I'm not sure if you can get 20kg bags of baking soda there, but if so putting a tub of about 5 kg of it out with your sheep on lush pasture will prevent bloat. Just top up as they eat it. Sheep eagerly eat it but they don't overeat it. If you can't get it at a feed store try a bakery supply.

When you shear your sheep, if you are not taking it to a place that deals with it use it for bedding in pens . I know a few people on KZitem that just throw it into pens.

I think your sheep jump eagerly into the trailer in anticipation of going on to new pastures. Mine did when I kept a small flock on the move before we bought our own farm.

My flock loves the trailer. The ram group is slow and generally indifferent to all things besides grass, but the ewe flock will run beside the trailer if they’re by the road and I drive it by.

Too bad you are thousands of miles away. I have two nice Katahdin ram lambs for sale here in Missouri. These boys shed slick and were triplets! They would be great for your Scotchie project.

I don’t think being a triplet is a selling point. Having a lot of triplets is a nightmare. Definitely wouldn’t want that from my ram. I think it’s better aligned with the low maintenance goal of the breed to have a ram from the ewe that raised two large lambs then the one that had triplets and needed supplementation to raise them right or raised a miss matched litter. I rarely let a ewe raise triplets because I don’t feed grain and graze on thin mountain soil. Even if I can’t graft it I’ll take it cause I’d rather have a bottle lamb and a good set of twins over three poor lambs or two decents and a puke.

Do you ever worry about bringing worms onto the farm with new stock?
@swamp-yankee

Does anybody not already have worms though? I’d worry more about cocci, hoof rot, or something respiratory. I figure if I were to buy wormy sheep and don’t treat them they’re going to be effected, but the rest of the groups worm load is going to reflect where we’re at with the sward. I try and give it at least 45 days between grazing events & don’t generally have much issue with parasites unless I mess that up and regraze something early.
