I'm crying. I remember back when Mike was on the season, we saw glimpses of his brother, who was upset on how his brother, dad, were becoming thin, and he was not. (His mother was already slim) Now, he's lost weight! I know, this is from a long time ago, but I'm so overjoyed that HE was able to follow in his brother and dad's footsteps and be able to lose the weight. This is amazing. I was so saddened when he was upset, but I'm so proud of him now!

Is eating 1 burger or hotdog going to kill you ? No, but if you eat A LOT of them you will gain weight. There is nothing wrong with treating yourself to unhealthy food every now and then. You don't need to take everything away. Just find a balance.

I have a crazy relationship with this show. I am a fan of gradual, sustainable weight loss that you can continue outside of the unique atmosphere of the ranch. Erik gained a lot of his weight back and it kills me that he has. Once the weight drops, and they get back to real life, they have to contend with a whole different monster. Which is why I like Supersize v. Superskinny better, it focuses on the wholistic approach of weight loss

+Terrmeister Fitness A bunch of them gained their weight back. Crash dieting like they do on the show is no way to lose weight. They talk about healthy living and choices, but behind the scenes they are really doing it wrong. But that won't make a good show. It didn't take you 3 months to put the weight on, you are not going to take it off in that time either. (not healthy)

+Terrmeister Fitness That's why I like BBC more. US programs are often times about the drama. SvS is about helping ppl get healthy. There's no fat shaming, it's just a healthy discussion about the problems associated with being overweight or underweight. They are also informative. There's just no comparison.

This show doesn't help people long term, they needed to learn to handle and deal with their lives after the show, lose weight without destroying their metabolisms which this show did not do.
@ge2719
8 жыл бұрын
yu can't "destroy your metabolism". their metablism is "slower" after they lose weigh tbecause absolutely everything they do at 300lbs over weight take more calories, sitting, breathing, standing up. all burns more calories. then they get thin and they need less calories than they used to need, combined with the fact they were eating way more than they needed to begin with and yeah, they had no idea what maintenance calories they need, or how to eat that much...they had plenty of time to get an awareness of this, plenty of thinking about how much they are eating while losing hundreds of pounds. people cant do absolutely everything for them. the show helped them, got them to a good place and they screwed it up themselves

amari murphy and its not supposed to be. They don't have to keep doing it once they lose the weight. Once they lose it they change to eating enough to maintain their weight based on whatever their activity level is afterwards. If they gained weight afterwards then they should have used their brain and ate less.
@bradleymartin6254
7 жыл бұрын
Graeme Evans no, what they did was destroy their metabolism to the point where probably eating 800 calories would have caused them to gain weight. You do it slowly and permanently
@ge2719
7 жыл бұрын
Bradley Martin nope, if you actually read the studies done on "damaging metabolism", the difference is a few hundred less calories in a day than other people at most. (so for example someone who "should" need say 2500 calories as a fully grown male, only actually needs like 2200) your 800 calories you pulled out of your butt is based on what exactly? you completely making up a number. There is no reason they can't monitor their weight afterwards and adjust how much they eat to ensure they maintain their weight and not gain it back. and there is no evidence it is caused directly by the weight loss, or the lowering of calories eaten, it is more likely to be a result of a body functioning with 300-400lbs extra weight for years and building up an ability to perform tasks with all that extra weight in a more efficient way to save energy. could you even stand up with 300lbs of extra weight? nope. How ridiculous that these people essentially nearly kill themselves slowly over years pushing their body to the limit of how fat they can physically get and people like you blame their metabolism being different from the average person afterward entirely on the people who helped these people not die. pathetic.

I used to like to show till I saw they were pushing them harder and harder just to get ratings and people to lose as much weight they could in short time iam sorry but when u have people over 300lbs you can't push them as hard as someone only 50lbs over weight when these people have to lose 150 to 200lbs to get to healthy weight you can't push them as hard they needed to set them up with personal trainer and Bring they back in a yr sorry to lose 200lbs in matter of weeks do more harm than good glad this show no longer on the air

My praises for the biggest loser: it shows hard work pays off, even the biggest guy can lose weight, never giving up helps to make progress. My criticism of it is: they crash diet (dropping from like 3000/4000 calories a day to like 1000/1200 calories so their metabolism also crashes which means the weight will fly back on even at 1500 calories which is almost half a guys recommended intake to maintain about 12/13 stone (165/180 lbs) so people saying metabolic damage is fake then read the meaning which is your metabolism not functioning properly for what ever reason (in the case of ex contestants their bodies adapted too well to a starvation diet that they can no longer eat the recommended amount of calories without gaining weight) and also they work out stupid amounts of time that no normal person in a non athletic job would do (5/6 hour+ a day which is like half a shift at a hospital) so unless your a track athlete/soccer star or anything that requires high endurance 24/7 you can never keep the weight off

What's a "tail gate?"
@jilliansmith7123
6 жыл бұрын
Jane Baker: It's when people drive in to a parking lot and open up their car's tailgate, and inside they have all the fixings for a picnic/feast/food party. They may bring barbecue cookers, or just picnic baskets, or whatever. Usually they bring coolers of beer and pop. They often do it in the parking lots at sports arenas before and/or after a ballgame. Here they had tents set up so technically it's not really a pure tailgate party.

Ediburrito The most publicized benefit of cold-water exposure is the metabolic advantage of activating a unique kind of fat tissue known as brown fat. Unlike the more familiar white fat that collects around our hips and stomachs, brown fat burns through calories at quite a high rate, because it has a very important job: raising body temperature. www.jci.org/articles/view/60433?key=5e3684aee3d55b74adc8

r Negoro Well duh, that's what it does. It makes your metabolism work harder, thus burn more energy. If you stuff your face while doing it, you'll gain weight. That's true for any work out. Basically, people are gaining weight, they just don't notice it because it goes on very slowly. I think by doing stuff like ice baths, fasting now and then, regular workouts, skipping meals, you keep yourself from taking too much calories in. In the long term, you'll benefit because it's easier.
