It wasn't just the veterans that were screwed over, but their families as well. My grandfather worked in nuclear weapons testing while in the USMC. After years of weapons testing he developed cancer and died while my mom was young and still in school. What made it even worse was the fact that because his work was classified, my grandmother was denied any assistance after he passed. This left my grandmother alone with 6 kids to raise on her own. My mom would tell me how my grandma worked three jobs and often relied on family and our community. She also had health problems as she grew older and it took our family years of trying to get her the assistance that she was owed and the recognition that my grandfather deserved. I think it literally took my grandma threatening to release information, documents, and certificates that my grandpa gave her before she finally got help. This story hits home for a lot of my family. Dear KZitem, Simple fix. If a third-party claimant on behalf of a channel makes a strike, why don't you have an automatic message going to that channel's primary contact e-mail asking to verify the strike? Surely with how many software engineers at your company, you could implement something like that.
@wesleyfravel5149
2 ай бұрын
Can't. DMCA is technically a legal matter, and KZitem isn't allowed to be involved other than the company going "Of course, we'll oblige". Otherwise they can be held for legit copyright infringement.

@wesleyfravel5149 if that's the case then why are they allowing 3rd party requests at all. The request should be made from the original creator no?
@taycrolyn
2 ай бұрын
@wesleyfravel5149 They could implement a two factor authentication for content being struck. Sending an email to confirm with the company the person striking is legit doesn't get them in trouble, if the company says no, then the claim is fraudulent. If the company says yes then KZitem still does what it does. The fact that you can strike a channel to begin with involves youtube because otherwise someone would have to serve you a cease and desist for copyright infringement, which would have a timelimit for the infringementy to cease and desist or go to court to be sued. There's no perminant strike that could cause you to lose your channel, there's no pause on income durring the grace period, although you wouldn't want the thing your being sued for to make you much because if you lose your likely to pay double back, it's not very social content. Social media companies especially streaming services are well within their terms of service to require two factor Authentication for strikes on content. Especially content from the site. Channel to channel strikes. They could do a number of things. But they punish the channel, give the earnings of the video to the bad actor and they only provide twofactor review for brands like ABC and Disney who actually do the legal work for a real copyright claim, have lawyers that send the cease and desist as well as make the strike, that sort of thing. You can't be sued by some company in Bangladesh on behalf of a channel based in Canada because the cease and desist paperwork would not match the legal preceding from the country of the company or entity making the claim, in the senerio where youtube used a two-factor confirmation for strike managment. KZitem is lazy and has no reason to devote resource to the department of claim support

My grandmother and her family were living in Utah when they were doing those atomic tests in the 50s. I've heard the story tons of time over the years about how they would sometimes get fallout dusting their home and were often told by the authorities way too early that it was safe to be outside. Thankfully my great grandfather was a scientist and owned a geiger counter and knew enough about the science behind radiation to be able to check radiation levels and hose down their home while keeping my grandma and her sisters inside. So far we haven't seen any ill effects, everyone involved lived a very long time/ is still alive, but I can't even imagine what some other families there or closer to the testing might have experienced. Feels kund of like dodging the slowest bullet in the world.

So one of my best friends and my grandfather both died because of fallout. my grandfather was there during the bikini bomb testing. He was on a sub tender and the ship closer to the blast and the ship behind his both sunk. Because of it, he finally passed about 10 years ago due to a crazy aggressive cancer. But we were not able to get any assistance from the government or VA because his cancer was too unique. I remember growing up with him telling us all sorts of crazy stories about the blast, like the fact that the higher-ups expected his ship to sink even though it was fully Croud. And One of my best friends. His family was downwind from the Nevada bomb testing. Downwinder syndrome took out 85% of his family. He was an amazing friend and he died due to a second bout with cancer.

