You FINALLY hit the "nail on the head" when you uttered the words. . ."Slim to None." Even when I hear trade ideas that make sense, my faith in the Cardinals front office actually pulling then off is "slim to none." Didn't Mo recently say it's going to be difficult to make deals this year? He's already laying the groundwork for fans to not expect much to be done. Also, hate to say it, but I'm an "older" fan and I remember as a kid when the ENTIRE 1963 Cardinals infield was the starting infield for the National League All-Star team. I know, I know, that was a very unusual thing, but it still makes this year's "no-Cardinals" player appearing in the game at all a little hard to take. Oh well, maybe next year Masyn will "Winn" a spot on the 2025 team!

JD, if the Cardinals continue their 32 - 18 run from now until the end of the year they will wind up 94 - 68 and win the division. Picking up a good starting pitcher and a good reliever would be a really good idea. However, Bowtie Mo will probably be sitting on his thumbs as usual. If they don't get a starter, they need to bring up the best starter from AAA Memphis and put him in the starting rotation and have the guts to back him. Put the odd man out starter in the bullpen. My guess is Lance Lynn. Lance might be awesome just pitching 2 or 3 innings.

If the Yanks, Dodgers, and other high market teams are set with their starters ( short series playoffs) maybe the Cards can pull something off. Imo first need 1 or 2 solid starter that can consistently get you deep into games also helps the bp arms. 2 ..bullpen help..outfield im not sold on Siani as a hitter ..the D is awsome..but look at the Tommy Edmund highlight reel from last year👍 with Paul G and Nolan A having down years If Tommy is Healthy with that wrist should be given a chance to play everyday to get that timing back. He can give a day off to any outf or inf position except 1base it could boost run production. Sooo unfortunate with Dylan Carlsons injury he was really hitting the ball well. Good stuff JD👍⚾️🏆 btw im just saying Tommy bcz i dont see the cardinals adding a big bat like Vlad etc. But the need for a number 1 or 2 starter to shut down the oppositions offence is critical in a short series Playoffs

I don’t picture the front office making a serious move. The price tag to get a difference maker will be higher than Mozeliak and DeWitt are willing to pay. If the Cards make the playoffs, they likely end up in the Wild Card….which means winning a best of 3 series. Sonny Gray when he’s on can pitch toe to toe with any starter in baseball. What the Cardinals sorely lack is a 2nd starter of that caliber. Depth of quality starters matters so much less in the playoffs than 2 studs anchoring the top. IF the Cards were going to make a move, it would be for a #2 level starter…..but as I said, I just don’t picture John Mozeliak trading what would be required to get a Crochet or Skubal

This is it for Goldschmidt and Mozaliak. Hopefully,, Big Mo will go all in for once. We have players blocked by others that need to be involved in trades for what we need. If we have to trade top prospects and favorite stars for a combination of players like Rooker, Scherzer, Yates, or the equivalent, it will make us a legitimate playoff team. We overpaid for Mikolas and please never mention Matz unless to say he is gone. We are a revenue driven team that can't afford to spend now, but can pay for guys that aren't worth it. However, I'm not opposed to gettng someting in return for them. thenthere's Change of Scenery thing. MOving elsewhere may help THEM to do bigger and better things. That usually happens. Players will tell you they get stuck in a rut. moivng themmight be a good thing.I'm still in for that BIG ARM as a starter or bullpen dude. I hate to rbing this up but as J.D. Mentioned, we've got Goldchmidt throgh the end of this season. DO we move him? that's a thought! Arenado is a similiar situation in 2025. Do we MVE him? we've got a person or two to replace them. NObody ever mentons this but Jordan Walker played 3rd base. ....JUst saying. NOlan Gorman, as sated once plays 3rd base. It's something to think about for hte furure. The here and nw is great right now for the Caridnals but the future nees addressed, too. You might be able to get a good 2nd pticher in a rotatoin for one of our coerner fielders. JD, it sure would be nice if Tink Hence was ready. Do we have one starting pitcher at Triple-A that could be brought up and put into the rotation from now until the end of the year? Get him up to St.Louis NOW! Maybe we need to develop our own and bring them up to the MLB club and stop dreaming of a trade which Mo won't do anyways! Last years haul of players at the trade deadline need to be kept, not given away. If they won't be ready until 2025 or 2026, is that bad? Are we going to beat Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles and make it to the world series this year? I don't think so. Trade or DFA players on the big league club that aren't contributing and try to get upgrades or good prospects and continue to upgrade the minor leagues. JD, i love your content, really. But you seriously have got to stop thinking that Kevin Pillar is anything other than a bad player who had a short term hot streak. That would be a horrible pickup for the Cards. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills every time someone brings him up. My hope for the Cards at the deadline would be another relief arm, preferably right handed, and my top choice would be Tyler Rogers of the Giants. The giants are under .500, have a load of teams they would have to jump to nab a wild card spot. They won't be selling everything not nailed down, but it would make sense for them to move a couple short term assets. Rogers might cost a little on prospect capital, with another year of club control after this one, but he's worth it. He would immediately lengthen the bullpen even further, and he's got that rubber arm thing most submariners have, where he can pitch often without much in the way of fatigue setting in. The cardinals could shut teams down from the fifth inning on, especially come playoff time. I would love to see the club add a high end starter, but i just can't see it happening, especially with the ridiculous haul the royals just gave up for a pretty middling reliever.

This is one of Mo's last years, I could see him being willing to make bigger moves but very likely nothing will happen until close to the end of the deadline. Probably wouldn't make a move until the 28th which is pretty much the cut off for those teams, such are the Rangers, whom are attempting to still be in contention. To be blunt I don't see them making big enough moves in all likelihood we need another #1-2 pitcher, a bull pen arm and a right hand bat that can actually hit. And that's just too much future prospects to sacrifice we could realistically get away with 2 of those things but it'll still be very difficult, from the sound of things Brewers, Orioles, even Dodgers are all looking at starting pitchers, and I don't see Mo being more playoff hungry than any of those teams management.
