I'm in Michigan. I take 2 different insulins. I always get into the catastrophic phase each year. In 2023, does the $35 cap apply to the catastrophic phase? In 2022, you must pay 5% of the retail cost of the drug. For me with two insulins, it means over $300 every 90 days.

Hi Susan, that is a great question! Thanks for watching and asking. The $35 does apply to catastrophic coverage also for 2023.

My grandson has T1D. Will it limit his cost to $35 per month also?

Unfortunately it will not lower his insulin costs unless he is eligible for Medicare

It's a shame the Republicans stripped out the $35 insulin cap for the non-Medicare people.

@@GiardiniMedicare Didn't the Dems pass this bill by reconciliation requiring only Dem votes? How would Republicans strip it out if they didn't have any leverage here?
@GiardiniMedicare
2 жыл бұрын
@@jeremymoniz8877 That is true that they didn't directly strip it out. The insulin cap for insulin with private insurance was not able to pass using reconciliation, and the Senate was shy of the 60 votes they would have needed to pass it. Here is a good overview!: www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2022/08/08/senate-republicans-block-insulin-cap-private-insurance/10265453002/

The bill will not effect me in regards to Medicare. The changes focus on prescription drugs. It will cost me for other things. It would be beneficial if Medicare would cover dental and vision health.

Mike, we agree. Unfortunately, coverage for dental, vision, and hearing was scrapped from the final bill.

Zostervax is the old shingles vaccine no longer considered effective. It is on the list of vaccines to be paid in full. Will this also cover the new Shingrix vaccine - (not on the list)?
@GiardiniMedicare
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Marilyn, good question! The list just says "zoster" which is referring to the virus that causes shingles, instead of referring to Zostavax. Shingrix is currently a Part D covered vaccine (an expensive one) so it will likely be no cost in 2023😄

@@GiardiniMedicare yes, when will they start thinking about covering dental, vision and hearing and INCLUDE it in Medicare??? By the time you have insurance for every little thing that could happen ,you pay usd 300 a month. Who has that kind of money??

@@beautyRest1 thanks for the good feedback! We agree that is the next big part of Medicare that will need to be addressed. It was in the original bill but was taken out before the final passage.

Part of the bill is capping Part D premiums to 6% per year. Will be interesting to see how it plays out, but we agree that insurance companies are very good at avoiding losses!

I am very cynical when it comes to the government and Medicare. I think the lobbying has gotten seniors screed over for decades. What I would like to see is a panel of seniors who are on SS and Medicare on a panel that decides all the changes. And have the power to make a difference. I don’t see anyone leaving Congress that will have to live on SS.

@@Dumbluck14 I certainly love the idea of having "average" people having direct input when making decisions that impact all seniors. We hope these changes will be positive, but unfortunately onl time will tell! Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your thoughts.
