This morning on the Toucher & Hardy radio program, Fred, Wallach, and Hardy broke down the Patriots' surprising 16-10 win over the Bengals. Heading into Week 1, New England was the biggest underdog in the league (+7.5), but they pulled off the upset. Fred mentioned that for the first time in a while, he wasn't rooting against the Patriots, especially since Cincinnati, a supposed AFC contender, didn’t look like a threat. Ja'Marr Chase had a quiet game, and the Bengals dealt with issues like having 12 men on the field at one point.
Wallach highlighted the Patriots' defense, with younger guys like Christian Gonzalez and Keion White stepping up, especially in Judon’s absence. While they admitted the Patriots' offense-focused on ball control and limiting turnovers-might not be a recipe for long-term success, it was a welcome change from last season’s struggles. They also pointed out that with Seattle looking shaky, there’s a decent chance the Pats could start 2-0.
