I jus' luv' dis' type of dozer work! I grew up on ranch that needed grubbing of thick under brush and rocks. A good running CAT dozer makes a smooth & steady sound even when it's digging into the ground or pushing heavy materials.

I grew up on a ranch, and my first experience on a dozer was when my uncle put me right next to him on the tool-box, and his words to me was "watch & learn".......well, I did "watch & learn" and that was when I was like 12yrs.old. Today I'm 63yrs.old, and a retired Construction Fleet Operations Supervisor and I wish my uncle was alive today, so he could've seen my career accomplishments, and it was all because of him!...I miss him so dearly, if it wasn't for him to be hard on me at times, I would've been just a regular ranch-hand, not saying it's bad, but, he thought that I could accomplish & further a career that would've been beneficially for me on the long-road in life.

Impressive looking older Cat D9G clearing land. Yes, the smell of freshly-bulldozed earth takes me way back to childhood on the farm, dad and his John Deere.
@tyvole2387

I don't know if it's a generic thing or just peculiar to my own childhood memory. When I was watching this clip, it immediately brought to mind the very special smell of freshly-bulldozed earth... there is no similar association with the smell of other disturbed earth, such as excavated foundation trenches etc. Perhaps it simply related to the local site surface vegetation, but nevertheless, quite a strange yet happy experience, sitting here in my study 50 years later!

Nice to see some old iron at work. This particular dozer has always made me feel nervous. Perhaps it's the fact that it was showcased as the evil machine in the cult classic movie, "Killdozer". Starring Clint Walker. Which, by the way, is available here on youtube. The D9 was big, but is rather poultry sitting along side it's much larger cousin, the D11T. Still, the D9 in this configuration, is very intimidating.......🔧🔧

@DeathHead1358

The whole premise of the high track design was to keep the drive sprocket out of all the dirt, sand, rocks, and such, thus reducing wear. Granted, as you said, the design cut down on the surface area of the drive sprocket in contact with the track itself. I believe that I read somewhere not to long ago that Cat was considering going back to the low track design in a few years.

Serious inquiry as you guys seem to have quite a collection of these old beasts, around this time next year, I hope to be puchasing a decent sized plot of land (20-40 acres) and would love to aquire a functional older cat as both a resto' project and workhorse. Nothing that large, maybe an old D4 with a "pony motor"? About how much would you be looking at pricewise, both for initial purchase as well as typical maintainance/upkeep on something like that?

im interested in buying one what is the asking price on It and also where are you located? im from alabama
@tyfrank3427
7 жыл бұрын
I'm From Alberta, Canada. We want $45000 CAD for it. Genuine Cat undercarriage is $60000 here and it measures out to be only 4% worn. We rebuilt the torque and transmission within the last 100 hours and put $12000 in it. We actually rebuilt a D9H transmission for it which is better. It is a long ways to bring it but the exchange on the money would make it at least $10000 less in U.S. Dollars. This machine has had an easy life as it's only ever pulled a scraper for us and only ever pushed motor scrapers or pulled a scraper in its previous life. And we've never worked it on frozen ground.
