Idea: cast this to a big screen and play the game by committee with your friends. You can act as imperator or chief or consul or whatever and your buddies can be your nobles/senators/generals. Could be very fun having one guy making economic decisions while another is telling you to trump the nerd and pour more money somewhere else.

I actually love this. Say for example Sicily. In vanilla I can take Sicily in a turn or two, eliminating the reason for the Punic Wars. Here, it will take planning and securing your supply lines to take the island while dealing with Chartage elsewhere.

Yep. Taking a break from Warhammer 3 and coming back to this game after being unimpressed when it was released last year (of course mods were barely developed at that point). Wasn’t expecting to be this entranced by the mod now. I ended up staying up til like 4:30 AM the other night playing and I didn’t even realize it. I just wish it was 4 tpy instead of 2. I don't remember any way to take over all of Sicily in one turn in Rome 1. Game was designed where you had to wait at least 1 turn to take a walled settlement and the movement range of armies made it impossible to take all of them in one go. You needed at least 4 turns to fully take them all with the size and development of your armies and roads at the start of the campaign. Rome 2 is where you can just do that in 1 turn.

This was always my dream they made a mod like this or CA/Sega would continue on this road. Havent had a game pc since 2011. If they added some rpg elements as well for the generals and created some hate between often warring factions it would be perfect. In fact it would be even better if you could go all the way to china and could create megawonders like hadrians wall, great wall of China en water systems and bonusses for exploration. Emerging factions like the huns and probably some things i forget.

WARNING: Rant ahead. I would have loved to like this mod. It looks awesome, and it's the fruit of the kind passion project that I simply love to see. But... First, I tried to launch it, and it crashed. Searching for the reason, I found that you need to activate the unit variety option to start, which had an unexpected consequence later. Second, after I started it, wow! What a map! I tried to see it all without the fog of war, and immediately had to change the graphics settings from medium (where it ran smooth as teflon in vanilla) to low. And deactivate labels. Third, I see the cash flow with Romans and... A 10000 treasure with a 11500 deficit. I tried to see other factions and holy hell, every single faction that I tried has a deficit of over 50% of the treasure! So, I did what the shiny text at the begging recommended and raised the taxes to the max, while building farms everywhere I could with the money I managed to get. I quickly realized that I was basically doing a bureaucratic procedure every time I started a game. Seriously, the strategy is only one, there are no multiple choices of how to balance the economy, you have to do the same damn thing everywhere, in the same cities, with the same results. This should not be part of gameplay of any kind! This does not give options, this does not raise difficulty, this just make you do the game-equivalent of filling forms at the start. Besides, the economic start is also immersion breaking. I tried to find papers for "Mediterranean economic crisis of the 270 BCE" and could find references for it. More seriously, it gives the impression that I'm playing in the Bronze Age Collapse rather than in the Punic Wars era. Fourth, and the dealbreaker for me... The battles, that ran in vanilla at 60 fps in medium graphics with huge size units, ran at whatever the hell they wanted between 10 and 40 fps in low graphics with small size units without obvious cause. That was deeply frustrating for me, I have a modest computer with a Ryzen 5600G and 16 GB of ram, not exactly a gaming machine but more than enough to run Rome Total War Remastered even at higher graphical settings (and as I said, silky smooth in medium with huge units), but Imperium Surrectum is just borderline unplayable on it.

I only wish actual Total War games had this many settlements. It would really make the game way more interesting and you could play into it more by having certain settlements garrisoned while others aren't so that conquest of a region would really depend on key locations. Or maybe spawning a small garrison if the faction your fighting is on its last settlement set. Making armies smaller until factions reach a certain size themselves. Renewed population mechanics. Etc. But TW I know could really push the boundaries if they tried and could create something unique even among their own titles and incredibly long-lasting if they went this route
@cass7448
2 жыл бұрын
Personally I'd love a return to ETW/NTW's way of doing things, where resource nodes are little micro-settlements without a garrison. It made raiding and area control much more important, as well as making the world feel more populated without making you do endless sieges.
@matiasmosquella1830
2 жыл бұрын
@@cass7448 Definitely. Most maps nowadays are just barren terrain and roads. You'd think they would take a hint from when they made the mobile game kingdoms where soldiers patrolled the walls and people moved down the street and roads. Also at this point the campaign maps should have way more settlements when you consider a mod for og Rome TW has 900. Really brings the campaign map to life. Especially since you could rework income to be much smaller and rework regions with it. You could have multi type regions where some are single settlements regions and other multi settlements regions. Really over all Total War lacks variety within their core mechanics and with the visuals. 1212 AD for Attola makes regions single settlement so it's not impossible and you did have trading carts and ships already. Generally there's a lot that could be done for immersion if CA just decided to really spend time trying to innovate their games rather than releasing a a game a year as they've been doing.

This is the direction Rome should be going in I think. Keep the graphics the same and the engine like hotseats etc but they should turn to more historical eras particularly around the medieval era. Game of thrones mods with there many different houses and units etc, more lord of the rings mods but with proper rights to avoid caps and the game crashing or bugs etc like there is no reason they can’t get rights to these like they have warhammer. The mods are brilliant but too unreliable. So put a cap on the graphics keep the game simple, focus more on what this game has focused on because this is what total war fans want or majority do

I have to wonder how the hell the AI behaves on this type of map... Upkeep increase is generally necessary when you add so many settlements because of how much so many cities inflates the game's economics. I remember someone remade Barbarian Invasion using the settlement count from the Vanilla game, and it made Romans unstoppable because of how much more wealth they suddenly had.

remember there are x10 more settlements than in the base game. If upkeep costs were normal then you'd have to take one hour just to progress through one turn because you'd have to fight battles with tens of armies across all of those settlements. The game is made for fighting battles with 3 armies max but it isn't made for more, so you'd have to literally queue up armies for a battle

Okay so I really wanted to like this mod because I can see all the love and time put into it, but I just can't. The map size really kills it for me it's just to big. One it's like being an ant trying to look at an elephant the only thing I can see is the toenail, when I play I really like to get a sense of the region I'm in get the lay of the land see some of my neighbors and what's going on around me but with the map being so big I can't really do that. Two the other thing I really loved about Rome total war and most other mods for the game was being able to pit widely different cultures and armies against each other and seeing how they stack up, the Germans against Seleucid Empire, the Britannia against the Egyptians etc. With the map being so big each region is like a whole map and game in itself and disconnected form the world and cultures around it, It's just not the way I like to play.
