The Vibramate eliminates the need to drill holes, but it's still likely to damage the nitro finish if it's on the guitar for a length of time.

The Gibson ES125 was a beautiful guitar. I love the deep Florentine cut and the the burst finish. Such a wonderful guitar and the Bigsby complements the Gibson so well. Thanks for sharing I have a Bigsby B70 and I wanted to know the difference so this was great. Hope you have a great day and awesome video.

I have an Epiphone Riviera that came with the B700. Totally worthless if you care about silly things like tuning stability. First thing I tried was a roller bridge. Barely better, but still not playable. So, I heard about the Brick's Biggsfix mod and thought I would give it a whirl. Voila! Like the name says, it fixed it. Totally stays in tune now. I love my Riviera now. : )

No problem Nick! I don't know why, but it looks like his website is down. :( It's bricksbiggsfix.com The mod basically replaces that hideous plastic bearing roller with either a sealed roller bearing equipped roller, or the same sealed bearing roller with a slight vertical extension to reduce the break angle, which can be kinda extreme on some guitars. His youtube channel is BricksJamRoom. His latest video lists his e-mail address so, maybe you can contact him if your interested in trying one of these out. They're like $30, but totally worth it to me anyway. Hope this helps!

Thanks for this info. I was just looking into a Bigsby for my Parts Paul. Checked eBay and found B7's and B70's were priced as if there was no difference, mostly between $150 - $200 for either. I bought the B7, of course.

Just FYI, the B7 doesn't use roller bearings in the tension bar, it uses bronze bushings. Roller bearings are available in the aftermarket though.

Hi Nick, very educational learned a lot about Bigsbys. Would a Vibromate fit an Epiphone Les Paul, or are the stop bar spacings different?
@NegdoshaManido

Hey Chris, I just mounted a B7 to my Epi Les Paul standard using the Vibramate. No problem at all! Have at it, you'll love it! I would suggest getting a roller bridge as well. Les Pauls have enough trouble with tuning stability already. I put a roller bridge on my Les Paul studio that does not have a Bigsby to help the tuning issues and reduce string breakage. With a Bigsby, it's pretty much a must have. Good luck!

One more thing is you may want to get a V block. Sometimes the Bigsby hangs too far off the tail. This keeps everything nice and tight.

There are three points of friction for each string: the nut, the bridge and the rolling tension bar. The tension of all six strings together on one side and the bigsby spring on the other side create a very strong force on the rolling bar to return to its original equilibrium point. I would say it is next to impossible for this moving part to stop your guitar from going back to its original tuning. The bridge and the nut are a different story: (much) more friction, and each string has to pull itself back to its original equilibrium point ;) Is the difference in tuning stability between a B7 and a B70 something that you have objectively tested ? Or is it may be more of an intuitive and possibly a bit wishfull expectation given price difference ? ;)

nice job - who knew! I now know that when I put a Bigsby on my 2000's SG I unnecessarily screwed it into the top, had no idea there was a plate I could have used (was a B5, but I assume those would have a vibromate plate too?) thanks, nice vid.

Hi Nick great bigsby info. Any advice on keeping the bigsby arms from going slack and swinging. My Gretsch 5420 arm always stays put I’m assuming it’s Chinese or Korean but I’ve a couple of cheap eBay ones and the arm works loose and it’s awkward to tighten again.

Very instructive video. I was almost buying one B70 to put into my LP. I think I´ll quit. I would hate having to deal with tuning issues and I don´t think roller bridges looks nice in a classic point of view.

Nick, on your ES 125TDC, could you have used a B6?
@NickintheStates
4 жыл бұрын
Yes and indeed many people use a B6 or more commonly a B3. The best combination is the B3 hint with a B6. Linger Bigsby for the big guitar but the B6 hinge goes too deep for the slimline body.

From Leo: I have had good luck with the Bigsby systems. They should all be set up with a good roller bridge, which eliminates 95% of tuning issues. That was a side benefit of the old Gretsch Space Control bridges. The chinese units, like what comes on entry level Gretsch Streamliners, do not have the quality of the good ones. The roller to frame fit is not too good, out of 16 or 18, I have seen none that did not need work. If the end of the roller rubs the frame, it causes problems. Disassemble and touch up the areas with a small file and make about .010" of end clearance. Don't over do it, more slack is not better. A drip of fine PTFE oil on the bushings keep them free on the spindles. There are a variety of springs available to tune both the handle height and the feel. Used as they were designed, once set up and using a a roller bridge, they are very tuning stable.

There was a time when I put Bigsby's on ALL my guitars... Now, I just stick with 5 or 6 Les Paul's and a lone 335. I found that a roller bridge to really smooth everything out.

Wanna hear something funny? I'm Canadian, and I just ordered an unbranded one on Amazon last night for $43 CAD; Other dealers seemed to be offering the same Vibrato for around $60-ish. From what I can tell they are exactly that B700 model you demoed and said you can get for $35, which makes perfect sense with the USD - CAD conversion. Then I looked up *Bigsby* B700. And the music stores here in Canada seem to be selling those for $275 to $320 CAD. That's a crazy price jump for one with the Bigsby sticker on it. And B7s? ...$399... So maybe that'll make you feel a bit better about having to pay $150 USD for the REAL B7s down there, haha.

Bigsby tremolo is the worst experience I ever had on a tremolo system. I don't recommend this tremolo unless a roller bridge is used. Most of the companies put this system with a regular tuneomatic bridge and there the fun starts. Never get your guitar in tune again. Do yourself a favor and don't try this lame design.

Or prevent that problem by installing a roller bridge lol
