a chance as I read that Bernard Hill was in it .. what a scream, laughed my arse off ... then this song came on .. and BOOM, I had to know who this was. And here I am, unreal music, fantastic voice, what a band ! I've not only found my way . .. I've found treasure.

What a fantastic film and what memories of Big Country! This takes me back to the good old days when i was young and at high school.delivering milk in the mornings for a living and so care free and i could laugh and be happy with friends. 30 yrs later and im working 12 hr shifts 5 days a week and hoping for overtime on a saturday to make ends meet and wishing i was a kid again watching restless natives in my parents house on the philips vcr and gregorys girl to follow. Sigh.....

Fred stone 6 months ago you wrote this! I hope that your hard work though all these years has paid off! Remember that the years you have spent working do not define who you are and or the life that you have led! I hope that in all these years you were a good husband and father! Loved all who were there and defined your childens lives. We are all put her e to fulfill a purpose! Yours may have been to be a good man, father, husband, etc!! I hope so! then your life would have meaning! I'm sure it has. Be content and love the people in your life!

Fred stone Fred, I hope that your hard work pays off! I too have been working long hours, while praying hard that it will one day pay off. I suppose that historians will one day call this the era of the labor market distorted by 2 billion Chinese and Indian workers flooding the market. Or maybe the era of capital taking workers for granted? Or maybe the era before mining asteroids brought unparalleled economic growth to this planet? Time will tell.

Anfernee LeZagney hi. I read your comment. You mentioned working hard and you work long hours. Question - why are you not getting paid correctly for your time and energy at work? Instead of blaming foreigners - how about QUESTIONING your bosses who pay you pittance? Sweet blessings. Mr pecker decker.

As fabulous and ridiculous film as any I have ever seen- just brilliant in every way. And the soundtrack is, of course, a joy. In a pathetic attempt to recapture my youth, I still go and see BC, but it's just not the same. Has there ever been someone so talented, such a poet and lyricist, who has been taken from us in the most distressing and disappointing way, who perhaps never understood the love so many, including me, had for him? RIP, Stuart.

Reared by the matriarchs of his family, he was taught to champion the oppressed and downtrodden and he lived up to that core value and kept those people always in his heart when he wrote. Unlike so many others who forgot the oppressed after making it big, he did not. The true artist believes in the small man and woman because art without advocacy is merely marketing, materialistic and empty. Never forget, he viewed himself as a loud folk musician. That means his was a social justice message, always and forever. By all that is humane and lovingly-kind, thank you Stu and thank you to the amazing folk that reared and nurtured such a global treasure as your lessons reverberate to this moment, even an ocean away.

@@frankstared . That was so well written. I, a 38 year old English guy, haven't heard of this band before, until 2 hours ago, a film came on TV ... you know it .. " restless natives " I hadn't seen before either, I noticed Bernard Hill's name in the description, I thought give this a go, laughed my arse off, heard the song come on, heard the singers voice, the lyrics etc I thought ey up, that's a bit of me alright, I love the levelers, and plenty of 60's 70's and bit of 80's music ... And here I am, and so glad, now I can look into their other songs now. What was Stuart's demise ? I keep reading about the tragic loss in awful circumstances but don't know what happened yet, anyway I'll best Google Search it I guess.

Brilliant and beautiful! I also like the film, although it is sometimes hard to understand for me without Dutch subtitles… I have good memories to Scotland. In 2002 we went there on holiday. We cycled through the Highlands and camped (Rosyth - Dunfermline - Stirling - Loch Lomond - Inverary - Oban - Lochgilphead - Lochranza - Ardrossan - Glasgow - Edinburgh). At that moment I did not knew that Big Country started in Dunfermline… And I also did not knew of the movie Restless Natives.

I think that melody from 9.10-10.30 was Adamson's finest moment on the e-bow. Maybe someday some musicians will take up what this band did in their early days with e-bows & electric guitars and either do new music or arrange old Celtic airs with a similar approach.

Now on Netflix at last. A really good transfer too. I've seen it umpteen times already but just watched it 2 days in a row in this new transfer - you've never seen it look so good unless you saw it in a movie theatre. Notice how in the end credits it says "soundtrack available on Mercury records". My friend Darren had it on order and would head into Sheffield every week for months to see if it had arrived yet - it was planned for release as an album but never came out until this CD collection. It needs a full album release. It's the best thing BC ever did.
