My grandfather used to play me this song on 8track in the eighties. A whole spaghetti western in my imagination. I played music professionally for decades but never wanted to try and touch this. This is the first time I've heard this song sound so accessable. Well fuckin done, you just made it human and terrestrial finally.

My parents got that album when it first came out. Played it so much we wore it out in a short time. I just got back from a musicians festival over this holiday weekend. sore fingers. abused voice and played the fiddle so much my neck hurts. Fantastic. Even had nice weather with some northern lights. Oh yes. You did a great job on this tune. It';s 1 Am. Now I can go to bed.

I’ve heard this song since I was knee high to a tadpole, have owned the Gunfighter Ballads album since high school, and have played clawhammer banjo since I was 16 (52 years ago), but I never thought of playing this particular song on the banjo. Your version works great with your fine voice and pickin’!