Yea none of us really have faith in our medical system over here. Consistently it's stories from others, or yourself, about how loved ones are dying from something and are absolutely screwed because a cure would be unprofitable to the company, and insurance doesn't cover shit so the sick care is ridiculously expensive. Those on Medicare or Medicaid have to run circles for years even sometime, to then be canceled randomly without notice. Or going in for something routine and being charged thousands that the insurance won't cover. Or not having insurance and the hospital charging you more because of it. Frankly it's our political leaders as well as permanent factions of the government that are all corrupt. It's them and the corporations vs everyone else. I digress, you can tell I'm fed up.😅

My grandfather passed away from his second fight with cancer that started in his nose and cheeks. He was a army vet that worked security and cleanup on the Nevada test site. When the government signed that compensation package into law he received a payout on condition that he could not sue the government about the exposure. He took the payout as he was financially unsound and relying on family to make ends meet, but a few years later his first round of cancer appeared. Despite being a veteran, his treatment wasn't covered at the VA hospital as he was exposed after he retired from active duty. He easily spend all the money he was given and far more getting treatment so even with the payout he was screwed by the government. He loved this country to the end despite how much he knew they had screwed him over. He never was told he was exposed to radiation until he got the check in the mail.

About the organ transplant: I may be a bit biased as a dialysis nurse, but saving lives, in my opinion, out weighs the very small potential that a couple neurons start working again. Those deemed deceased will never be awake and alert again. Their body has naturally died. It was their time to go so they went. Keeping the organs in the best shape possible can save so many more of my patients who are awake and alert and some working jobs and having families and all that still. Another idea could be having an extra box to check when signing up to be an organ donor that says you're okay with that NRP. Just an idea

If NRP makes them concious in any way, I'd be 100% against it. If it makes the brain start up again as well, that's monstrous and should be stopped at all costs. There's absolutely no world that more organ viability is worth whatever someone might endure feeling while the NRP brings them back from death. That's a big if though, I do not believe it does, I believe it's ONLY electrical signals to the heart. So I support that. If you are a donor, it should be important to you that your stuff is as viable as possible as quickly as possible. if they've attempted to revive you for the amount of time they usually would, and you remain dead, NRP should be used ASAP to preserve as much organ viability as possible.

The doctors prepped us to let him go THEN someone came in about him being a donor and told us we had to keep him plugged in while he was still responsive to pain stimuli for 2 more days before they had an OR opening. It was horrendous to watch him flinch and wince and choke on tubes for 2 days and you just have to watch and wait, or you'll miss him "actually dying." It got our whole family to remove ourselves from the donor registry. I know it saves so many lives and is a noble idea, but they have to do something about how inhumane it is to the dying person, and heartbreaking it is to the family.

There is a documentary, done about 10yrs ago by a British journalist, about the effects in the Pacific islands of our atomic bomb testing. Even in the 1960’s, our govt was calling the Chamorro people and other South Pacific indigenous tribes, “savages” and they were “test subjects in the 90’s. These millions of people continue to suffer from the effects of this testing-with little to no compensation. Oh wait…the Chamorro on Guam? No worries…they got the “reward” of being US Citizens…so our Govt could use imminent domain to continue stealing their land-including an ancient burial ground…now a “shooting range”. But, but…they are US Citizens, surely they can vote for people who will fight for their rights? Ask representatives from the Marianna’s how that goes. Heck, ask the Japanese, if you don’t want to ask those poor “savages” on the Islands. Ask ANY of the non-US Islands, who continue to fight for rights and medical care for the long term effects of OUR radiation experiments. In fact, if you watch the documentary, you’ll learn our govt PURPOSELY exposed many of these peoples, knew exactly what effects the radiation would have by the 50’s, but lied to the people for the sole reason of using them as Guinea pigs to study long term effects of these bombs. There are organizations like WeAreGuam, filled mostly with young people like my late son and his fiancé, who continue to TRY and fight for recognition and reparations from our govt and military. Unfortunately, without more wide public support, they aren’t even taken seriously…instead, denying these people even formal apologies, never mind reparations.

Brit here. In regards to the UK election, sure Labour won by a seat landslide, in the sense they got a huge amount of seats. But they only got 34% of the vote share, Conservatives got 24%, while the racist Reform UK party got 14%. Terrible turnout for Labour because no one really wanted to vote for them, they are more right leaning, basically diet Tory. This years election had one of the worst voter turnouts ever, and the worst in recent history because everyone is so fed up of both major parties. The UK is in an absolutely terrible state, it’s depressing. And we all know that the parties promising real positive change like the Greens, aren’t going to win. Jeremy Corbyn got more votes both times he lost and was deemed “unelectable” than starter got in this election. In 2017, Corbyn got 12,877,918, 2019 he got 10,269,051, Kier Starmer last week got 9,634,399. The conservatives still got 6,827,112 this election, not as big a landslide as everyone is making it out to be. If Reform hadn’t become so popular thanks the the arsehole that is Nigel Farage, Tories may have just been able to win, as a lot of Tory voters leaned into Reform this time- Reform got 4,106,661.

