I’m 38 years old and have always enjoyed hunting. I was never really any good at scouting or hunting as a teenage; naive and no mentor. In my 20s I served in the NAVY and was busy with college. I didn’t hunt as much as I would have liked, and I got some doe down. The past 3-4 years I have been putting a lot of time in and watching KZitem for guidance and talking to more avid hunters. Now I have 4 bucks down and plenty of doe. Bucks are no records, but all memorable hunts! Anyways today I actually found my first known buck beds. Two of them about 50-75 yards from each other on state land in NY. They were both under a small group of trees that were rubbed on pretty good. They were backed up to water, a swamp area and looking out into hardwoods so they can see things coming from a decent distance. It was good to find the beds. I was looking for some sheds, no luck. Oh, I wanted to mention too that here in NY I have a picture of a buck I am targeting this year, and he still has his antlers as of March 7th. It’s been a really mild winter here. Deer still have a lot of weight and look healthy. In the past about this time of year some deer begin to show ribs and hip bones!

I know this is an old video, but a great one none the less. How does sitting in the bucks beds effect them using that bed in the future? Will your scent being in their bed cause them to not use that bed? By the way, your shirt in the first bed has seen some action! lol

Every time you enter a bucks bedroom it makes an impact. But, people looking for sheds, coyotes, mushroom hunters. dogs, etc. visit these spots every now and then too... I do most of my bed scouting in winter and spring which is usually a time im looking at fall beds and in winter they are bedding elsewhere. In other words, get in there get your intel then dont go in there again.

Dan, I have the same situation except behind is another steep slope that is about 400yds and stops at the peak of the mountain. There’s no way to get in from above and from below seems nearly impossible. How would you access it?

I also have a similar situation on a parcel of public in PA I am planning to target early season. My plan is to access my stand location late afternoon/early evening when the thermals start to drop down the hill, and be very quiet, and just out of sight of the bench higher up where his bed is. Hopefully the buck comes down the hill to drink water at the creek bottom in the evening. This plan is based off what I’ve learned from Dan’s videos about thermals. Good luck!

Does you leaving human scent in a buck bed disturb the buck?
@thehuntingbeast
4 жыл бұрын
Yes... Usually the beds go cold for a month or so after scouting. I also think there is some amount of damage that could be long lasting in terms of trusting the spot, however, most beds occasionally get some degree of disturb from either shed hunters, coyotes, or wolves, etc. Obviously the less disturbance the better, but you need the intel, so there is a meet in the middle type answer... I scout them after hunting season and give them plenty of time to forget.

Hi, I just purchased 3 of your DVD's. I am in no way affiliated with Dan Infalt. I actually just started to study his material a month ago. This comment is for everyone else who wants to become a better hunter. The DVD's were well worth it! The information I gained while watching his videos has already made hunting well worth the little cost. Sure, he has many videos uploaded here on KZitem. However, they are just scratching the surface as to what the videos have. I am looking forward to his future products. Ty Adam

learning some good stuff from you! question- since you obviously filmed this during the day, did you bump him out of the bed? if so, and especially since you stood in it how long should you wait before you hunt it? is this in season or preseason scouting? thanks you vids are awesome.

+Killemquietly I'm quite sure his answer will be this is post-season scouting and they don't plan on hunting this this season.
