How on earth did Khaled El-Katateny cheat? He used his skill at reading people's reactions to the possible answers to decide on the correct one. Granted, it may not be the same as actually knowing stuff, but it's not like he had someone coughing or a producer handing him the answers before the start of the show. If he'd misread one of the signs, he'd have lost.

Also, Terry Kniess on TPIR who got the exact price on the final showcase and the exact beginning bid on the grill did it using probability and research. He and his wife watched every episode of TPIR, memorized prices and patterns and he had luck getting to the front and doing well on the wheel. There’s an article and a couple of interviews with him about it. So yeah I call BS on some of this video.

He was cheating. He did not 'know' the answers to the questions - he read them somewhere. For those of us who do 'know' the answers, it is a slap in the face of rote memorization and experience. This is equal to a 'psychic' reading. How happy are you when you talk to a dead loved one through a medium only to find out that you were being played by someone who doesn't really know?
@muffinman5741

He didn't read them anywhere. He guessed them based on the body language of the host and audience. He even admitted it volontarily. Guessing is part of the game. He did nothing wrong. You can say he is an asshole. But he dedinately wasn't cheating. In the german version of the show the moderator doesn't know the right answer until the contestant decided on an answer. maybe they should consider this.

Sevicify In the german spin-off "Wer wird Millionär?" it was shown that the host cannot see the correct answer right from the start.
@Sevicify
6 жыл бұрын
When the host is given the correct answer by the producers to verify against is irrelevant. The fact remains they have already given the contestant the possible choices to which both the host and audience may naturally react to, such as with subtle sub-conscious facial expressions, based upon their personal knowledge of the question and the answers.
@LKDesign
6 жыл бұрын
Sevicify That doesn't make too much sense. Any of such reactions would be irrelevant. The later questions in these high-profile shows are hard as possible and the host at best might have a mere feeling of what might be the right answer. Nothing of which the candidate could get an actual clue from.
@Sevicify
6 жыл бұрын
Saying they at best might have a "mere feeling" is naive baseless assumption that the host would lack the necessary knowledge to know the correctness of (some of) the answers, fact is you have no idea what they may or may not know. And if they have such knowledge of a question there is chance they may react in a certain way towards correct/incorrect answers which the contestant could possibly pick up on. This applies to the audience as well increasing the sample size thus increasing the chances someone may have such knowledge and reacting to it, and you could argue these types of shows have a greater appeal to trivia buffs making them more likely candidates within the studio audience and more likely to know more obscure stuff. And take note I'm not saying this is would be a foolproof strategy because it obviously isn't but it is a definite possibility to utilise depending on the circumstances.
@NillKitty
3 жыл бұрын
Ted Slauson didn't deny that's what happened; he tells it detail by detail in the documentary "The Perfect Bid". It's Freemantle that doesn't want people playing "too good". In the Barker era they would have celebrated that win and talked about it for weeks.
@ChrisAldridge
5 жыл бұрын
Looking at the host's expressions to see his reactions to answers isn't cheating, it's studying. It's not cheating to study the game. Cheating is when you have knowledge obtained through deceptive or illegal means. He didn't obtain any knowledge that wasn't already in front of him. So no, it's not cheating. If that's the case, every poker champion is a cheater, because we all know you don't play cards, you play people. The Price is Right guy also didn't cheat, he studied the game.

The perfect bid on The Price is Right was not cheating. Source: Drew Carey himself, in an interview on the Kevin Pollack Chat Show. For a long time TPIR's prizes were the same year after year, and fans simply remembered what their "actual retail price" on the show was. One such fan got into a taping, and was shouting out the actual prices throughout the entire show (which is perfectly within the rules and encouraged by TPIR producers). There was absolutely no cheating involved (although Carey did claim the fan was part of a group of disgruntled fans who weren't happy with changes made to the show since Carey replaced Bob Barker, but that's still not cheating). Afterwards, TPIR producers made sure prizes weren't static, and has even manipulated the "actual retail price" ever since by adding/subracting different options to the vehicle/trip packages.

What about the series _Big Money?_ They tried to get a young man - just a high school student even though he looked older - named Richard Cunningham to cheat by giving him the answers to the questions. Fortunately his father Howard and his friend Arthur talked him out of it. The scandal was so bad that the emcee of the show had to change his name to Ruben Kincaid (so fake!) and manage a so-called 'band' whose members were all from the same family! Nysguy2003. Jesus Christ, dude. Tone it down. Half these contestants were already considered NOT cheaters. Just trying to help. Poorly titled.

Terry Kneiss didn’t win his showcase by memorization. Ted Slausson helped him. See Ted’s video about his Price is Right attendance. He seems like a nice guy.

Reading someone's body language and the "Price is Right" one isn't cheating, it's being smart. Like that's so fucking cool.

The Australian “millionaire” show. The Eddy Maguire guy makes it really obvious which is the right answer. He basically tells you when you picked the wrong answer.

The guy that was watching everyone's face to win, I feel is pretty fair and a good tactic because no one knows what question could be put towards them, or they just have memory lose of history. Such as I do i only remember main events I can't tell u something like a date or the # of presidents, I kinda notice maybe it's because I try to live up to date. Like it still feels like 2016 to me i just haven't been caught up and keeping my mind on that, I am focussing on main things right now, so my real problem is I would probably do that same tactic. But I can tell you there is 9 planet's like things that stay around I am kinda with, would anyone say it is bad to not remember history from the past? Like what cons do u think and what pros do you think?

Why do ppl compete for 50k? Takes almost half in taxes, then split it among your team.....leaves you enough to pay for your clothes, alcohol, and whatever else the show didn’t pay for.

Most gameshows are rigged by the producers, it’s common knowledge. Very few shows are 100% honest. This isn’t news, it’s like saying wrestling’s fake. Like, we all know it’s staged, but it’s fun to watch.

Actually, it's a federal offense for any game show to be rigged. Any student of broadcasting knows it. Have you read anything about the 1950s quiz show scandals? The incident that started it all is in the last part of this video, the black and white clip from Twenty One. Long story short, as a result of all hell breaking loose, there were amendments added to the Communications Act of 1934 that prohibit the rigging and staging of game shows. So, nice try, but your point is moot. For further reference, see the Robert Redford film Quiz Show, which talks about the quiz show scandals.

*And also, game shows ARE NOT STAGED OR SCRIPTED!* Miles said it right. If it were, it would be a federal offense, and the show would be axed and its staff all fired.

Drew told the producers he thought the old guy that memorized prices was getting hand signals from an audience member who just happened to be a former big winner on the show that was also very specific in his bids. You're welcome.