For me personally, I'd indicate a yes to organ donation, but no to NRP for my own body.

And people still believe big daddy government cares about them and their families. So much so those people will do everything in their power to destroy the lives of individuals whom are willing to question the government still. Look back in the last 4 years, plenty of proof for all to see.

My mom was born in "61" in St. George, UT. My grandfather who was a twice wounded veteran of the Korean war, helped build the highway system to Las Vegas. He died of cancer, My Grandmother died of cancer, My uncle died of cancer and my Mother and my Uncle have both had tumors removed from their bodies are alive but disabled. No, one had any idea back then that they were in harms way. Just another tragic stain on our countries legacy.

I remember a news story on here a few months back about the brain still being active for a while after death, the NRP story seems kind of horrendous to think you might somewhat be aware you’re being cut open and your organs removed.

Exactly. I stopped being an organ donor for similar considerations. Too many examples of them cutting the donor open scarcely a minute after the heart stops. Nightmare fuel.

I've never commented on a video before, but that Dept of Energy map in the last story that showed the spread of the nuclear fallout around the country, was genuinely one of the most terrifying images I've ever seen! You mean to tell me that they blew up nukes so fucking big, that their radiation blanketed nearly all of the country?!!? Holy Shit!! The people of this country are riddled with health problems, many of which families had zero history of until sometime in the last 60 years. If this radiation got into the soil, into the crops, into the water AND the fallout spread that far across the country? We could be seeing a multi-generational poisoning of the country by its government, and one that could far outreach impacting only the Atomic Vets! How is THAT aspect not a bigger story? Not to mention that an irradiated crop from one part of the country could easily make its way to a less radiated part, furthering the spread. This seems like pure chaos, and a problem that is going to be impacting ALL of us for many, many more generations!

My brother died this last year, it was a total disaster in his last 6 hours of life after he spent a week fighting while in a coma. The organ donation people showed up while the family was saying their final good byes and tried to kick my sister out of the room... This led us to saying NO to them, than when we decided to withdraw care they kicked us of the trauma care wing and put us in the same areas as people who were suffering mental break downs, and we spent the last 4 hours of his life listening to cries for help, which were not being answered. The following day my sister called and talked to the head of the organ donation team and agreed to have only my brothers corneas harvested. The hospital kept my brothers body for 4 weeks!!! from this disaster of an experience we have all decided that we will never use that hospital or donate any part of our bodies, which is unfortunate because well all thought it was a good thing to do but the pain of tracking my brothers body down for weeks after his donation caused more pain to an already hurt family. I personally believe he and us were treated this way because he passed due to a drug OD.

There was a story a few years ago about a father barricading himself in a hospital room with his son that was in a coma. The doctors didnt think the son would survive and started taking him off life support and had already called the organ donation organization. The son was able to squeeze his hand on command and this gave the doctors and police that he wasnt brain dead. The man saved his son.

My grandpa was part of the atomic soldiers. He was a paratrooper tasked with transporting nuclear bombs to Germany. They would fly with them and were instructed that if the plane were ever attacked, they were to drop the bomb and one of them was to dive with it to ensure that it was detonated manually if it failed to go off. This was in the Korean War but he was stationed in Europe flying these to bases in West Germany. He did not have radiation exposure that we know of. Still it's pretty fucked up to think about what his job was. He'd never told any of us about it until Clinton declassified all of this In 1996.

I was in Japan during the Fukushima nuclear meltdown and earthquakes. The US did NOT mention mention anything about radiation poisoning and the dangers of the potential meltdown as our ships steered through plumes of radiation clouds, much of which stayed in our ship's air ventilation systems which caused over a decade of random cancer to our sailors, all the while the US did everything in their power to not take accountability for it and refused VA benefits to even the people that died from this.
