My Fishing Buddy bought one in April 2021. So far the rudder system has broken twice while out on the water. The pedal drive blew apart the springs flying everywhere. He’s not happy to say the least. Three Rivers did give him a new pedal drive with instructions on how to continually tighten certain fasteners. They also repaired his rudder twice no questions asked. Personally I’d wait till they get the bugs sorted out. I have no dog in this hunt, it’s just a PITA paddling your buddy back to shore but hey, that’s what fishin buddy’s are for.

I love this kayak at this price point. The hull design gives it plenty of stability. The molded handles are sure to never fail and are placed perfectly. Plenty of space for attachments and has one of the best rudders on the market. They say that the drive is completely sealed and chain driven which should do well in the longevity department. I just don’t like the tension knob that secured the drive in place. I’m sure that part will fail and won’t stand up to the harsh saltwater that I normally fish.

It's amazing the price point of this for what you get. That other big company really needs to follow suit. It's great to have some many more options for pedal kayaks. I hope to be able to demo this when it comes out.

Have had a Bigfish 108 just a few days now but it is a great value for 1800. Speed is comparable to the Titan but the Bigfish rudder is better in the wind. One drawback on the Big Fish is due to design, you hear a lt of water slap on the hull and the drive unit makes more noise. The Titan feels like it glides through the water easier with less noise.

I don't think those are a great comparison to be honest. I realize it is hard to compare kayaks just from video. In person this kayak was significantly more impressive than the Perception or Pelican and I think it honestly justifies a higher price point than those two. I was actually surprised by the price when they said it. I expected a higher price based on what I saw. Video doesn't quite do it justice...I feel it was one of the major kayaks that stood out at the show. I don't blame you for making those comparisons, but having seen it in person I don't feel they compare to the Big Fish.

I have no vested interest in being excited on video and showing the kayak. I really liked it. I thought it was a great deal in terms of perceived value and build quality. They claim it will do ocean water well, but going through serious rough surf I do think could be slightly challenging due to width and hull style. I’m still considering it as a offshore/nearshore dive boat option due to it’s insanely large cargo areas. I have a few kayaks on my radar to fill than need. My friends and I plan to do kayak dive videos. Big Fish 108 has a really large scupper in the mid hull under a false deck which is kinda cool. They use the same scupper system on the new Jonny Boat.

People who think the price of 1,799.00 is great are NUTS the most expensive thing is the paddle system the rest is just plastic .The price should not be more than 900.00 dollars . if you look at other kayaks that are not peddle drive there price vis around 300.00 so given that the cost of making one is not close to a grand. if the cheaper kayaks were set up so you could put a peddle in it the price would be even lower.
@KayakDIY
4 жыл бұрын
These kayaks are heavier which means more plastic to go into the mold. They are also more complex in design such as molded in graphics, molded in threaded inserts, and more. This increased labor time and parts which is expensive. Then you also have R&D to pay for in developing a complex kayak design vs a cheap simplistic Walmart kayak hull. The prices of molds this size aren’t cheap either. Shipping costs are often built into price and being a larger heavier kayak it cost more. I’m sorry, but I worked in manufacturing rotomolded products and the price can’t be $900 for this kind of quality kayak. To compare it to a $300 basic kayak is unrealistic. Most commonly seen $300 kayaks aren’t even rotomolded but rather twin sheet thermoformed. Twin sheet thermoforming is possible on basic simplistic kayak designs and is not labor intensive and really a rather fast process. Thus, TST kayaks can be sold cheaper.

Yeah, pedal kayaks aren’t cheap. I actually see the value. I used to work in rotomolding and plastics which is hard work and hot. It was a job that paid well because it isn’t easy work. Shipping costs are high to manufacturers. Also R&D cost more for pedal drive kayaks. Then need to go pay employees, benefits, advertising costs, and more. I look at it in the same way as I look at bicycles. You can either buy a Walmart bicycle $ or a high end carbon fiber touring bicycle $$$ if you really get into the sport. $1799 to me is about the minimum i feel would need to be charged to produce one. Just so many expenses. A lightweight basic Walmart paddle kayak can be made and sold much easier. For one your advertising costs are low due to Walmart doing it for you. Also the kayak mold costs are lower and kayak is easier to ship. I understand a lot of people don’t plan on paying that kind of money for a kayak. However, those that really get into the sport eventually find they are willing to put a bit more money into a better kayak. Thanks for stopping by the channel. 🙂
