I once heard someone say, “if you don’t feel nervous when giving a price quote, then you’re underselling yourself.” It might not be true all the time, but it’s good advice.

Oh yes, the contract thing! Good advice. I had a client (18 years ago) who put a family member in charge of a project half way through it, when he went on vacation. It was her first time working (no high school job, nothing). Our timing was super tight. I immediately realized she was going to sink the ship, and there was no one else to work with. After the third day of her MIA (shoe shopping), I gathered all the assets they'd need to give the project to someone else. I invoiced for what work I had done for them, and moved on. It took me a year to get my money, but a collection agency was involved. I really liked your voiced over sequence there Gene 😂.

@alexfahl9381
5 жыл бұрын
I'm going through some of this now. I always panic when someone says I'm charging too much. But at the same time, I need to get my rates up to pay off new equipment. Then when you are trying to up production value by bringing along more crew members for production and planning, it can be hard to translate how it will benefit the end product to the client. It's a lot to take on and can be a tough ballance. Thanks for the video Potato😊

I'd say a good way to progress as a freelancer/company is have a multi-choices offer. I got a first "cheap" one with dslrs + small lighting kit. Then i got a better one and a "pro" one with a team, a cine cam etc. Depending on the client i see which to suggest and explain the differences in the final quality. This way you still have work with low budget clients and can try to push on better quality to progress.
