Beejamrit, Jivamrit, Mulching, Whapasa, Plant Protection, and Universal Principles of Natural Farming are key components of sustainable agriculture practices. Beejamrit, in particular, is an ancient technique used to safeguard the health of seeds, seedlings, or planting materials by protecting their young roots from fungal infections. This method involves the creation of a fermented microbial solution rich in beneficial microbes, which is then applied as a treatment to seeds. The expectation is that these beneficial microbes will colonize the roots and leaves of germinating seeds, promoting the healthy growth of plants.
To prepare Beejamrit, you'll need 5 kg of cow dung, 5 liters of cow urine, 50 grams of lime, 1 kg of bund soil, and 20 liters of water for every 100 kg of seeds. The preparation process involves several steps:
1. Hang 5 kg of cow dung in a cloth in 20 liters of water for up to 12 hours.
2. In a separate container, mix 50 grams of lime with 1 liter of water and let it sit overnight.
3. The next morning, squeeze the cow dung bundle in the water three times to ensure thorough mixing.
4. Add approximately 1 kg of soil to the water solution and stir well.
5. Incorporate 5 liters of desi cow urine and the lime-water mixture, stirring thoroughly.
To use Beejamrit as a seed treatment, apply it to the seeds of any crop. Coat the seeds by mixing them by hand, allow them to dry, and then use them for sowing. For leguminous seeds with thin seed coats, a quick dip and drying process is sufficient.
