My son and I have been trucking for many years. Love a truck pull. The first truck he rode around in was my 85 FL cab over. We both like the older stuff.

To the guy asking about the sled. They normally have wheels at the back. As the weight moves forward it loads the skid and unloads the wheels so it's harder to drag. The little wheels at the front lift the sled at the end so it's easier to pull back. Some sleds can actually drive themselves back to the start too. Hope that helps some.

Pollution standards for Diesels in the United States are more strict than they are in Europe. In fact, they are the most strict in the world. This is just playtime. Roll the coal!

That's right. If we were worried about pollution, we wouldn't do business with China. The west side of all of our mountains are worse off than the east. Stuff gets up in the jet stream and then it settles.

That old blue Freightliner FLD looked to be the most stock of the whole group. I wonder why they let him have the hitch ring so high. Being that high, it would lift the front of the sled reducing the drag and adding weight to the drivers.

@TheWeirdFish I definitely wouldn't say that these engines are improperly tuned, but more so that these engines are tuned in a manner other than for casual driving. These trucks are set for one purpose only...to put down as much torque as possible while pulling the sled down the track. By tuning in such a way, the thick black smoke is inevitable.

And a hood is the folding canvas roof of a car, and a trunk is a separate luggage compartment slung on the back of a vehicle, not part of the body. The words come from the corresponding parts of horse carts, which came before. The proper words (most of which are older than the USA itself) are those that we in Britain use. A bonnet is the forward bodywork, boot is the world for a luggage compartment that is a part of the bodywork. I use correct English, anything else is wrong, usually American.

Actual diesels have less green house gas per horsepower than their rival gas engine does, they unfortunely produce a lot more sulfur dioxide which contributes to more acid rain. Now these massive diesels that power these sled dragsters can be retuned to burn cleaner bio-diesel! I think the fans love the smoke!

The catalytic converter in cars change the carbon monoxide into something that is non toxic like carbon dioxide. The sulfur and smell in diesels are what make diesels worse than gas. Make working catalytic converters for diesels or make them clean then we'll talk about whose cleaner. And both types produce carbon dioxide.

I drive a V12 Jaguar daily, drift, greenlane, have a V12 powerboat, and occasionally go on random cross continent tours in a V8 Land Rover. I do not save the environment that much, nor do I drive hybrids. I know all the problems relating to batteries, and that if you drive them above 25 mph the economy drops to roughly that of a normal car anyway because the electric can't keep up. Great in traffic, shit everywhere else. You're better off with a diesel Golf. That won't smoke you to death either

Wrong! Look at the ANGLE of pull. If the chain was completely horizontal, no load would be added to the drive wheels. If the angle is upwards from the sled to the truck, the force would tend to LIFT the sled and add weight to the drive wheels. I'm surprised they didn't have a rule specification for the height (or angle) of the hitch.
