This week we recycled our 12+ yo microwave & toaster, both stopped working & we're not replacing either. So at the Clean Earth recycling center my husband was astonished to see all the nearly new, still working electronics, appliances, laptops, etc. He was upset about this and we talked about that at least it all was being responsibly recycled & you pay a fee for it to make it easy & viable for people & businesses. We don't upgrade our stuff, just use it, fix it or get it repaired until it's only good for recycling lol. This year we're going to one vehicle (from 2) since our 2007 minivan isn't safe anymore. It's hardly a sacrifice & we're actually looking forward to one less worry in our life. Thanks for helping me feel better about doing what we can!

Ecoanxiety is real and hard. I think with having a baby is even harder sometimes. And I remember talking about it with you and your answer is still with me. I think looking at the bigger picture and understand what you can actually do and what you can't because of the season of life etc is very helpful. Also assessing the time consuming aspects vs benefits of that single action ex. changing gas/electricity rovider once is very less time consuming and probably more impactful than eliminating plastic packaging for us. Thank you for your video!

An excellent video! We are often taken in by big business advertising about being 'ecologically smart' but it eventually fills us with the same self disgust the way the fashion industry gives us such self loathing about our looks and clothing choices. They are selling a product and use our emotions to take our money. Doing your best each day and learning what is real and practical is always going to be right for you and your family. Thank you for sharing! :)

Hi! Loved your video. One mistake I tend to make is to confuse being minimal/zero waste with "self-hatred". Do I not purchase something because I want to be more conscious or do I think I don't deserve "nice" things? I know that loving oneself isn't about what I consume, but I tend to deprive myself under the cover of sustainability...

My biggest mistake is striving for perfection, or even just assuming there IS a perfection to strive for! Talk about setting oneself up for failure! Nothing and no one is perfect, or can hope you achieve perfection in the context of the imperfect systems and societies we have.

Yes!! It's such a tough one to break though, especially when we see so many seemingly "perfect" people and brands selling themselves as "perfect" and THE solution.

Great video! So true about data...there are so many stats floating around that are either outright fabricated or miss the bigger context. I'd say my biggest mistake is stressing about the small, ultimately inconsequential stuff and not knowing how to take proper action on the bigger picture.

My biggest mistake is being consumed in my personal impact, obsessing over it. Using it as an excuse to let my car sit to rot over the past year. Choosing to not delve into the horrors of corporate impact for fear of what I'd find (and I found it...)

There is no climate justice without Indigenous justice, so a thing we could all do is learn more about how to support Indigenous peoples in their struggle for land back and opposing new pipelines. There also won't be major change until we live in a capitalist society where only profit matters with no regards to the well-being of people and the exploitation of the planet.

The biggest challenge is to make it sexy not to earn too much money! If you go above 100k anual gross earnings for a family (in Euros) you get into serious trouble, as it becomes impossible to deal with the money coming in every month. It wants to be spend, and spending it well becomes tough as balls: you see every one above doing things like living in twice the house they need, buying new Teslas, doing an anual Asia trips with the kids even though Paris is the best city in the world you can go on a 6 hour bus trip for 25 bucks. If you proudly say you only earn 100k and thats a choice, people look weird upon you. But it means me and my husband work 5 days in total , so there is plenty of time to invest in other things, like learning new stuff, and there is so much quality locations for holidays even within bicycle distance, it is amazing. An off-season cycle trip to a Belgian city with some stop overs in the green in between delivers an absolutely top class holiday.

I use the fairphone before the fairphone, a 10 year old Windows Lumia Phone I bought second hand for 50€. Biggest benefit is that almost no apps work. Never OS updates. Best mobile OS, nice clutter free and distraction free experience. It has a camera that matches the 15 pro max, 2560x1440 OLED screen and USB-C fast charging, also very up-to-date, it scored a 9 on repairability on iFixit, it does mail, text, calling, navigation, 2FA (most important app nowadays), and I have a narrow group of people with modern texting over Telegram, which is still updated as the source code is open.
